"Alright! Time to tidy up and go to bed, we have one more exam tomorrow!" Lin Menghan said as she got up, playfully ruffling Xu Nancheng's hair.
With a light thud, he also got up and returned the gesture, tousling her hair in turn, and they both burst into laughter.
The next day, the morning light filtered softly through the curtains, awakening the sleeping world. As usual, they held hands while stepping out of their home, ready to embrace a new day.
This time, however, they felt closer than before, as if their hearts were intertwined even more tightly.
Upon arriving at school, they headed to different exam rooms to prepare for the challenges ahead. Time ticked by slowly until the final bell rang, signaling the end of the exams. He eagerly sought her out so they could enjoy lunch together in the cafeteria. Afterward, they dove back into their afternoon exams.
As the last bell rang, the entire campus was enveloped in a sense of relaxation and joy. They had finally completed all their exam tasks.
"Yay! Finally done with the exams!" one classmate cheered.
"Oh my goodness! These past two days have been exhausting!" another lamented.
"Seriously, why do we even have exams?" someone else complained. Everyone sighed in relief, their faces lighting up with smiles of liberation.
A group of classmates began sharing their experiences in the hallway, some frowning as they complained about difficult math problems while others expressed relief for having memorized some key points. Most were laughing and joking about it; after all, very few students truly lost their temper over exams—at least not in this small county town. Everyone understood that exams were just a part of life and not worth getting overly serious about.
Just then, Xu Nancheng spotted Lin Menghan from afar and felt a rush of happiness. He quickly jogged over to her. Breathless, he asked, "Lin Menghan, how did it go? Did you do well?" He took her backpack without waiting for an answer and walked alongside her back to the classroom.
"It was pretty good! I thought it was quite easy!" Lin Menghan replied with a smile. "What about you?" Her eyes sparkled with anticipation as she awaited his response.
Xu Nancheng lifted his chin confidently, his gaze steady and full of self-assurance. "I did great! You still don’t believe in me?" His last words carried a hint of unnoticeable grievance that tugged at one's heartstrings.
Hearing his tone made Lin Menghan chuckle softly like a tinkling bell. She playfully retorted, "Oh come on! I believe in you the most!" As she spoke, she reached out with her slender fingers and tickled his side.
"Hey! Lin Menghan!" Xu Nancheng exclaimed, caught off guard by the sudden tickling but quickly regained his composure and reached out to tickle her back.
"I’m sorry! I promise to behave!" Lin Menghan cried out in mock surrender. She knew very well that if this continued, she wouldn’t come out on top. The best course of action was to plead for mercy; if she showed enough sincerity, he would surely let her off the hook.
However, Xu Nancheng gazed at her adorable face and couldn’t help but smile slightly as he paused his movements.
But he had no intention of letting her off so easily. He slowly raised his finger and gently tapped her forehead while pretending to be serious. "Next time, no more mischief!"
Lin Menghan looked like a startled little bird as she nodded vigorously, repeating, "Okay! Nancheng is the best! Love you!" Her sweet voice was like a gentle spring breeze that brushed against Xu Nancheng's heart, filling him with warmth and affection.
Xu Nancheng listened quietly to Lin Menghan’s declaration of love; warmth surged within him as a faint blush crept onto his cheeks. He softly replied, "I love you too, Han Bao!" The words felt like sweet candy melting in the air.
Yet such simple words left Lin Menghan momentarily flustered. She widened her eyes in disbelief as she stared at Xu Nancheng, internally questioning what had just happened—why did he suddenly call her Han Bao?
In his heart, Lin Menghan was his most beloved girl; she was unique to him—his treasure.
She hurriedly waved her hand, "What are you talking about? Who is your Han Bao? I’m not!" She actually loved being called that! She really, really liked it!
Xu Nancheng smiled, his eyes filled with tenderness. "You! Who else could be my Han Bao? It will always be you!"
Lin Menghan's cheeks turned red from his words, and she quickly punched his chest. "Oh, stop it! Nancheng, how could you say that today! You can only call me that in private; it’s so embarrassing!"
As they walked along, classmates moving tables and chairs looked at the playful couple with amused smiles. They moved aside to give them space, but two guys decided to go against the flow, approaching with similar amused expressions. "Cough, cough! Nancheng, little sister! Save the flirting for home; we need to move these tables and chairs!"
It was Xu Dong, the class monitor. If someone wasn’t following the rules, he had to remind them. But since it was Nancheng and his little sister, he had to go easy on them!
Hearing this, Xu Nancheng awkwardly smiled and glanced at Xu Dong before nodding. He then turned to gently pat Lin Menghan on the head. "Come on, Lin Menghan, let’s move the tables and chairs!"
"I know! Don’t hit me!" Lin Menghan quickly followed him, giving his back a light tap.
Xu Nancheng pretended to be in pain and laughed along. "Oh no, I’m sorry! I won’t hit you again!"
