It was obvious that Xu Nancheng had a preference for Lin Menghan. After all, she was secretly dating their son behind Xu Mu's back, which made Lin Menghan feel even more embarrassed. 0

As for Lin Zhen, she didn't know what to say. Her son liked Lin Menghan, and that was fine, but it seemed like he was obsessed with her now, with thoughts of Lin Menghan occupying his mind entirely. 0

However, Lin Menghan quickly regained her composure and turned to Xu Nancheng, saying, "Nancheng, we should share this food; sharing makes it more enjoyable." 0

"Hey, Lin Menghan, he bought this for you, so just eat it yourself!" Lin Zhen hurriedly intervened. After all, it was meant for Lin Menghan, not for her. 0

"Oh come on, Auntie! It's meant to be shared!" Lin Menghan replied as she set down the cake and picked up a small slice. She wasn't the type to just talk without action; she was a kind and generous girl. 0

At that moment, Xu Nancheng slowly walked over, took Lin Menghan's small hand, and gently snatched the slice from the table. "Lin Menghan," he said softly, "I know I was wrong. Let me cut it for you; you just enjoy it." With that, he gently pulled Lin Menghan back onto the sofa. 0

Sitting on the sofa, Lin Menghan smiled at Xu Nancheng, her eyes filled with love and understanding. She thought to herself that Nancheng really understood her well. Then she cheerfully said to him, "Nancheng, I’ll leave it to you!" 0

Xu Nancheng smiled back at Lin Menghan. "No problem at all." He agreed with her sentiment and decided to go along with what she suggested. 0

It wasn't just that he understood; he also listened to her. 0

Lin Zhen watched them interact intimately without saying much. At that moment, she was thinking that her son had found a good partner in Lin Menghan. 0

Then Xu Nancheng began dividing the cake. He handed a plate to Lin Zhen and was about to take a piece for himself when he suddenly looked up and asked, "Where are Mom and Dad?" 0

Lin Zhen paused with the cake in her hand and replied with a sigh, "They're sleeping. We can eat without disturbing them!" 0

Xu Nancheng felt a bit awkward about this. It wouldn't be right to wake them up. Lin Zhen had a point; they could save a piece for later in the fridge. She felt comfortable enough to say this because they were an old married couple now. 0

If it were Xu Nancheng and Lin Menghan in the same situation tomorrow, he would probably end up sulking. 0

Just as Xu Nancheng picked up a piece of cake but hadn't taken a bite yet, he remembered that Lin Menghan wanted to take on a part-time job. He thought it would be better to report this first and try to stop her; he didn't want to see his girl working herself too hard. 0

"Uh... Mom," he hesitated before finally bringing up the topic of Lin Menghan's part-time job. He was worried that she might get upset about it. 0

Lin Menghan was taken aback when she heard this but quickly responded, "Nancheng, I'm not angry with him at all." In fact, she couldn't bring herself to be upset with him. 0

She felt that if she wanted to take on a part-time job, there was no need for anyone to stop her; there was no reason for Uncle and Auntie to worry about her. 0

Xu Nancheng immediately lowered his head. He didn't know what else Lin Menghan would say but felt compelled to avoid confrontation if possible. 0

Lin Menghan didn't press further either; instead, she wore a charming smile as she looked at Lin Zhen. "Auntie, what do you think?" 0

"Lin Menghan," Lin Zhen asked curiously, "why do you want to take on a part-time job? Don't we treat you well?" She wasn't opposed; she just wanted to understand why she felt the need to work part-time. 0

"No, Auntie, Uncle and Auntie, as well as Nancheng, have all been good to me. That's only natural. Xu Mu has never treated me as an outsider since the day I arrived, and Xu Nancheng values me even more than himself." 0

"Then why?" 0

"I don't want to be a burden to Uncle and Auntie. You've all treated me so well, and if I keep relying on you like this, it just doesn't feel right." Lin Menghan spoke sincerely, even moving Lin Zhen. 0

When Lin Menghan saw Xu Wenzhao, she impulsively wanted to visit his home. However, she recently realized that despite their kindness, she still had to face the reality of being considerate; one shouldn't take others' kindness for granted. 0

"Oh, Lin Menghan, I know it's your choice what to do, but really, since Uncle and Auntie have said they will support you, just accept it. If you really want to repay us, focus on your studies," Lin Zhen advised her earnestly against taking a part-time job. 0

"I understand, Auntie, but that's for the future. I want to repay you, but I also want to lighten your burden a bit. Your family isn't exactly wealthy, and I feel guilty about coming here. Besides, it won't affect my studies." Her expression of guilt was evident and heartwarming. 0

"Alright, Lin Menghan, let me ask Old Xu. If he agrees, then it's fine," Lin Zhen said. She wanted to say more but seeing Lin Menghan's expression made her give up and leave the decision to Xu Wenzhao. 0

After all, if Xu Wenzhao disagreed, it wouldn't work out anyway. 0

Lin Zhen stood up and walked toward the bedroom. 0

"Ah, thank you, Auntie!" Upon hearing this, Lin Menghan's smile instantly brightened; this was already a tacit approval from Lin Zhen. 0

"Old Xu! Old Xu! Wake up!" Lin Zhen called out to Xu Wenzhao from the bedroom. He was startled awake by the sudden shout and sat up groggily. Hearing his wife's call made him quickly spring up like a fish leaping from water. But when he saw that Lin Zhen didn’t seem to be in any urgent situation, he casually asked, "What's wrong, dear? I was sleeping so soundly." 0

"Lin Menghan wants to take a part-time job; she says she wants to lighten our burden. What do you think?" Lin Zhen frowned with concern as she looked at Xu Wenzhao. 0

"Huh? What? What did she say?" Xu Wenzhao asked while quickly getting dressed to understand the situation. 0

In the living room, Lin Menghan looked smugly at Xu Nancheng with a sly smile on her lips and whispered playfully, "Nancheng!" After saying that, she mischievously ruffled his hair. 0

Xu Nancheng hung his head low, feeling quite downcast. He truly didn't want Lin Menghan to work because he was worried about her getting tired. However, facing the current situation made him feel powerless; he had no chance of stopping her now. 0
