"What’s wrong, Nancheng?" Lin Menghan was genuinely concerned for Xu Nancheng. 0

"I just feel like I could lose you at any moment. It’s as if every time I close my eyes and open them again, you won’t care about me anymore." 0

He had an immense trust in Lin Menghan; otherwise, he wouldn’t share these thoughts with her. It was precisely this trust that made him fear her departure. 0

As he spoke, a wave of bitterness washed over him, and tears began to well up in his eyes, threatening to spill over. 0

Lin Menghan watched this unfold, her heart aching for him. She shook her head helplessly; it was truly difficult to deal with him sometimes. 0

Looking around, she noticed that they were alone. Xu Wenzhao and the others had initially planned to stay longer, but seeing the two of them getting along eased their worries. They decided to leave for the night since they still had work to do the next day. 0

She stood up slightly and leaned closer, gently cupping Xu Nancheng's cheek with her hand. 0

Xu Nancheng felt warmth spread across his face as it flushed a deeper shade of red. 0

Lin Menghan applied a little more pressure, and he instinctively leaned into her touch, his head resting perfectly on her lap. 0

At that moment, she softly ran her fingers through his hair. 0

Lin Menghan smiled tenderly, though there was a hint of pain in her heart. 0

The soft strands brushed against Xu Nancheng's cheek, creating a gentle sensation that felt soothing. 0

The faint fragrance enveloped him, making it hard for Xu Nancheng to resist its allure. 0

He simply stared blankly at Lin Menghan, his mind a complete void. 0

What was she doing? It felt so embarrassing! 0

But it also felt incredibly comforting! 0

Of course, it felt wonderful! 0

Lin Menghan's thigh was soft and smooth, almost bouncy. 0

Lying on it was undeniably the most comfortable experience he could imagine! 0

Beyond that, he felt an unprecedented sense of safety and belonging—as if she would always be by his side and would never leave him. 0

"Lin Menghan," Xu Nancheng called out to her, wanting to say something but unsure of what to express. 0

She placed a finger against her rosy lips and made a shushing gesture towards him. "Nancheng! You don’t need to say anything; I won’t leave you!" 0

The voice was soft, gentle, yet deafening. 0

"Lin Menghan, you are truly wonderful," he said sincerely, gazing into her eyes. 0

But why? I can’t do anything! 0

"Because I love you!" 0

The last three words remained unspoken; instead, she formed them with her lips towards Xu Nancheng, enunciating each word carefully. 0

However, Xu Nancheng didn’t understand; he simply gazed quietly at the girl’s cheek for a long time before saying, "Lin Menghan, promise me you will never leave me." 0

He actually wanted to say, "Lin Menghan, I like you! Will you be my girlfriend?" But he knew that even if she agreed, he couldn’t give her anything— not even the most basic sense of security. 0

It was just the way he was. 0

She leaned closer to Xu Nancheng's ear and said, "Okay! I promise you! I will never leave you!" 0

"Let’s make a pinky promise!" Lin Menghan extended her pinky towards Xu Nancheng. 0

Xu Nancheng mirrored her gesture. 0

Their pinkies slowly intertwined as they made their vow: "Pinky promise, we’ll never change for a hundred years!" 0

It was childish, but for many, it was the best form of psychological comfort. 0

Perhaps he was too tired today; under Lin Menghan’s gentle touch, his eyelids gradually drooped and his breathing steadied until he fell asleep. 0

Watching the boy sleep peacefully before her, she smiled from the heart. 0

Lin Menghan leaned closer to Xu Nancheng’s face until there was barely a sheet of paper between them, her warm breath softly brushing against his cheek. 0

She slowly parted her lips because it was you, Nancheng, who helped me out of my predicament; also because I like you! 0

As she spoke, two lines of tears quietly slid down Lin Menghan's cheeks. 0

She leaned in again and pressed a kiss on Xu Nancheng's lips. 0

This kiss was her first kiss and his as well. 0

She truly wanted to tell Xu Nancheng that she liked him, but she didn’t dare to do so— not out of fear, but because she felt shy! 0

Because of this, the two of them might share a deep connection, yet still miss each other completely. 0

Lin Menghan lifted her head and picked up one side of the blanket, gently covering Xu Nancheng's belly to prevent him from catching a cold during the night. She then leaned back against the sofa, closed her eyes, and fell asleep. 0

Meanwhile, Chen Yi and Xu Dong did not head home directly after they left. They found a spot by the roadside to sit down and even bought two bottles of beer to enjoy. 0

The bottles were neatly arranged beside them as they casually sat on the chairs. 0

"Ah! This feels so good!" Chen Yi exclaimed, eagerly grabbing a bottle of beer and taking a big gulp, then satisfiedly licking his lips. He turned to Xu Dong and noticed that his friend was still quietly sitting there, not touching his drink. So, Chen Yi gently patted him on the shoulder and reassured him, "Alright, alright! Don't think about it anymore; Nancheng was just speaking out of anger earlier." 0

"But he really went too far! How could he treat us like that?" Xu Dong's anger flared up again as he recalled what had happened before. 0

"Come on! You know how he is. As brothers, we should be more forgiving; that's how relationships last," Chen Yi patiently continued to persuade him. 0

"But did he really consider us brothers when he said those things?" Xu Dong expressed his deep dissatisfaction with a frown. 0

"Hey, you can rest assured about that. He definitely sees us as brothers; otherwise, with his personality, he probably wouldn’t even talk to us," Chen Yi replied. 0

Hearing this, Xu Dong felt it made some sense but couldn't help muttering, "What you said is true, but he seemed hesitant to speak, as if there was something more he wanted to say but didn't know how." 0

"Exactly! But we both made mistakes; you shouldn't have acted so impulsively," Chen Yi said as he took another sip of beer. 0

"That's easy for you to say; the damage is done," Xu Dong remarked while staring at the beer in front of him. 0

"You fool! Let's go apologize first thing in the morning!" Chen Yi lightly slapped Xu Dong on the back of his head. 0

"Alright, alright! Sigh... Nancheng really is something," Xu Dong sighed. 0

"Come on! Don’t give me that half-hearted attitude; let’s drink!" Chen Yi said as he picked up a bottle and shook it lightly, signaling Xu Dong to join him. 0

"Okay, let’s do it!" Xu Dong replied. 0

With a clink of their bottles, they both downed their drinks in one go. 0
