Lin Menghan stood outside Xu Nancheng's door, dressed in a flowing long dress, her sparkling eyes gazing at him, giving Xu Nancheng a sense of purity. The glimpse of her ankles sparked endless imagination.
Xu Nancheng stared blankly at the girl before him, entranced by her beauty. It felt as if he had forgotten the passage of time and the reality around him; they were his entire world.
"Nancheng? Nancheng!" Lin Menghan called out repeatedly to the guy who was staring at her intently.
"Huh? What is it, Han Bao?" Xu Nancheng finally snapped back to reality at her calls.
Lin Menghan put her hands on her hips and pouted, "You should be the one telling me what's wrong!"
At that moment, Xu Nancheng looked at Lin Menghan with eyes full of admiration. He thought to himself, "Han Bao, you are so beautiful and adorable!" He felt that Lin Menghan was already his girlfriend, so expressing such feelings shouldn't be a problem, right?
But then again, Lin Menghan might get shy! Her cheeks flushed slightly as she smiled bashfully. But where was the evidence?
Xu Nancheng was taken aback. Evidence? What evidence? She was already so beautiful; how could he provide evidence? Wait! Maybe he knew what she meant!
His mind lit up with an idea. He stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Lin Menghan, pulling her head into his embrace. She was startled for a moment but quickly reacted, softly asking, "Nancheng, what are you doing?"
Xu Nancheng leaned in closer to her cheek and whispered gently, "Giving Han Bao evidence."
Upon hearing this, Lin Menghan's lips curled into a smile. This was the reaction she had been hoping for from Xu Nancheng. To her surprise, this sometimes oblivious guy really understood.
Without further ado, Xu Nancheng kissed her rosy cheek.
He lingered there for quite a while, reluctant to let go. After all, Lin Menghan was just too fragrant and soft; he didn’t want to release her at all.
Lin Menghan felt the same way; she didn’t want to part from Xu Nancheng either. However, if this continued, they would miss their plans for the day. She patted Xu Nancheng's back and said, "Alright now, Nancheng, let go! We can kiss more tonight, okay?"
They could have spent the day in Guangcheng and Ying Cheng together, but they planned to ride the Ferris wheel and watch the sunset instead. That would take up time and cause them to miss the last train home. They would have to stay overnight in Guangcheng.
So that evening, there would be no one to restrain them except for morals and laws.
"Okay!" Xu Nancheng reluctantly released his hold on her but wore an excited expression; he was looking forward to that night.
Seeing his eagerness, Lin Menghan took a few steps back and warned him playfully, "You better not get too carried away!"
Xu Nancheng understood what she meant and quickly waved his hands. "Han Bao, I won’t! You have to trust me! I'm a good kid who follows the rules."
Seeing his earnest expression reassured Lin Menghan. "Alright then! I trust you most of all, Nancheng! We should get going; they’re probably waiting for us."
"Great! Let’s go!" Since their destination wasn’t far and they didn’t need to bring anything heavy with them, he scooped Lin Menghan up in his arms and dashed toward the door.
Lin Menghan gasped in surprise and began patting his shoulder. "Nancheng! Put me down! The door isn’t closed!"
As they reached outside, Lin Menghan finally noticed that the door was indeed wide open—her savior had arrived!
Xu Nancheng paused for a moment, gently setting Lin Menghan down before rushing to close the door. As he shut it, a twitch at the corner of his mouth revealed his thoughts: one day, he would smash this wretched door!
Arriving at the bus station, several people were already waiting there. Wang Xinyue, standing to the right of Xu Dong, had her hands on her hips as she looked at the two running towards them. "Lin Menghan, you're late!"
Lin Menghan immediately softened, wrapping her arms around Wang Xinyue in a playful manner. "Oh come on, I got held up! Don’t be mad, my dear!"
Xu Nancheng watched them from the side, rubbing his nose and thinking how nice it would be if Han Bao could act like that towards him.
"Nancheng, this must be your first time being late, right?" Xu Dong said with a smirk, interrupting Xu Nancheng's thoughts.
Xu Nancheng knew why he was late, but such matters couldn’t be spoken aloud. Just as he was about to come up with an excuse, the bus slowly approached. "Alright, alright! The bus is here; let’s go!" He certainly didn’t want them guessing that he had been mesmerized by Lin Menghan this morning.
Xu Dong felt snubbed and waved his hand, signaling everyone to follow as he hurried onto the bus.
The journey from Ying Cheng to Guangcheng took nearly an hour since there were no highways—only provincial roads.
Xu Nancheng and Lin Menghan sat together while Wang Xinyue insisted on sitting next to Xu Dong, claiming it was lonely to be alone. Chen Yi was indeed that lonely person.
Chen Yi, feeling excluded, simply laid back and fell asleep—this was the most straightforward way to traverse time and space; one moment you were awake, and the next you could find yourself an hour ahead.
Wang Xinyue sat by the window, continuously describing how beautiful the scenery outside was to Xu Dong. He didn’t refuse her chatter and listened patiently as she excitedly spoke about their passage through Lingjiang, practically clinging to his arm in excitement. This left Xu Dong, who had never been close to a girl before, feeling quite flustered.
Meanwhile, Lin Menghan preferred silence during the ride. She wore wired headphones and closed her eyes while listening to music, occasionally nodding her head along with the rhythm. Xu Nancheng gazed out of the window but found his thoughts lingering on Lin Menghan.
After just over ten minutes, Xu Nancheng couldn’t take it anymore. It used to feel nice being alone, but now he found it unbearable. He turned to Lin Menghan and lightly tapped her arm. "What are you listening to?"
Feeling the touch on her arm, she slowly opened her eyes. "Nancheng, do you want to listen?"
With a hint of joy, Xu Nancheng nodded eagerly. "Hehe, listening to music with someone I like must be so romantic!"
Lin Menghan brushed aside a few strands of hair and removed one earbud from her right ear. She reached over to Xu Nancheng's ear and said, "Here, let me put this on for you."
Xu Nancheng sat quietly without moving or making a sound as he waited for Lin Menghan to place the earbud in his ear.
As she gently touched his ear, both Xu Nancheng and Lin Menghan felt a rush of warmth; his ears were definitely turning red. After placing the earbud in his ear properly, she withdrew her hand.
The sweet melody began to play through the earbuds.
"You are the star that accidentally caught my eye,
A light that fell from the night sky into my embrace."
