Xu Nancheng looked at Lin Menghan and said, "Let's go, Lin Menghan! Be careful." A doting smile appeared on his face because he knew he had only this one girl to cherish, even though he wasn't quite sure how to take care of her. 0

Lin Menghan nodded, her small hand tightly held by Xu Nancheng as she obediently followed him, feeling a sense of safety in her heart. As a girl, she always hoped to experience the feeling of being protected by the boy she liked. 0

Finally arriving at the cafeteria, they found that most of the seats were already taken, leaving only a few empty spots. Xu Nancheng surveyed the surroundings and, based on past experience, decided that the best approach was for one person to secure a seat while the others went to get food. 0

He gently said to Lin Menghan, "You stay here and watch the spot while I go get your food." He wanted to pursue her but didn't know how to express his feelings towards a girl, so he could only show his goodwill through actions. 0

"Okay! Nancheng, I don't have high demands—just get me a chicken leg; anything else is fine!" Lin Menghan quickly stated her request. After all, it was lunch; she couldn't shortchange herself—she definitely wanted that chicken leg. 0

"Alright, just sit here!" Xu Nancheng gently patted Lin Menghan's head before turning to queue for food. 0

Watching Xu Nancheng's departing figure, Lin Menghan couldn't help but smile happily. 0

Nearby, Xu Dong and Chen Yi watched with envy. "Do you two have to be so lovey-dovey all the time? Is it really necessary?!" 0

"Nancheng, you really are starting to get it," they teased as they walked towards the food line. 0

However, Xu Nancheng felt there was nothing wrong with it. He didn't understand what it meant to 'get it' and simply replied honestly, "I just want to treat her really well." 0

The two who had been joking around just moments ago now froze with their smiles fading into awkward twitches at the corners of their mouths. They exchanged glances and saw shock and envy reflected in each other's eyes. 0

When it was Xu Nancheng's turn to get food, he chose casually for himself—taking whatever looked good—but when it came to Lin Menghan, he was meticulous. He carefully selected dishes based on their taste and her preferences without any carelessness. 0

After swiping his meal card, he carried two plates back to their table. "Here! I wasn't sure what to pick, so I chose these; please don't dislike them." His face flushed as he placed the tray in front of Lin Menghan, his gaze slightly evasive as if he couldn't bear to look directly at her. 0

He was genuinely afraid that Lin Menghan would think poorly of his choices and look down on him. However, how could Lin Menghan possibly dislike what he picked? 0

"Wow! Nancheng, you're amazing! These are all my favorites!" Her eyes lit up instantly like two brilliant stars shining with joy and satisfaction. A radiant smile spread across her face—a happiness that was impossible to conceal. 0

Hearing this made Xu Nancheng feel a warm surge of emotion in his heart. He hadn't expected his choices would align so perfectly with Lin Menghan's tastes and make her so happy. The feeling of being appreciated made his cheeks flush slightly as he shyly lowered his head. 0

"As long as you like it," he said softly, his voice carrying an almost imperceptible tenderness. Then he slowly sat down and handed chopsticks to Lin Menghan before bowing his head and quietly starting to eat. 0

While enjoying the delicious food, Lin Menghan occasionally stole glances at Xu Nancheng. She noticed that there wasn't even a single chicken leg on his plate and frowned. No! How could she let him deprive himself like this? 0

Without hesitation, she took her chicken leg from her plate, picked out the largest and most tender piece of meat, and gently placed it on Xu Nancheng's plate. 0

"Come on, Nancheng, have a bite!" she said with a bright and melodious voice, her gaze filled with anticipation as she looked at him. Xu Nancheng raised his head and noticed the chicken leg she had picked was the one he had specifically saved for her, but he had no intention of eating it himself! 0

"Um, Lin Menghan, you can eat it yourself. Make sure you enjoy it," he shook his head. After all, it was meant for Lin Menghan, and he wouldn’t eat it himself. So he took the chicken leg back. 0

Seeing this, Lin Menghan pouted, "If you're going to be stubborn, then I'll take a softer approach. Nancheng, are you rejecting me?" She puffed out her cheeks as if she had suffered a great injustice. 0

"No, Lin Menghan, I really like you," he replied earnestly. He often found himself saying overly sweet things without realizing it. But this was just his way of explaining; he truly liked this girl and wanted to love her for a lifetime. 0

Lin Menghan felt her face flush at his words, and she stumbled over her speech. "Then... then you should take a bite! I’ll feed you?" 0

She didn’t even know where this sudden boldness came from, saying such things in front of so many classmates. 0

"I can eat by myself," Xu Nancheng thought about the scene—being watched by so many people might even end up on the confession wall; it would be a major social disaster! 0

Seeing Xu Nancheng relent, Lin Menghan finally gave in. She picked up a large piece of chicken leg from the plate and placed it in his bowl. "Here, for you." 0

Xu Nancheng looked at the chicken leg in his bowl, a slight smile appearing on his lips. Without hesitation, he picked up his chopsticks and brought the piece of meat to his mouth, chewing slowly. 0

After dinner, Xu Nancheng suddenly realized something and asked curiously, "Hmm? Where are Yi Ge and Xu Dong? Why aren’t they here?" 0

Lin Menghan looked up and glanced around, discovering that the two had not come over but had found another spot to sit down. She smiled helplessly to herself, thinking that these two really understood things a bit too well. 0

The afternoon passed without much happening; they just listened to a few teachers drone on. In the evening, since it was the first day of school, there was no evening study session. Instead, they adjusted their schedules. 0

School ended early that day, but before leaving, they had to arrange their seats properly since it was the start of the school year exam—it was quite important. 0

At home, after dinner and washing up, night had already fallen. 0

Lin Menghan began her journey into writing novels; of course, she wasn’t reading novels but writing them instead. 0
