Unfortunately, human plans cannot compare to those of fate. Su Mingxian managed to evade the thief on the train, but not the one outside the station.
“Stop! Thief!”
As soon as the words left her mouth, a basket came flying through the air, hitting the thief squarely on the head. Wang Daguo took advantage of the moment to pin him down to the ground.
“I didn’t steal any money! Why are you arresting me?”
Su Mingxian, holding a child, rushed over and kicked him, “If you didn’t steal any money, then why did you run?”
She then began to search him. The thief in the yellow shirt flashed a smug look in his eyes. “Sister, I told you I didn’t steal anything, you—”
Before he could finish his sentence, Su Mingxian lifted him off the ground. “Tell me where the money went! You better have your accomplice bring it here quickly, or I’ll strip you and let you experience what it’s like to run naked at a train station.”
With that, she reached for his pants. The Yellow-Clothed Thief didn’t expect her to be serious and immediately panicked. “No, please don’t—”
He was supposed to be a big shot; if he really ended up running around naked, how could he ever show his face again?
“Rat! Rat!”
With his desperate shout, a figure suddenly appeared from nowhere, and in front of Su Mingxian lay a wad of cash—entirely made up of fifty-cent coins.
The Yellow-Clothed Thief thought he could finally escape her grasp, but to his dismay, Su Mingxian picked up the money without even glancing at it. “Not enough; you’re short fifty.”
“That's nonsense, it’s clearly just this!” the Yellow-Clothed Thief exclaimed, jumping up in frustration.
But Su Mingxian, with a cold expression, tugged at his collar and said, “If I say it’s not enough, then it’s not enough.”
After saying that, she reached for his pants again. The Yellow-Clothed Thief clutched his waistband tightly, nearly in tears. “No, please! I’ll give it to you! Isn’t that enough?”
He rummaged through several pockets, finally pulling out a few coins with a pained expression. “Sister, this is all I have. Not a cent more. Can you please show some mercy—”
Su Mingxian quickly took the money. The Yellow-Clothed Thief let out a huge sigh of relief, thinking he had finally escaped from this female demon. But then—
“Police Officer, here’s a little thief who stole money from me. I caught him red-handed.”
The Yellow-Clothed Thief: ...
Jiao Hongzhu, who had been robbed and was now questioning life: ...
The Police Officer handling cases on the train: ... Not you again?

The air at the Shanghai was fresh and invigorating, with shops lining both sides of the road and crowds bustling about. Tea houses and Western restaurants dotted the streets; while they didn’t compare to later times, they were already showing signs of prosperity.
The two youngsters were dazzled by the sights, while Su Mingxian wore a constant smile of delight. Wang Daguo was especially excited; catching bad guys felt exhilarating to him, and he wished he could do it all over again. As a result, he became even more attentive and enthusiastic towards Su Mingxian.
"Sister Xian, once we cross this road, we'll reach Changfu Lane. I have a cousin who works at the Street Women's Federation there; I'm sure she can help us out," said Wang Daguo.
Su Mingxian nodded. "Thank you for the trouble."
Wang Daguo excitedly scratched her head. "It's nothing, just a small matter."
Before long, they arrived at the entrance of the alley. At first glance, the narrow lane appeared chaotic, with uneven ground and doorways cluttered with various items. Looking up, one could see a tangled web of electrical wires and haphazardly hung clotheslines.
Describing this place as dirty and messy was an understatement, but it was a characteristic feature of the era.
Several elderly people were sitting at the entrance, enjoying the cool breeze. Those who recognized Wang Daguo greeted her warmly. Wang Daguo's cousin was also a kind-hearted person; she personally escorted them to the Ruan Family's front gate, attracting quite a few curious onlookers along the way.
"Grandma Ruan, is anyone home? We have relatives visiting!"
