Lin Menghan glanced over but did not stop. She saw an elderly woman fiddling with something by the laundry sink and an old man chopping wood in the yard. 0

Xu Nancheng, however, paused and called out to Lin Menghan, who was still running ahead. "Lin Menghan! Why are you still running? We’ve arrived!" 0

Hearing this, she hurriedly stopped and walked slowly towards Xu Nancheng. "First, you better not look around randomly anymore. Otherwise, I’ll tell Uncle and Auntie that you’re bullying me!" 0

"I promise," Lin Menghan said, "if you look again, I’ll let you handle it." After thinking for a moment, he raised his hand and extended four fingers in assurance. 0

"Hey, Xu Nancheng! You’re here so early! Come in and sit down!" The old man heard the commotion and smiled warmly. "This must be Miss Lin!" 0

"Old lady, are you still busy? Xu Nancheng and Miss Lin have arrived!" Xu Mingzhong said as he welcomed them into the yard. 0

Woof! Woof! A black dog in the yard barked continuously, as if warning the newcomers not to approach its territory. 0

"Hey! Stop it! It’s Xu Nancheng bringing someone back," Xu Mingzhong shouted at the dog. The black dog slowly closed its mouth and obediently lay down. 0

"This is Grandpa, and that’s Grandma," Xu Wenzhao said first towards the grandfather and then towards the grandmother. 0

As the intermediary, Xu Nancheng naturally took on the role of introducing them. 0

"Hello, Grandpa! Hello, Grandma!" Lin Menghan politely bowed deeply to the two elders. 0

"Good, good! What a nice child!" The old man looked at Lin Menghan, noting her pleasant appearance and graceful demeanor. He felt pleased as he thought to himself that this granddaughter-in-law was truly remarkable. 0

Xu Mingzhong, who had been worried about Xu Wenzhao causing trouble in the city, finally felt reassured. 0

"Come on in! It’s so hot outside; let’s go inside where there’s air conditioning!" Seeing how far they had walked, both were drenched in sweat with beads of perspiration on their faces. Xia Mei quickly ushered them into the bedroom. 0

The living room at Xu Mingzhong's home did not have air conditioning like those in the city; only the bedrooms did. Although there was air conditioning in Xu Nancheng's room, it had accumulated dust and needed cleaning before it could be used. 0

"Miss Lin, please forgive me! Grandma's house isn’t like those in the city." She turned on the air conditioning and handed them a few tissues to wipe their sweat. 0

Lin Menghan wiped her sweat with a piece of paper. 0

"Grandpa, Grandma, there's no need to be so polite! I'm just fine!" Lin Menghan said, exuding a sense of warmth and charm. 0

"Alright, alright! You and Xu Nancheng just take a good rest! We'll handle the cooking!" The elderly couple smiled brightly, as if they had found their long-lost granddaughter. 0

"Xu Nancheng, everything is in its place. Just take what you need and take good care of Lin Menghan!" They said as they prepared to leave. 0

"Grandpa, Grandma, do you want me to help?" Lin Menghan quickly stopped them, nudging Xu Nancheng with her elbow. 0

She really wanted to do it herself; after all, it wouldn’t be right to let the elders do all the work while she played around. 0

"Lin Menghan, there's no need to be so polite. You two enjoy yourselves; leave the cooking to us!" 0

Xu Nancheng, who had been nudged, took a moment before walking over. "Grandpa, Grandma, Lin Menghan and I are fine! You two are getting older; you should rest more!" 0

His voice was not loud, but it was reasonable and won the hearts of the other three. 0

"Come on, Lin Menghan." 0

He said this while leading Lin Menghan outside. 0

The elderly couple didn’t insist; after all, it was the children's kind intentions that should not be disappointed. 0

"Hey, old man, these two kids are quite sensible," Grandma said with a smile. 0

"Yes, Xu Nancheng has grown up, and Miss Lin has a good heart," Grandpa agreed. 0

Both grandparents felt content watching their grandchildren grow up little by little, becoming more understanding and starting families of their own. They felt fulfilled. 0

As the two elders reminisced in their room, they felt happiest at that moment. 0

Their grandson had grown up! And the newly arrived girl was so considerate! 0

The Old Lin Family finally had successors! 0

In their lifetime, they felt it was all worth it! 0

"Lin Menghan, can you clean the fish over there? I'll help Grandpa chop wood," Xu Nancheng said as he rolled up his sleeves and prepared to work. 0

"Sure thing, Nancheng!" Lin Menghan replied obediently before running off to clean the fish. 0

Xu Nancheng picked up the chisel and placed it in the crack of the wood, striking it down with a hammer. With a series of crisp sounds, the wood split open a seam. He swung the hammer several more times, and a large piece of firewood finally broke into two halves. 0

Next, he continued to chop the wood into smaller pieces until they were small enough to burn well in the fire. During the chopping process, Xu Nancheng paused every few strikes to wipe the sweat from his brow with a towel. Though he felt somewhat tired, he persevered. 0

Finally, he moved the chopped wood to the stove, stacking it neatly in preparation for cooking and heating later on. 0

Lin Menghan tied her apron, her graceful figure bustling about in the kitchen like a beautiful painting. She gently placed the freshly filleted fish that Xia Mei had just prepared into a bowl, then added clear water, carefully rinsing it several times until the water became cool and transparent. 0
