The next morning, the sunlight streamed through the window onto Jian Chen's bed. He rubbed his sleepy eyes, trying to dispel the worries from the night before. He knew that no matter how complicated his feelings were, life had to go on. When Jian Chen arrived at the cafeteria, Li Li was already there, and the two exchanged a smile. Xu Yi and Yao Lu walked into the cafeteria together. The place was bustling with noise, and they chose a relatively quiet corner to sit down.
Yao Lu was chatting with Xu Yi while getting food. "What are you going to eat today, Xu Yi?" Yao Lu asked while picking out dishes.
Xu Yi hesitated as she looked at the various dishes in front of her. "I don't know, my appetite hasn't been great lately."
Yao Lu put down her plate, pulled Xu Yi to sit at the table, and looked at her with concern. "What's wrong? Are you tired recently? Or is there something on your mind?"
Xu Yi let out a sigh and looked at Yao Lu, saying, "It's nothing, just feeling a bit troubled."
Yao Lu could tell that Xu Yi didn't want to say more, so he didn't continue to ask, but instead said, "Let's have something light to eat first, maybe it will help to ease your mind. I'll help you choose a few dishes."
Xu Yi nodded and watched Yao Lu bustling about, feeling a warm surge in his heart.
She knew that no matter what difficulties she encountered, having a friend like Yao Lu by her side was her good fortune. Li Li lifted her head and saw Jian Chen's warm and sincere smile, which slightly eased her worries. Jian Chen nodded, trying to make his voice sound relaxed and sincere: "Today, I have a suggestion. You can go help Xu Yi with the meal, maybe you can take this opportunity to chat with her more and see if you can help her with anything."
Li Li Upon hearing this, a hint of excitement flashed in her eyes: "Really? Can I do it?"
Jian Chen nodded with a smile: "Of course you can. I think you are a good person, and Xu Yi is not difficult to approach. When you go to serve the meal, try to chat with her about light topics and see if she is willing to share more."
Li Li took a deep breath, gathered her courage, and nodded: "Okay, I'll give it a try. Thank you, Jian Chen."
Jian Chen patted Li Li's shoulder and encouraged, "Go on, I believe in you."
So, Li Li stood up and walked towards the food ordering area, feeling both excited and nervous.
The crowd in the food ordering area surged, various aromas intertwined. Li Li stood in line, feeling as if he were in another world, with only Xu Yi's figure in his mind.
He imagined the scene of talking to Xu Yi, thinking about how to start the conversation without making it awkward. Finally, it was his turn. Li Li quickly picked a few light dishes, then walked to Xu Yi and Yao Lu's table with the tray in hand. His heart was beating fast, as if it was about to jump out of his chest.
"Hi, Xu Yi, I brought your meal for you," Li Li tried to make her voice sound natural as she placed the tray in front of Xu Yi.
Xu Yi looked up and saw Li Li, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes, then turned into a faint smile. "Ah, it's you."
Yao Lu also looked at Li Li and joked, "Oh, our classmate Li Li is quite thoughtful."
Li Li scratched his head somewhat awkwardly and sat across from Xu Yi: "It's nothing, just thanking Xu Yi for his contribution to the project."
During the meal that followed, Li Li made an effort to find topics to talk about and chatted with Xu Yi about things outside of the project.
He tried to avoid emotional topics and only talked about lighthearted and pleasant things. Xu Yi gradually let go of his guard and had a very enjoyable conversation with Li Li.
She found that Li Li is actually a very humorous and interesting person, and very attentive, always able to notice her little emotions. After the meal, Li Li and Xu Yi cleaned up the tableware together, and their relationship seemed to have taken a step closer. Meanwhile, Jian Chen was silently watching them from a distance.
