"Wu Rong is actually the one pursuing someone? Is the sun rising from the west today? Oh, I get it! Is it because when a guy chases a girl, the girl gets more face? My wife does that too, always pushing me to make our relationship public, even though it was her who chased me in the first place. Hahaha!"
Zhan Ruoyang, wanting to ease Rao Jie's embarrassment, nudged Wu Rong and said, "Come on, spill the truth! The people want to know!"
Wu Rong nodded.
The people around him looked at Wu Rong in surprise.
Ye Ming smirked and asked, "Brother Rong, what does that nod mean? Are you agreeing with me or with Old Chen?"
Wu Rong lifted his head and looked at Rao Jie. "I was the one who noticed her first and pursued her."
With that declaration, laughter erupted around them, disbelief written on their faces.
One female classmate's expression darkened even further. She had been the class flower and a top student; although she couldn't quite match Wu Rong's brilliance, she was still talented and beautiful. Back then, they had been seated next to each other, but Wu Rong had completely ignored her advances, leaving her quite troubled for a while.
When news came that Wu Rong had been accepted into Harvard early, she let go of her feelings for him. After several years of twists and turns, she found herself single again. Hearing that Wu Rong was back and still single sparked hopes among those around her to play matchmaker.
But she never expected that he would show up with a girlfriend so soon.
It would be impossible for her not to feel a sting in her heart; after all, she had initially harbored hopes. She wasn't being vain—she was genuinely beautiful and had a job that made others envious. If her love life hadn't worked out, it was because she deemed others unworthy of her affection. Yet Wu Rong remained the star she gazed at from afar, an unattainable existence.
After friends suggested setting them up again, she had already begun to fantasize about a beautiful reunion. But that fantasy had come crashing down from the very start.
"What do you like about her? Tell us! What made this genius lose his heart? I heard you've been single all this time; could this be your first love?"
Now Wu Rong didn’t need anyone to remind him of anything. He had just seen Rao Jie’s cheeks flush beautifully when he publicly acknowledged her as his partner. Her gaze was deep and shy as she looked at him—such an enchanting expression was something he usually only saw in private moments.
Wu Rong reveled in this side of Rao Jie. It felt like he had gained an alternative sense of satisfaction, as if declaring to everyone that Rao Jie belonged to him. He felt joy radiating from within and began to unabashedly flaunt his happiness.
"I just really like her, everything about her. I've been single for so long, and I never expected to meet her. If I had known I would be attracted to her, I would have gotten to know her sooner. That way, I wouldn't have had to be single for so many years."
Looking at Wu Rong, who seemed to be enjoying the couple's life, the people around were almost startled awake from their drunkenness. Was this really the aloof Wu Rong? Rao Jie felt a bit shy from Wu Rong's words and couldn't help but reach out to tug at his hand, urging him to stop talking.
"With such a good relationship, when are you getting married? If you get married in Yun Cheng, you must let us know!" someone exclaimed with congratulations.
"Yeah, how long have you been dating? Just recently, weren't you saying you were single? But it doesn't matter; there are many people who get married in a flash these days. Wu Rong, you need to seize the opportunity! My child has already been born," another chimed in.
Wu Rong raised an eyebrow and looked at Rao Jie, who was holding his hand tightly. Suddenly, he smiled and said, "We've already moved in together; we're just waiting for her to have some free time. When are we going to get our marriage certificate?"
The crowd gasped in surprise once again.
