This is the third chapter of her novel, and I wonder how long the story between Xu Han and Lin Chen will last.
Time passed, and Lin Menghan finished writing. She hurried to bed because there was a school entrance exam tomorrow! She didn’t want to face the embarrassment of doing poorly due to lack of rest. After all, Xu Fu and Xu Qi had high expectations of her.
With tears still in her eyes, she lay on her warm and comfortable bed, drifting into a deep sleep.
Early the next morning, it was just past six o'clock, but due to the hot weather, it was already bright outside.
“Lin Menghan, get up! Hurry and eat breakfast before school!” Xu Nancheng called from outside the door, knocking as he shouted.
This was probably the second time he had called Lin Menghan to wake up since she had stayed up too late the night before and struggled to rise in the morning. His voice wasn’t loud or harsh; instead, it carried a gentle warmth and affection.
Soon, a series of muffled sounds came from inside the room. Hearing this, Xu Nancheng's imagination began to run wild. Lin Menghan was curled up in her warm blanket, her eyelids fluttering slightly, her lips trembling as she made soft sounds, unwillingly shifting her body.
He thought she looked so cute like that! He wanted to see more of her! But he couldn’t.
After a while, the muffled sounds faded away, replaced by footsteps. Then came a creak as the door opened. Sleep still clung to Lin Menghan’s eyes, which were still hazy. Her long hair fell naturally over her face as she stood at the door, rubbing her eyes. “Good morning, Nancheng.”
“Huh? Oh, good morning, Lin Menghan.” Xu Nancheng replied, his face flushed as he stammered.
He meant no harm; he just thought that his future girlfriend looked so beautiful right after waking up! So adorable! If they could share a room, wouldn’t it be wonderful to see her every morning? And what if he could hug her too?
Last time at his hometown, he could have seen her like that, but he scared her awake with just one word. At that moment, he hadn’t paid much attention to Lin Menghan’s appearance either.
“Go change your clothes! Breakfast is ready; we have an exam at seven-thirty.” Xu Nancheng took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down, though his demeanor remained awkward.
“Okay!” She nodded obediently.
After breakfast, she walked to the door. “Mom, I’m leaving. Bye!”
“Goodbye!” Lin Zhen waved with a smile as she watched them head off to school. “Good luck on your exam! I’ll make you something delicious!”
With a bang, the door closed behind them. The young couple walking side by side began to act a little more freely. Without hesitation, Xu Nancheng grabbed Lin Menghan’s delicate hand tightly.
There was nothing else on her mind but to hold his hand!
Lin Menghan certainly wouldn’t back down. Feeling the warmth of his hand, she immediately grasped it tightly. They exchanged smiles, both of their cheeks flushed with a rosy hue.
"Lin Menghan, you're in the exam hall, and I'm in the exam hall—it's so far apart!" Xu Nancheng spoke first, feeling frustrated about the arrangement. He thought they should be sitting side by side.
The school had set up the entire Building One as the exam venue, with three classrooms on each floor. Starting from the first floor and moving up, the remaining exams were held in lecture halls similar to those in universities.
Lin Menghan was on one floor, while Xu Nancheng was several floors above her.
Since they weren't taking the comprehensive exam yet, the schedule was tight: two subjects in the morning and one in the afternoon. With only a ten-minute break between sessions, it felt quite distant—anyone who had been through high school would understand.
"Yeah, why does it have to be so far?" Lin Menghan expressed her strong dissatisfaction, pouting her lips in annoyance.
Seeing her like this made Xu Nancheng unsure whether he should be happy or not. When she was happy, he felt happy; when she was upset, he felt upset too. But seeing Lin Menghan's expression meant she cared about him, which made him feel pleased.
Xu Nancheng gently ruffled Lin Menghan's hair and smiled. "I'll come find you later!"
It was just a few floors; he could run a few steps!
"Really? But running up three flights of stairs is still a bit tiring!" Lin Menghan initially felt delighted but then thought that it might not be worth it if he got too tired.
However, she forgot that just because Xu Nancheng excelled in academics didn’t mean he wasn’t good at sports!
"It's a small problem! No matter how far it is, I will come find you," Xu Nancheng said with earnestness in his eyes.
Even though Lin Menghan felt a bit embarrassed by his words, her heart swelled with sweetness. With a bright smile, she replied, "Really? That sounds great!"
Hehe, once the exam is over, I’ll get to see Nancheng! Just thinking about him walking towards her from the exam hall entrance made her heart flutter; that anticipation and excitement were almost overwhelming.
