The three turned to the source of the voice and saw Lin Menghan looking at a large platter of barbecue, her eyes revealing a hint of helplessness. It turned out that even though the barbecue was in a box, it still dripped oil, and she didn’t want to get her clothes dirty because oil stains were really hard to clean and looked terrible.
Upon hearing Lin Menghan's call, the three immediately sprang into action. Among them, Xu Nancheng reacted the fastest. "Lin Menghan, let me handle it!" At that moment, Chen Yi realized he should probably do something too. So he quickly caught up, trying to help carry some of the remaining barbecue. However, when he arrived, he found that all the barbecue had already been moved onto the table by Xu Nancheng and Xu Dong. He could only stand awkwardly to the side, twitching his lips in frustration, unsure of what to do next.
Chen Yi felt somewhat dissatisfied, thinking he hadn’t had the chance to showcase his abilities. He thought to himself: You two should let me have a turn to shine! After all, he also wanted to be part of this activity and demonstrate his value.
Just then, as Chen Yi was complaining internally, Xu Dong suddenly noticed him about to put a piece of barbecue in his mouth. He rushed over and snatched the barbecue from Chen Yi's hand. "If you're just going to stand there while I help you out, then don’t eat!"
Chen Yi wasn’t having any of it and replied sternly, "Dongzi! Are you out of your mind?"
"Come on! You two just eat," Lin Menghan said as she pressed down on their shoulders and handed them both pieces of barbecue.
Xu Nancheng watched this scene unfold before him and then glanced around at the empty space beside him.
He pressed his lips together, and without Lin Menghan around, a wave of sourness surged in his heart.
What was going on? He felt restless inside! He glanced at the few people over there, feeling an indescribable annoyance but said nothing, continuing to eat by himself.
That little expression of jealousy had long been noticed by Lin Menghan. Inside, she couldn’t help but smile.
Hehe! Does Nancheng like me too?
She had invited him out for a meal, which was fine, but it seemed odd that Lin Menghan and Xu Nancheng were always stuck together. Was this really just a meal with friends, or was it more like serving dog food? This needed to be considered carefully.
Lin Menghan understood this logic, so she didn’t keep staring at Xu Nancheng. Helping him with a few skewers of barbecue, since they were friends, what was the big deal? It seemed perfectly normal.
However, Xu Nancheng didn’t see it that way. Watching the scene before him, one thought dominated his mind: Lin Menghan was ignoring him—did that mean she didn’t want him anymore?
As time passed, seeing Xu Nancheng’s pitiful expression made Lin Menghan’s heart ache slightly. She picked up a few skewers of barbecue and walked over to him, gently placing them in front of his mouth while softly saying, “Here! Nancheng!”
Xu Nancheng looked up, his gaze landing on Lin Menghan’s beautiful face, and the gloom in his heart dissipated instantly. The clouded expression on his face finally broke into a brilliant smile, as if the clouds had parted to reveal the sun.
However, instead of taking the skewer from Lin Menghan’s hand, he unexpectedly bit into it. He savored the delicious barbecue, feeling a sense of satisfaction and happiness fill him.
“Wow!” Xu Nancheng couldn’t help but exclaim. He swore this was the best barbecue he had ever tasted.
Even though there were many skewers in front of him, they paled in comparison to what Lin Menghan had given him. He then took another skewer she offered from behind her and intentionally brushed against her small hand. Each touch brought him immense joy, as if electricity coursed through his body, leaving him entranced.
It felt so good to touch her! Xu Nancheng sighed inwardly. This feeling made him even more infatuated with Lin Menghan.
Just then…
“Oh! Isn’t this our Nancheng?”
“Who is this? Our Nancheng has a girlfriend?”
“You think you deserve a girlfriend? Come look everyone! Nancheng is dating now!”
A sarcastic remark reached Xu Nancheng's ears. Lin Menghan suddenly lifted her head and saw a tall man standing not far away, around six feet tall. His round face was framed by a pair of transparent glasses, and his eyes held an air of arrogance.
At that moment, he stood there, waving his hands, his mouth moving rapidly as he spoke loudly about something. Lin Menghan did not recognize this man, so she remained silent, glaring at him with eyes full of hatred.
She pondered who this man was and why he had suddenly appeared here to say such malicious things to Nancheng. The words she had just heard made her teeth clench tightly, producing a series of clicking sounds.
Beside her, Xu Nancheng silently lowered his head, saying nothing, his expression unreadable.
"Dai Yan, what the hell do you mean?" Xu Dong exclaimed, barely containing his anger.
Bang! The table nearly tipped over from the force of his fist. "What are you pretending for? You all just pity him and stick with him! What kind of brotherhood is this?" Dai Yan saw Xu Dong becoming increasingly agitated and acted even more recklessly.
Xu Dong felt something tugging at his clothes just as he was about to charge forward. Turning around, he saw it was Xu Nancheng.
With his head down, Xu Nancheng shook his head softly. "Forget it, forget it," he murmured quietly.
"Nancheng! What are you doing? Are you afraid of him?" Xu Dong looked at Xu Nancheng's weakness and exploded in fury.
