"What good is it to be clever with him? Your man didn't even leave you an address, so what are you searching for? Maybe he's out there with a mistress, has a bunch of kids, and doesn't want you anymore." Jiao Hongzhu scoffed suddenly.
To everyone's surprise, Qian Qian burst into tears after hearing this. "You're lying! My dad would never find a mistress or abandon us. I want my daddy! I want my daddy!"
Qian Qian was always thinking about seeing her father and often looked at his photo. Now, being told that he didn't want her anymore was unbearable, and she cried heart-wrenchingly.
"Qian Qian, don't cry! Don't listen to what others say. Daddy loves you the most; how could he bear to abandon you?" Su Mingxian felt heartbroken and quickly hugged her to comfort her.
Seeing this, Jiao Hongzhu looked disdainful. "Hmph, you're just fooling a child. If he really cared about his daughter, would he have left without an address? It's clear he doesn't take you seriously."
"Shut your mouth! A dog can't spit out ivory. If you don't speak, no one will treat you like a mute." Su Mingxian's gaze was icy, as if it could freeze someone to death. Children are innocent; they believe whatever you say.
But Jiao Hongzhu became even more animated, her voice loud. "Why should I shut up? What have I said wrong? You're so annoying; no wonder your man left you. Hmph, a discarded woman acting so arrogant—just because you made a few hundred bucks on the train? What's so impressive about that? I've got plenty of money; I wouldn't even look at you."
Everyone was stunned by her words—selling food could make that much money? Meanwhile, those with ulterior motives perked up, spotting two big fat sheep.
Su Mingxian's face darkened instantly. She stood up and yanked Jiao Hongzhu down from the upper bunk. "Why should I let you talk like that? You idiot! A brain is a good thing; you should have one."
Everything happened too suddenly. Before Jiao Hongzhu could react, she found herself suspended in mid-air, panicking and screaming.
"Ah! What are you doing? Help! Help!"
Inside the police station, Jiao Hongzhu was crying, her face streaked with tears and snot. "She started it, Officer! You have to stand up for me."
"Su Mingxian, why did you hit her?" the Police Officer asked with a serious expression.
Su Mingxian held onto two children and replied coldly, "Because she has a big mouth—"
The Police Officer was taken aback by her directness.
Jiao Hongzhu, hearing this, became furious. "You—you're such a shrew! No wonder your man left you; you deserve it."
As soon as she said that, Qian Qian pushed her away. "You're bad! You're a bad person! My daddy would never leave me; Mommy says Daddy loves me the most."
Su Mingxian's expression changed slightly. "Qian Qian."
The little girl seemed to realize she had said something wrong and looked up at her with tear-filled eyes. "Mommy, I miss Daddy. I want Daddy. Wuu—"
At this point, the officer didn’t need to ask why Jiao Hongzhu got hit; with a mouth like that, who wouldn’t want to smack her?
Besides, Su Mingxian hadn’t really hurt her; in a moment of anger, she had just pulled her down from the upper bunk. No one was injured, and everyone had made mistakes; they could just take a step back and let it go.
However, Su Mingxian had no intention of admitting fault. What was there to admit?
If she acknowledged any wrongdoing, she'd have to return to the Sleeper Car. In such chaotic times, with Jiao Hongzhu shouting so loudly, she didn’t even know how many eyes were watching her.
She decided to just hang out in the police station since the train was about to arrive anyway.
