As soon as the words left his mouth, a shout rang out from nearby: "Class is starting! Hurry up!" The crowd quickly dispersed. However, Chen Yi remained calm at the back, casually opening his phone's photo album. Suddenly, the corners of his mouth twitched slightly as an unusual feeling surged within him. What does this mean? My sister! Nancheng! Why are these images on my phone?
On the screen, a photo of the two of them appeared. He shook his head helplessly, put away his phone, and sighed deeply before heading to the classroom nonchalantly.
That evening, Lin Menghan and Xu Nancheng arrived home.
"Hey, you're here! Come on, come on! Sweet and sour ribs! This is what Auntie Lin promised to make for you as a late-night snack," Lin Zhen said cheerfully.
Auntie's cooking is really delicious! Lin Menghan quickly grabbed a piece and stuffed it into her mouth. "Wow, it's so good!" Her eyes widened in delight. Xu Nancheng naturally didn't hold back either, but he was still quite restrained; he wanted to make sure Lin Menghan had enough to eat.
"As long as it tastes good! Alright, you two should get some rest early. I'm heading to my room now!" Lin Zhen said, reminding them that she had work in the morning and would usually have gone to bed by now.
After they finished eating, both took out their phones to check messages. Sure enough, photos had been sent to them.
Lin Menghan received a simple text message: "Sister, I sent you the photos."
However, Xu Nancheng received an additional message: "Nancheng, does it even matter if you two are pursuing each other?"
This message clearly hinted that they both liked each other all along; when they weren't together, things were sweet enough—would there be any difference once they were? There was no distinction at all!
Xu Nancheng obviously didn't grasp the deeper meaning behind it and quickly replied with a question mark.
Chen Yi almost immediately responded, clarifying his point again.
Xu Nancheng lifted his head and began to ponder. Hmm, it seems like there really isn't much change. Wait! No difference? There is a difference! She doesn’t give me hugs or kisses now! If we were together... heh heh heh...
It seems so! I need to find the right moment to ask her for a title. Xu Nancheng wore a silly grin as he casually replied with a scratching-head emoji.
Then he tossed his phone aside and got lost in thought. Should I ask Lin Menghan for a title? If I ask her, she would definitely agree... but oh well, that’s not going to happen!
Reason finally triumphed over desire.
He felt that he needed to become better in order to match Lin Menghan and then share wonderful moments with her; only then could he give her everything she wanted—even though he wasn't quite sure what that was.
However, desire was not ready to give up and surged back again.
He thought about how wonderful it would be if they could be together. At that time, he could hold soft and fragrant Lin Menghan every day and enjoy sweet moments of intimate contact—he could even occasionally ask her for kisses! At this thought, a smile broke across his face.
Little did he know that Lin Menghan was watching him with wide eyes full of confusion. She blinked repeatedly as she observed Xu Nancheng's silly grin while he continued munching on food.
A hint of concern flickered in her gaze. Could it be that Nancheng had become so silly just from looking at a photo?
Lin Menghan gently extended her hand, tentatively touching Xu Nancheng's arm with her fingers, and softly asked, "Nancheng, are you okay?"
Hearing her voice, Xu Nancheng snapped back to reality, stammering in response, "Ah? Um? Oh! I'm fine, I'm fine!" He hurriedly grabbed his phone, turned off the screen, and put on a serious expression as he sat there obediently.
Lin Menghan didn't dwell on the matter for long. Instead, she tightly grasped Xu Nancheng's arm and playfully shook it, insisting, "Nancheng! The wallpaper! Hurry up! I want to see you set it up!" For Lin Menghan, witnessing Xu Nancheng set that photo as his wallpaper was an incredibly happy moment.
"Okay, okay, Lin Menghan, stop shaking! I'll do it right now!" He quickly tried to halt her antics; after all, if she kept shaking him like that, his brain might just jostle around!
However, when he opened his phone, he suddenly caught a glimpse of Lin Menghan. She was staring intently at his phone screen as he prepared to save the image for the wallpaper. What if she noticed those few short messages he had exchanged earlier?
Seeing the growing anxiety on the girl's face beside him, he steeled himself and typed in a code.
What did this string of numbers mean? Of course, it was Lin Menghan's birthday! After spending so much time together, they surely knew each other's birthdays; it was significant!
Watching Xu Nancheng press the keys made Lin Menghan's eyes widen. Her cheeks flushed again as her heart raced. "Nancheng, you really like me that much?" she thought to herself, feeling bashful and lowering her head.
"Yeah." Xu Nancheng felt a bit shy too; after all, this was the first time he had used a girl's birthday as his lock screen code. Just then, he noticed that Lin Menghan wasn't looking his way anymore. He quickly clicked into the chat interface and swiftly completed saving and exiting the necessary operations.
Phew! That was too close! He almost got caught by her seeing his chat history with Chen Yi. After that, he set the photo as both the home screen and lock screen wallpaper—both were now the same image!
Once he exited and saw the change in his phone wallpaper, warmth surged in both their hearts.
At that moment, both Nancheng and Lin Menghan had flushed faces and shy glances. Their fingers fidgeted nervously as they softly called out to each other.
"Huh? What's wrong?" Xu Nancheng turned his head just in time to see a blushing face quickly approaching him. Before he could react further, a light kiss landed on his cheek like a gentle peck from a chick.
