"Really... is it true?" Li Qiang could hardly believe it. After all, Zhang Xuemei had never been fond of him before, yet now she was inviting him. Although her words weren't overly direct, even a fool could understand the implication.
Seeing the joy on Li Qiang's face, Zhang Xuemei felt even happier. Look at how eager he was; he might still be a novice. "Of course it's true. Aunt is a doctor, and it's only right to help you get better so you don't end up in this situation again. You should know, you nearly scared Aunt Yu Feng to death."
Aunt Yu Feng?! Yes, Aunt Yu Feng was still outside!
"Alright then, Aunt, I'll see if I can recover by tonight. If I do, can I come find you?" Li Qiang had never tasted meat before, so he was naturally anxious.
Zhang Xuemei playfully rolled her eyes at him and said, "Look at you being so impatient. But you're in luck; my husband isn't home these days. Just come over when it gets dark."
Li Qiang nodded excitedly. With that nod, he suddenly felt all his strength returning, and most importantly, he regained feeling below. He couldn't understand why and didn't care to figure it out; it was just a good thing.
He quickly got up and grinned, his hands mischievously reaching for Zhang Xuemei's ample chest. "Hey, Aunt, you've got quite the bounce here! I want to have some fun with you right now!"
"You little rascal, why are you so eager? Wait until tonight!" Zhang Xuemei glanced towards the outside and swatted Li Qiang's hand away. "Aunt Yu Feng is still out there; you mustn't let her find out!"
Li Qiang thought her warning made sense. Since Zhang Xuemei had already agreed, he decided not to push his luck further. However, he still wanted to test his ability to see through things.
This time he aimed to see what was under Zhang Xuemei's red bra. But just as he thought about it, everything went black for a moment. He stumbled and would have fallen if not for Zhang Xuemei catching him.
"What happened to you?" Zhang Xuemei frowned and asked, feeling worried. This kid couldn't possibly be all show and no substance; she hoped he wouldn't end up in trouble without getting what he wanted.
"I'm fine! I might just need a little time to adjust. I'll take a nap when I get back," Li Qiang said as he walked outside. He was puzzled about why he could see earlier but couldn't see deeper now. Was there a limit to this ability?
Zhang Xuemei watched Li Qiang's retreating figure and hesitated before following him out. It was worth a try; if it really was something special, she would have struck gold.
"Xiao Qiang, how are you feeling now? Do you feel any better?"
As soon as Li Qiang stepped out of the inner room, Li Yufeng, who had been anxiously pacing in the outer room, rushed up to him with a concerned expression.
“Aunt, I’m fine! Really!” Li Qiang said with a smile, feeling quite touched inside.
He was an orphan, having lost his parents at a young age, and it was Li Yufeng who had raised him. Although they were not related by blood, the bond between them was just as strong as that of family.
“Are you really okay? Don’t try to fool me!” Li Yufeng clearly found his words hard to believe and turned to Zhang Xuemei for confirmation.
“Little Qiang is really fine; there’s nothing serious. No need to worry!” Zhang Xuemei said with her eyes narrowed.
Hearing this, Li Yufeng finally relaxed her tense heart. “Xue Mei, how much do I owe you? I came in such a hurry that I didn’t bring any money. Just tell me how much it is, and I’ll pay you back later.”
Zhang Xuemei chuckled; she initially intended not to charge anything. However, after glancing at Li Qiang, she worried he might not come back to pay. So she said, “Just ten yuan will do. You can have Little Qiang bring it over later tonight. That way, I can check if he’s completely recovered.”
Upon hearing this, Li Qiang thought to himself that this woman was quite shameless, fearing he wouldn’t come back. Damn it! He smirked inwardly, remembering how she used to look down on him. This time, he would show her what he was made of and see if she would still be so haughty afterward.
“Okay then, thank you, Aunt Xuemei!”
After leaving the clinic with Li Yufeng, they headed straight home.
The lunch that Li Yufeng had cooked earlier was now cold, but in this sweltering heat, cold food was more appetizing. Li Qiang ate heartily while Li Yufeng frowned slightly, clearly lost in thought. Having been widowed for many years without children of her own, she regarded Li Qiang as her son. However, he often caused her worry.
Now this—getting into the clinic because of such an incident—made her feel embarrassed just thinking about it. She had considered talking to Li Qiang before but had never found the courage. Yet today’s events forced her to take it seriously.
She put down her chopsticks and looked at Li Qiang. “Little Qiang, I want to talk to you!”
Li Qiang was enjoying his meal and didn’t quite understand why he felt so ravenous lately; no matter how much he ate, he never seemed satisfied. Hearing Li Yufeng’s words, he nodded while chewing his food.
"Aunt, I know you're aware that I'm going through puberty and that I have desires for girls, but... but such matters should be approached with moderation, you understand?" Li Yufeng's face flushed, feeling a bit embarrassed. After all, it was somewhat awkward for a long-suffering widow to discuss this with a young boy.
Li Qiang chuckled awkwardly, putting down his bowl and scratching his nose. "Aunt, I understand! I'll be more careful from now on!"
Seeing him acknowledge his mistake, Li Yufeng felt there was no need to say more. She picked up a piece of meat and placed it in Li Qiang's bowl. "Eat more meat, and make sure to rest well afterward!"
"Okay!" Li Qiang replied enthusiastically, diving back into his meal.
After finishing lunch, Li Qiang didn’t take a nap at home but headed over to the Gourd Shed to sleep instead. With the holidays upon them, he worried about those mischievous kids in the village ruining the watermelons.
The watermelons weren’t ripe yet, and those little brats didn’t know the difference between ripe and unripe; they just thought it would be fun to mess around with them. He couldn’t let them ruin the fruits of his and Aunt Yu Feng’s labor.
Aunt Yu Feng was a woman without a job, so their livelihood depended entirely on their crops.
After letting out a satisfied burp, Li Qiang looked at the lush Gourd Field and felt elated. The watermelons were growing well; he was sure they would soon be ready to sell.
He walked into the field and spotted a watermelon, smiling as he touched it. This was money right here!
He patted about ten watermelons before he could no longer bear the scorching sun and retreated into the Gourd Shed.
Lying comfortably on the cool bed after a hearty meal, he couldn't help but think of his romantic interests. Just the thought of spending time with Zhang Xuemei sent a rush of excitement through him...
