Seeing him like this, Lin Menghan let out a slow breath, paused for a moment, and then pinched Xu Nancheng's cheek with her other hand. "What’s there to cry about, Nancheng? Don’t act like it’s the end of the world!"
Hearing this, Xu Nancheng hurriedly wiped his tears. "Okay, okay! I won’t cry! Are we going to the hospital or not?"
"Really unnecessary, I’m not that fragile." After resting for a bit, she was basically able to stand up. She even moved around a bit to show Xu Nancheng, which finally eased his worries.
"Let’s go! We need to find the teacher." Lin Menghan pulled Xu Nancheng toward the exit. This matter needed to be addressed, especially since the fault lay with the other party. Even if she had retaliated, admitting fault wouldn’t be a big deal.
As they reached the classroom door, before Xu Nancheng could respond, someone shouted, "Lao Ke is here!"
Then, the crowded hallway parted as students made way. Guo Jianguo approached with an unhappy expression, sighing as he headed toward the classroom. Wang Xinyue and Xu Dong followed behind him, along with another classmate.
Guo Jianguo stopped at the doorway and spoke sternly. "Everyone involved in this incident and the fight earlier, come to the office!"
With that, he turned and walked toward the office, followed by several students.
Among them were Xu Dong, who had gone to complain earlier, Wang Xinyue, Lin Menghan, Xu Nancheng, Chen Yi, Dai Yan, and Shen Yaoqi.
Upon arriving at the office and seeing the top students in front of him, Guo Jianguo rubbed his temples and let out a long sigh, feeling both bitter and helpless.
Since Wang Xinyue hadn’t suffered any substantial harm and her offense wasn’t serious, he only spoke to her briefly before sending her back to class. As for Chen Yi and Shen Yaoqi, although they hadn’t done anything major wrong, they were still involved in the incident and needed to stay.
The remaining students argued in the office corridor for quite some time. Guo Jianguo was growing weary of dealing with the situation; his ears were tired from listening but there was still no resolution.
He slammed his hand on the railing. "If we can’t resolve this properly, we’ll have to call in your parents! Enough is enough!"
Finally, after much effort, he managed to bring in Xu Nancheng's dad and Uncle Dai Yan for a discussion. After a lengthy conversation, it was decided that Dai Yan would receive a disciplinary record for insulting and hitting a classmate; Shen Yaoqi would get a warning for insulting another student; Chen Yi would not be punished since he wasn’t present during the incident; Xu Nancheng and Xu Dong would not face any consequences for defending their classmates and having good behavior prior; while Lin Menghan had done nothing wrong throughout and would not be punished but instead received compensation from Dai Yan.
After leaving the office and glancing back down the corridor, they saw Dai Yan being scolded by his uncle again. The sight made everyone exchange amused glances—everyone except Shen Yaoqi.
As Xu Wenzhao reached the stairway, he called Xu Nancheng and Lin Menghan aside. He patted Xu Nancheng on the shoulder. "Nancheng, even though I said no fighting, you did well this time! As a man—or rather as Lin Menghan's boyfriend—you did right!"
Xu Nancheng felt elated at his father's praise!
Upon hearing the latter part of his statement, Lin Menghan couldn’t help but blush and quickly lowered her head. Just a month ago they were told to act like siblings!
Then Xu Wenzhao turned to Lin Menghan. "Lin Menghan!"
"Huh? Uncle, what is it?" Hearing her name made Lin Menghan sit up straight in anticipation while feeling slightly flustered.
"It’s nothing much; just remember what I said before—don’t feel constrained around us. If you need anything, just let me or Nancheng know. Your auntie and I don’t see you as an outsider; besides!" He paused for effect. "You’re still our future daughter-in-law!"
Lin Menghan wished she could dig a hole to hide in; within less than thirty seconds she had received two shocking blows.
Her face turned crimson as she stared at her toes digging into the ground and replied softly, "Yes… okay Uncle!"
Although Xu Nancheng's face was also flushed, he felt a pang of sympathy watching Xu Wenzhao make Lin Menghan so shy. He quickly called out, "Dad, you can go now!"
"Oh, oh, right! Then that's settled. You two study hard! I'm leaving, goodbye."
As Xu Wenzhao walked down from the teaching building, it was class time, yet the two didn't head straight back to the classroom. Instead, Xu Nancheng stepped forward and tightly embraced Lin Menghan. "I didn't protect you well," he said, and tears began to flow again.
Lin Menghan clung to Xu Nancheng, her cheek pressed against his shoulder. "It's okay, it's okay! Please don't cry anymore!"
"But I want to cry."
"No more crying! How did you go from being a little jealous to a little crybaby all of a sudden?"
"Because I didn't protect you well!" As he spoke, his sobs grew louder, and his body shook even more.
Lin Menghan noticed this immediately and hurriedly patted his back. "I told you not to cry! If you keep crying like this, I might start crying too! Nancheng, if you cry again, I won't like you anymore." Though she said this, she held him even tighter.
"Okay, okay! No more crying!" Xu Nancheng replied obediently, his sobs indeed quieting down a bit. He couldn't bear the thought of Lin Menghan not liking him; that would be unbearable!
Lin Menghan leaned closer to Xu Nancheng's ear and whispered, "Alright! I'll always like you, Nancheng. That's my good Nancheng!"
As she spoke, she planted a quick kiss on his cheek and then pouted her lips. "Nancheng, your face is so salty!"
