"I feel like I've come back to life; this is so incredible," Lan Ruo Yi said, looking at Liu Ru Yan with a hint of relief. She had already lost hope and was contemplating escape through death.
"Right? But this is just too miraculous! We didn't die, and we ended up here?" Liu Ru Yan gazed at the buildings and the scenery around them, her mind racing back to the scene from last night when Sister Na left, and then she suddenly thought of something. "Why didn’t they bring Sister Na and Jiang Zong to the meeting yesterday?"
Lan Ruo Yi seemed to remember something as she abruptly stood up. "What day is it today?"
"What day could it be? It's December 26th!" Liu Ru Yan replied, puzzled by Lan Ruo Yi's question but obediently answering nonetheless.
"Are you out of your mind? Think carefully about what happened on December 26th in our past life!" Lan Ruo Yi urged Liu Ru Yan, exasperated that her friend wasn't connecting the dots.
"Wait, what? No way!" Liu Ru Yan's eyes widened as she struggled to swallow her disbelief.
"Well, we'll find out when we go to work today," Lan Ruo Yi said, squinting her eyes. Hearing this, Liu Ru Yan stopped overthinking it but still felt an inexplicable excitement bubbling within her. Their conversation trailed off as they realized there were more pressing matters at hand, quickly tidying themselves up before heading to the office.
Liu Ru Yan's home was only a ten-minute walk from the company, and having just finished breakfast, it was a perfect time for a stroll to aid digestion. Using a teleportation technique early in the morning would not be advisable. Although the sun had risen on this winter morning, both Liu Ru Yan and Lan Ruo Yi bundled up tightly against the chill.
Liu Ru Yan wore a gray coat paired with black knee-high boots, topped off with a black beret and a blue scarf, giving her an air of cool mystery. In contrast, Lan Ruo Yi donned a black coat with black jeans, complemented by a fuzzy gray hat and a pink scarf that made her seem unapproachable. Under the sunlight, their styles harmonized beautifully as they walked hand in hand—two stunning women whose animated chatter could only be heard up close.
A man trailing behind them subtly twitched his lips before making his way toward a nearby black car, standing respectfully beside it while waiting for orders from within. The window slowly rolled down to reveal an aristocratic profile: sharp jawline, full lips, and a prominent nose that all exuded an aura of nobility.
"Boss, the young ladies and Miss Lan haven't recalled anything yet. They were at their company yesterday, but only Miss Lan and her current superior left," the man reported as he leaned closer to the window while maintaining a respectful distance.
At that moment, Liu Ru Yan turned sharply and noticed the car parked not far from them along with the man standing beside it. She caught the gaze of someone inside who was watching them intently.
"Continue to follow and protect Miss," came the command from inside the car before the window rolled back up. The driver let out a quiet sigh of relief upon hearing this. The man chuckled softly: "What's wrong? Did A Yan scare you?"
"Boss, that lady's gaze was terrifying! And she hasn't even remembered anything yet; if she does, I'm afraid she'll whip me! You have to protect me!" The driver exclaimed.
Hearing this made the man laugh again. "Just remember to come find me when that happens."
Liu Ru Yan glanced back before turning away again, a sharp glint in her eyes: 'There was definitely a car following us just now; why does it look so familiar?'
Lan Ruo Yi chose to ignore what Liu Ru Yan said but pretended not to notice as she casually turned back after three seconds. She saw a vehicle pass by with its rear window half-opened, revealing the same aristocratic profile engrossed in reading a newspaper. Liu Ru Yan felt he looked familiar too while Lan Ruo Yi gasped in surprise. 'Wow! Handsome guy! Definitely handsome!' Her excited gaze fixated on the car.
'That car is definitely watching us,' Liu Ru Yan thought but didn’t want Lan Ruo Yi to get distracted by handsome men again.
'Why would they be staring at us?' Lan Ruo Yi asked in confusion; they were just ordinary office workers—why would anyone pay such close attention?
"I don't have time to explain," Liu Ru Yan rolled her eyes at her sister who always forgot their purpose whenever she saw a handsome guy. There was no other option but to eliminate all possibilities.
"Let's hurry; I'm freezing!" Liu Ru Yan pulled Lan Ruo Yi along as they jogged toward the company. The man in the car watched them run off with amusement and muttered under his breath: "Style over warmth."
"What did you say?" The driver in front asked after catching part of his boss's comment but not quite understanding it.
Liu Yuchuan’s smile faded instantly: "Mind your own business." He raised the partition between them and the backseat passengers, preferring not to deal with his driver's curiosity.
Meanwhile, Liu Er followed closely behind Liu Ru Yan at a distance that was neither too far nor too close—enough to keep an eye on her without drawing attention.
Once inside the company, Liu Ru Yan and Lan Ruo Yi quickly settled down at their desks while discreetly scanning their surroundings for their target.
"What are you two sneaking around for?" A cautious voice interrupted them from between their chairs, startling both women into jumping up from their seats.
They turned to see Bai Juan popping up unexpectedly from behind them, still catching their breath from shock.
"What on earth!" Liu Ru Yan exclaimed.
"What were you two looking at? Spill it! I want in on whatever gossip you have!" Bai Juan boldly plopped herself down between them without caring about what had just happened.
"What were we looking at? Nothing at all!" Lan Ruo Yi replied defensively; she was still recovering from being startled and had no mood for chit-chat.
"I saw everything! You two have been sneakily watching the entrance since you got here! What’s going on? Is there some juicy gossip I don’t know about?" Bai Juan's eyes sparkled with curiosity like a wolf spotting prey—eager to pounce on any tidbit of information.
Lan Ruo Yi laughed: "You think I wouldn’t share any gossip if I had some?"
Just then, Zhang Baofeng passed by with a cup of water in hand and paused upon hearing 'gossip.' He looked at the three women curiously: "What gossip?"
