The two of them only remembered after receiving the benefits, "Wait! Why does it have to be Nancheng? I'm really worried about the negative impact." 0

Lin Menghan didn’t respond directly; she simply said that it would definitely benefit him and that they should keep an eye on things. Without much thought, the two of them agreed. 0

To be honest, seeing a girl made it hard for them to think straight. 0

Once home, Lin Menghan finally let out a sigh of relief. Breathing heavily, she turned to Xu Nancheng and said, "Nancheng, I have something to do. If you need me, just knock on the door." With that, she hurried into her room and closed the door behind her. 0

Xu Nancheng was left momentarily stunned by this sudden change. He sat there with his mouth slightly open, as if he wanted to ask something, but before he could speak, he could only watch Lin Menghan walk into her room. 0

He tilted his head in confusion but didn’t say anything further. 0

After entering her room, Lin Menghan quickly took out a notebook from her bag and sat at her desk, diligently writing. 0

Meanwhile, in the living room, Xu Nancheng felt a bit bored. He sat at the table and hesitated for a moment before deciding to start working on some practice problems. 0

Time passed quietly as Xu Nancheng immersed himself in his studies. Before he knew it, a considerable amount of time had gone by. When he began to feel a bit tired, he put down his pen, gently rubbed his wrist, and stretched his body. 0

Then he picked up his phone to check the time and realized it was already 10:13 AM. 0

It was almost lunchtime. He stood up and was about to head towards the door as usual when he suddenly remembered that there was still a busy girl in her room. 0

So he turned around and walked to her door, gently knocking while calling out, "Lin Menghan, let’s go out for lunch!" 0

"Coming!" A girl rushed out as the door creaked open. 0

With red-rimmed eyes, she walked out while pretending to sound cheerful. "What are we having for lunch?" 0

"Let’s eat outside," Xu Nancheng said after hesitating for a moment. 0

"Why?" Lin Menghan kept her head slightly down, not allowing Xu Nancheng to see her eyes. 0

"I can’t cook," he replied awkwardly with a forced smile, stammering out a few words while scratching his head. 0

He felt that for some reason, in front of this girl, he didn’t want to reveal his shortcomings. Yet he had no such concerns in front of others. It just felt like she would look down on him and then stop talking to him altogether. 0

"Huh?" She suddenly became interested. "No way! There are actually people who can’t cook?" 0

"You're not even using a wood stove? How can you not know that?" She burst into laughter, her teasing devoid of malice. 0

Xu Nancheng dared not look at her, turning his head slightly to steal a glance at Lin Menghan. 0

Wait a minute! What’s up with her eyes? Have you been crying? Her eyelids were all red! 0

His initial worry dissipated, leaving only concern. "Lin Menghan!" Xu Nancheng's tone shifted as he straightened his gaze, fixing it on her with an air of seriousness. 0

Is he about to take on the role of an older brother? 0

Lin Menghan immediately fell silent. She had only intended to playfully tease Xu Nancheng, not to genuinely upset him! 0

"Nancheng, I’m sorry! Please don’t be mad!" 0

"Huh? Why would I be angry with you? But why are you crying?" His voice carried a hint of worry as he reached into his bag for a tissue, gently wiping away the tears at the corners of her eyes. 0

Hearing that it was just this made Lin Menghan breathe a sigh of relief, and she didn’t respond. Instead, she leaned in closer, allowing Xu Nancheng to wipe her face. 0

"I'm writing a novel!" she said with a smile, feeling moved by her own writing. 0

"Can I take a look?" Xu Nancheng asked eagerly. "It must be really good!" 0

Seeing the longing in his eyes, Lin Menghan turned and hopped inside to grab her notebook, feeling like a child who had just received praise. "Great! I have my first reader!" 0

Xu Nancheng picked up the notebook and gently caressed its cover, as if he could feel the stories and emotions contained within. He slowly sat down, carefully flipping through the pages and beginning to read this short novel with only two chapters. 0

As someone who had never spoken much with girls before, Xu Nancheng often filled his emotional void by reading romance novels. However, as he read this particular story, he found the content somewhat clichéd yet deeply moving. 0

As he delved deeper into the narrative, Xu Nancheng couldn’t help but be touched by the struggles of the female protagonist, Xu Han. Tears blurred his vision as he read on. 0

After finishing the story, he quietly wiped away the tears from his eyes and looked up to find Lin Menghan beside him. 0

He recalled his past self, always yearning to meet someone like Xu Han—a girl who had faced hardships—so that he could offer her endless care and love. But now, he suddenly felt that this desire was no longer necessary because he already had Lin Menghan before him. 0

Unbeknownst to him, Xu Nancheng realized that he was increasingly focused on Lin Menghan. He cared about her daily life, her joys and sorrows, every little action and expression—he cared about everything concerning her. 0

Although Lin Menghan lived in his house and his father treated her like a biological daughter, her household registration was not with them. Naturally, she could become her own girl! 0

Xu Nancheng took a deep breath, his gaze firmly fixed on Lin Menghan. Perhaps he should express his true feelings to her, tell her how he felt about her. He knew that this would require time and courage. At that moment, he simply wanted to quietly guard her side, waiting for the right opportunity to come. 0

Of course, he only had this thought; as for whether he liked Lin Menghan or not, he wasn't quite sure yet. He just vaguely felt that this feeling should be what liking someone was. 0

"Nancheng, how do you think I wrote?" Lin Menghan asked from beside him, propping her chin on her hands as she looked at Xu Nancheng. 0

Noticing that Xu Nancheng's gaze was becoming increasingly shy, her face, which already had a hint of bashfulness, turned even redder. 0

"You wrote really well!" Xu Nancheng praised sincerely. 0

"Really?" Lin Menghan's eyes sparkled with excitement. 0

"Yes! I feel like if you post it online, it will definitely be a hit!" Xu Nancheng thought about how she didn't want to spend her uncle and aunt's money. If she posted it online and could earn some extra cash, wouldn't that be great? 0

"No! You're just looking at my writing through rose-colored glasses. If the author were someone you didn't know, you wouldn't feel anything at all!" She shook her head, outright rejecting Xu Nancheng's suggestion. 0

In fact, there was another factor: while she appeared quite confident, she was actually quite shy. 0
