This afternoon, with some free time on his hands, Xu Nancheng looked at Lin Menghan with eager anticipation. Watching the sunset with the girl he adored was something many boys dreamt of, and it promised to be an incredibly romantic moment.
For Lin Menghan, she too longed to witness the beautiful sunset alongside Xu Nancheng. She firmly believed that the sunset here would be breathtaking. Ah! I want to watch it with Nancheng too! she replied cheerfully.
Oh right, Nancheng, I’ll be waiting for you on the third floor later, and then we can go have lunch together! Lin Menghan said happily, her face glowing with a smile of happiness.
Ah! The girl I like wants to have lunch with me—just thinking about it makes me so happy!
As for Chen Yi and Xu Dong, they couldn’t blame their friend for being unkind; they could only say that Lin Menghan was simply too charming! After finishing the exam today, he would just have to apologize to them.
Look at you, you’re sweating! Xu Nancheng noticed a few drops of sweat on Lin Menghan’s flushed face and said with concern as he reached out to wipe her sweat away. Since he had already used up all the tissues from wiping away tears earlier, he could only gently brush away the bitter sweat with his own hand, leaving a trace of warmth behind.
The classmates were all watching them, and this gesture seemed quite ambiguous. Lin Menghan’s face instantly turned bright red, but a smile involuntarily appeared at the corners of her mouth, filling her heart with warmth.
Just then, the bell signaling the start of the exam rang. The next class was a physics test, and many students were bound to struggle in this subject; no one has ever liked physics throughout history.
However, for Xu Nancheng and Lin Menghan, there was no need for panic.
When Xu Nancheng tackled the multiple-choice questions, he could almost select the answer immediately after reading the question. For calculation problems, he confidently wrote directly on the answer sheet without even needing scratch paper because that would only slow him down. Other methods were unnecessary for him.
In contrast, Lin Menghan had not engaged with high school physics knowledge for a long time and felt a bit rusty. Nevertheless, she managed to complete the test while ensuring her accuracy.
After finishing their papers, students became less honest; while rushing to the cafeteria, they couldn’t help but compare answers.
Hey! What did you choose for that question? I calculated the answer but none of the four options matched! One student complained indignantly.
What did you choose? Another student replied confidently.
No way! That’s absolutely wrong!
It has to be that one! A few students began to argue.
A classmate nearby laughed and said, Look at you all arguing so much; just pick one and get by!
As Xu Nancheng walked up the stairs, he didn’t say much but simply smiled. The answers they chose were wrong due to calculation errors; there were traps involved after all. It was still a bit challenging since it was the last multiple-choice question, and that question was really tough!
He reached the third-floor stairwell and looked around but didn’t see Lin Menghan anywhere.
He couldn’t help but wonder, Hmm? Where is Lin Menghan? Why can’t I see her? Did she leave?
Not willing to give up, he waited at the stairway for a while when suddenly everything went dark in front of him, accompanied by a gentle presence.
Guess who I am? A sweet voice came from behind him.
"Let me guess, Xu Dong!" Xu Nancheng said with a sneer.
"No, no! The person behind hasn't let go; you need to keep guessing," came the reply.
"Then it's Chen Yi!" Xu Nancheng continued, but he guessed wrong again.
"You did that on purpose!" The girl behind him pouted, her cheeks flushed with frustration.
Xu Nancheng turned around, grinning as he gazed at the girl in front of him, remaining silent.
"You're being unreasonable!" Lin Menghan protested, playfully hitting his chest with her small hands and stamping her feet in dissatisfaction.
"Lin Menghan, how could I not know it was you?" Xu Nancheng said, taking her hand and gently ruffling her hair to comfort her.
"But why should I listen to you? Why won't you just say it's me?" Lin Menghan insisted, still sulking.
"You’re just being childish! You guessed twice and didn’t say my name!" Lin Menghan continued to pout.
In truth, she knew everything; she understood that Xu Nancheng was pretending, so she decided to play along.
How could anyone not distinguish between male and female voices, especially when the difference was so obvious?
However, she had just said something a bit off; what if she had been thinking too far-fetched?
Xu Nancheng, being the top student he was, quickly caught on to the key point. A smirk appeared on his lips as he pulled Lin Menghan closer, staring intently into her eyes. "Hmm? Lin Menghan, what were you just saying?"
Looking into Xu Nancheng's face so close to hers made her remember what she had just said. Her gaze darted away as she hurriedly lowered her head, feeling quite shy. "W-What are you talking about? I don’t know!"
"Can you please stop staring at me like that? There are other people around." At that moment, most of the crowd had dispersed; after all, they needed to eat and should be more proactive about it.
Xu Nancheng wouldn’t fall for such nonsense. "Who else is here? Lin Menghan, what did you mean by 'my Lin Menghan'? Can you explain that?"
Seeing Xu Nancheng holding her hand and leaning in so close that it felt like he was about to embrace her made her panic. Oh no, this is bad! What is he trying to do? Is he going to kiss me? That wouldn’t be so bad! But he promised me not to do that right now! Plus, we’re in a public place! If someone sees us...
"Wait a minute, Nancheng! You can’t do this; you promised!" She hurriedly tried to stop him, waving her small hands in a symbolic gesture. She never really thought about actually stopping him.
