That guy is Chen Yi.
"Then you just sit here for now, Sister," he said. "I have some things to take care of." He had his own matters to attend to and didn't need to be with Lin Menghan; if Nancheng saw them together, he might get jealous.
"Okay."
Chen Yi left without disturbing Lin Menghan any further. Lin Zhen came over to help her clean the dust off the table. Chen Yi returned to his seat and continued tidying up when that guy rushed over. "Hey! Chen Yi, that's not fair! How come he's so close to you? It's not what you think. Just wait, there’s going to be something even more explosive later." Chen Yi didn’t keep them in suspense any longer; it was time to set the mood.
The guy fell silent and started messing around on his own.
Finally, Xu Nancheng climbed up with a big load of bags, leaning against the door and panting heavily, nearly unable to stand up straight.
"Ah, Nancheng, are you okay? Don't push yourself too hard!" Lin Menghan exclaimed, seeing Xu Nancheng leaning at the door. She was more worried than ever before.
She hurriedly got up from her seat, ran to the door, unloaded Xu Nancheng's burdens, grabbed a bottle of water from the table, and handed it to him. "Nancheng, drink this. Don’t rush it." Her tone was as caring as if she were looking after her boyfriend.
"Wait, Chen Yi, what’s going on here?" That guy was even more confused and quickly asked Chen Yi.
Hearing the whole conversation, Xu Dong rushed over eagerly. "You don’t get it? He’s...!"
Before he could finish his sentence, Chen Yi covered his mouth.
"Haha, it's a secret!" Chen Yi awkwardly brushed off the matter.
The reason for this was that if they spoke the truth, there was a chance that Xu Nancheng's feelings for Lin Menghan would be exposed. They had promised Xu Nancheng not to reveal that secret.
"Oh, then why can’t I pursue her?" That guy still didn’t understand.
"Do you think our little sister is that easy to chase after?" He puffed out his chest proudly as if he were something special. It was getting more ridiculous by the moment; he couldn’t think of a better explanation and only blamed himself for being so foolish earlier.
"Oh." The guy didn’t buy it, but with three people surrounding Lin Menghan, there really wasn’t much hope left for him. He decided to keep quiet.
With everyone gathered, it was time to introduce the new classmates. Each new student had to go through this essential course.
"Alright, everyone quiet down! Let’s welcome our new classmates to the stage for self-introductions!" Teacher Li said before slowly stepping aside. A thunderous applause erupted from the audience welcoming the newcomers.
Lin Menghan stood up from Xu Nancheng's seat. When the classmates saw her rise, Xu Nancheng was standing right beside her. Before she could even start speaking, whispers began to circulate among the students. What was going on? Xu Nancheng had given up his seat for her!
Wow! Could it be that guy was going to get ahead of everyone else? It seemed so; Chen Yi had just told me something along those lines.
"Quiet! Quiet!" The class monitor's authority was evident at that moment. Though referred to as the class monitor, it was actually Xu Dong. With his physique and presence, few dared to challenge him when he got angry. Coupled with his good grades and upright character, who else could take on the role?
Within seconds, the classroom fell silent again.
Lin Menghan steadied herself and smiled as she introduced herself. "Hello everyone! My name is Lin Menghan, and I look forward to learning together with all of you. Please take care of me!" She bowed deeply, exuding grace and confidence.
Xu Nancheng watched Lin Menghan with a shy smile, his gaze fixed on her without wavering.
Noticing Xu Nancheng's attention, Lin Menghan's face instantly flushed red. She quickly averted her eyes, losing her smile.
Applause erupted from below. "Welcome, new classmate! Welcome!"
The loudest applause came from Shi Mo Mo Wu Wen's Xu Nancheng. His hands were red from clapping so much, and he felt a bit of pain but continued nonetheless.
Behind Xu Nancheng were Chen Yi and Xu Dong, clapping vigorously as well.
This was necessary! They were determined to pamper Lin Menghan to the skies.
With the self-introduction over, it was time to change seats. Based on grades, Xu Nancheng naturally chose first.
Feeling a bit shy, he returned to his original seat. The teacher had eliminated the seating arrangement that allowed for chatting between desk partners to prevent distractions that affected grades. Now, all seats were in single rows. Xu Nancheng chose the first row in the second column near the front door.
This seat was not typically chosen by others; after all, who would want to make mischief right under the teacher's nose? But Xu Nancheng loved learning and opted for this position because it offered a great view—just like this time.
As Xu Nancheng entered the classroom, more and more students followed, gradually filling up the seats. The last available spot was right next to Xu Nancheng, reserved for the final newcomer, Shen Yaoqi. She didn’t choose this position; it was forced upon her.
However, Lin Menghan found herself without a seat! Being a new transfer student, it was understandable that there were no available spots for her.
"Teacher Li, where should I sit?" Lin Menghan looked around at the lack of empty seats, feeling troubled.
Li Jianguo glanced at Lin Menghan and then at the students below. He had quite a few things on his plate and rarely dealt with class logistics, so he had forgotten about the desk and chair situation.
"Can anyone help our new classmate move a desk and chair?" Li Jianguo asked for the students' opinions.
In response, several voices chimed in.
"I will!"
"Teacher! I will!"
