Upon hearing this, Lin Menghan was truly embarrassed, quickly waving her hands and shaking her head. "Who is your sister-in-law? It's not me!"
Xu Nancheng was no exception. Although he hadn't quite grasped their earlier conversation, he had clearly heard the term "sister-in-law." Now that Lin Menghan was hiding behind him, he felt cornered and could only lower his head and endure the situation.
The awkwardness of being caught in such a moment was palpable, especially with the teasing directed at them. Wang Xinyue, however, was quicker on her feet than the others. With a mischievous smile, she looked at Lin Menghan and said, "What’s this? You’re admitting it? We never said it was you, Lin Menghan!"
Lin Menghan froze in place, stammering and struggling to find her words. "You... you guys..." At this point, she had completely hidden her head behind Xu Nancheng.
Xu Nancheng looked at her flustered expression and wasn't sure whether to laugh or not. He had never seen her so embarrassed before. Even though he himself was in a difficult position, he felt the need to intervene. After all, he couldn't let his girlfriend be teased like this! He quickly waved his hands and said, "Alright, enough of that." His tone came off as timid, almost as if he were trying to dissuade them from bullying him instead.
Seeing this, the others realized that if they continued to tease them, they might end up in a state of permanent embarrassment and would have to retreat to some remote mountain to live out their days in solitude.
Xu Dong quickly changed the subject. " Nancheng, are you sure you want to provoke Shen Dajian like that? Won't Yi Ge get angry?"
Chen Yi initially felt pleased by the first part of Xu Dong's statement; it seemed his son hadn’t been spoiled for nothing and knew how to stand up for himself. However, upon hearing the latter part of the sentence, his expression changed dramatically. He turned to Xu Dong and said sternly, "Kid! Don’t think just because you’re my son I won’t hit you!"
With that, he grabbed Xu Dong and playfully punched him on the back a couple of times. Anyone who had experienced such treatment would know just how painful it could be.
Xu Dong was no exception; he immediately began writhing like a pig about to be slaughtered, shouting, "Yi Ge! My real dad! Don’t do this! I’ll be disabled!"
Lin Menghan and Xu Nancheng couldn’t help but burst into laughter at this scene and exchanged amused glances.
Wang Xinyue rushed over to grab Chen Yi's arm. "Chen Yi! Stop it! That’s enough! If you keep going like this, he really will be disabled!"
Hearing this, Chen Yi finally stopped and clapped his hands together. "Son, don’t joke around with your dad like that."
"You’re right; I won’t joke around anymore," Xu Dong replied as he raised his hands in mock surrender. However, Chen Yi’s playful grin made him hesitate; he didn’t want to go through that ordeal again.
"That’s more like it!" Chen Yi clapped his hands and teased Xu Dong.
Meanwhile, Wang Xinyue ran over to rub Xu Dong's back. "Don’t really end up disabled!" But when Xu Dong noticed Wang Xinyue getting ready to make a move behind him, he quickly asked, "Hey! What are you doing?"
"I’m just giving you a back rub," Wang Xinyue replied innocently with wide eyes.
Xu Dong quickly moved away from her reach and pressed his back against the wall. "Don’t mess around! Men and women shouldn’t be too close!" He struck a pose as if he were a chaste gentleman.
Seeing him so guarded, Wang Xinyue hurried over to Lin Menghan's side and shook her head at her friend. "This guy really doesn’t know how to appreciate things."
Lin Menghan leaned closer to Wang Xinyue's ear with a sly smile and whispered, "Now I see who’s really missing out!"
Wang Xinyue widened her eyes in surprise at Lin Menghan's comment.
Lin Menghan didn't care about her shocked expression and continued talking to herself, wondering when this had happened. She had made others laugh at her, and at that moment, she also revealed a smile reminiscent of an aunt's.
Wang Xinyue, feeling guilty, quickly shook off her hand.
Seeing the two whispering together, Xu Nancheng hurried over, asking, "What are you two talking about?"
However, he was met with a closed door. Lin Menghan smiled mischievously and said, "I'll tell you later."
Oh! Since Lin Menghan wasn't saying anything more, he didn't press further and decided to be a good boy.
Just then, Xu Dong ran over and patted Xu Nancheng on the shoulder. "Nancheng, let's be real. You got Dai Yan's girlfriend; do you think he'll let you off easy?"
Xu Nancheng froze for a moment. It wasn't just him; everyone else stiffened as well. They hadn't considered this issue at all.
"Nancheng, what should we do? If he hits you, should we fight back?" Xu Dong felt that given Xu Nancheng's personality, he must have acted impulsively without thinking it through; otherwise, he wouldn't have dared to do it!
But Xu Nancheng remained expressionless and casually replied, "Let him hit me; am I afraid of him?" At that moment, he truly wasn't scared of that guy!
Chen Yi found it amusing and walked over to pat Xu Nancheng on the shoulder. "Nancheng, feeling tough now? Not backing down?"
"He hit Lin Menghan!" Xu Nancheng said this seriously, without a hint of joking in his tone; there seemed to be anger in his eyes.
Xu Dongchen and Wang Xinyue couldn't help but chuckle despite not finding it particularly funny.
Lin Menghan felt both shy and admiring at the same time. "Hehe! Nancheng is quite responsible!"
"What are you all laughing at?" Xu Nancheng looked at them with a confused expression.
