Indeed, the top five students in the grade were all from their class, which meant that Li Jianguo's rules were essentially a blessing for them. However, when they stood up, the entire class erupted in gasps of awe—something that had never happened before.
Why was that? Because of Xu Nancheng and his little girlfriend. They were ranked first and second in the grade, sitting together and dating; wasn’t that enough to make the gossip-loving students gasp in surprise?
Li Jianguo observed their astonished expressions and quickly understood their thoughts. He didn’t expose them but simply said, “Ah! Are you envious? Then work hard! Strive to be like them.” While he appeared to be referring to the top five students, he was really speaking about the couple.
Xu Nancheng, of course, didn’t understand and just stood there grinning foolishly, but Lin Menghan couldn’t possibly be oblivious. In an instant, her previously confident smile turned shy.
“Alright, sit down.” The few who had stood up took their seats again, and Lin Menghan felt relieved that she wouldn’t have to face any more scrutiny; it had been uncomfortable just a moment ago.
“Okay! Let’s start class!” With that announcement, the classroom fell silent once more, leaving only Li Jianguo’s voice lecturing.
Before they knew it, a week had passed, bringing with it the weekend that many students had eagerly anticipated. The cake shop’s Zhou Yuxuan informed Lin Menghan that she only worked on Saturdays and Sundays, starting at eight in the morning and leaving at nine in the evening without needing to close up.
At that moment, Lin Menghan thought that this sister was truly wonderful.
On Saturday morning, around seven o'clock, Lin Menghan planned to head to work.
“Lin Menghan, can I walk you there?” Xu Nancheng asked with a reluctant expression, wanting to stick by her side.
Lin Menghan nodded eagerly. “Sure! Will you come with me?” She couldn’t bear to part from her Nancheng.
“Of course!” Xu Nancheng was more than willing; he would stay with her in the shop as long as she wanted—though it might not look good for him to linger there too long.
“Alright then, let’s go!” Lin Menghan took Xu Nancheng’s hand and walked out the door before closing it behind them.
The cake shop wasn’t very far from home—just a ten-minute walk. But since one was at home and the other at work, they hardly saw each other!
As they walked along, they chatted affectionately, attracting attention from many passersby who became their early customers.
Once outside the shop, it was time to say goodbye; it felt as if they wouldn’t see each other for years.
Lin Menghan and Xu Nancheng stood there awkwardly, wanting to say something but unsure what to express.
“Nancheng, I’ll miss you. You have to think of me too, okay?” Lin Menghan held both of Xu Nancheng’s hands and looked at him shyly.
"Come a little closer, Lin Menghan," Xu Nancheng said, his voice warm. "Of course, I really miss you."
"Alright, come here for a hug!" Lin Menghan released her grip on Xu Nancheng and opened her arms wide, inviting him in.
Without hesitation, Xu Nancheng stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her tightly, not wanting to let go at all.
After a long moment, Lin Menghan gasped, "Nancheng, you're squeezing too hard! I can't breathe!" She quickly patted his back to signal him to ease up.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to," Xu Nancheng said as he loosened his hold and apologized.
"Silly, I wasn't mad at you," Lin Menghan replied with a smile. She then stood on her tiptoes and planted a playful kiss on his cheek.
Xu Nancheng wasn't about to back down either; he pulled her in for another embrace, planting kisses on her cheek in return.
"Alright then, Lin Menghan, I'll see you later. I'll pick you up tonight," Xu Nancheng said, knowing that this girl was afraid of the dark. He made it a point to come for her in the evening so he could see her earlier.
"Okay! Nancheng, bye! I'll be waiting for you!" Lin Menghan nodded eagerly before turning to head into the store.
Xu Nancheng watched her go, taking a couple of steps before turning back to ensure she was safely inside. He lingered for a moment longer until she disappeared from view.
During their time together on the street, they were completely absorbed in each other, unaware of how many people were quietly observing them. If they had noticed, they probably would have wanted to find a hole to hide in.
"Hey there, Menghan Sister! Getting cozy with your boyfriend?" Zhou Yuxuan teased as she approached Lin Menghan after seeing her enter the store. Having already become friends with Lin Menghan, she couldn't resist the opportunity to poke fun.
Lin Menghan's cheeks flushed immediately at Zhou Yuxuan's words; she realized their earlier moment had been witnessed. Still, she decided to play coy. "What are you talking about? I don't understand."
Zhou Yuxuan laughed heartily. "Your face is all red; it's obvious! Come on now," she leaned closer to Lin Menghan's ear and whispered conspiratorially, "Menghan Sister, stop pretending. I saw everything! What were you two talking about? I want to hear all about it."
Zhou Yuxuan looked at Lin Menghan with an eager expression, clearly intrigued by the playful banter.
