Yuan Kai's enthusiasm and thoughtfulness made me feel valued.
Our eyes accidentally met in the dim candlelight.
Then, I watched as he slowly leaned closer, his handsome face gradually filling my vision.
My heart began to race, and my breathing quickened.
His gaze was intense, making me unable to resist sinking into it.
Under his stare, my cheeks flushed, and I shyly lowered my head.
He continued to look at me, suddenly drawing nearer.
I felt his breath brush against my face, causing my heart to beat even faster.
I slowly closed my eyes, savoring his closeness.
His lips met mine, soft and comforting.
I sensed his carefulness.
I began to respond to him, and his kiss grew more passionate, nearly taking my breath away.
I struggled, and only then did he release me.
I gasped for air, my face burning with embarrassment.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
Yuan Kai reluctantly let go of me and went to open the door.
I watched his back, feeling shy inside.
"Who is it?" he asked with a hint of irritation in his voice.
"It's me."
A familiar voice came through, leaving both Yuan Kai and me stunned.
"Qiu Qinrui?" I looked at him, a mix of emotions swirling in my heart.
He came? Yuan Kai looked at Qiu Qinrui, surprise evident in his eyes.
Holding a food box, Qiu Qinrui stood outside the door, his gaze shifting back and forth between me and Yuan Kai. Finally, his eyes settled on my lips. They were slightly swollen from the kiss we had just shared.
His expression darkened instantly. "Who is he?"
He glared at Yuan Kai, anger radiating from him.
"I am Mu Chun's fiancé, and we will be married soon," Yuan Kai replied, unflinching under Qiu Qinrui's stare.
Qiu Qinrui's face grew even darker upon hearing this. He looked at me in disbelief, his voice laced with fury. "Mu Chun, how long has it been since our divorce? You've already found someone else?"
His words ignited a fire within me. "Qiu Qinrui, what right do you have to judge me? Everything you did with Mu Shu was utterly disgusting!"
"At least I never did anything to betray you!" He looked at me urgently. "We have years of history together, and Qi'er —he is your child. Can you bear to see him grow up without a mother?"
"I know I wronged you, but I'm willing to make amends. I don't mind you being with this man."
"Can we go back to how things were?"
I couldn't help but laugh at his words. "Qiu Qinrui, don't you find that ridiculous?"
"Who was it that chose divorce in the first place?"
"Now you say we can reconcile just like that. Do you think I am Mu Chun?"
" Qi'er is indeed innocent, but ask yourself, do you want to reconcile for Qi'er or for yourself?"
He fell silent for a moment before speaking again, "After leaving you, I realized that without you, the household has become a mess. I know I have wronged you, and I want to make amends. Can we start over?"
Listening to his words, I felt an unexpected calmness and replied coldly, "A broken mirror cannot be made whole again. Since we are already divorced, there is no need to entangle ourselves further."
I ignored him and turned to Yuan Kai, instructing him to see him out.
"Mr. He, it's time for you to leave. I will cherish what you and your son do not."
He looked at me, his gaze filled with ice.
Qiu Qinrui ultimately left in disappointment, the food box falling to the ground and spilling its contents everywhere.
Just like the relationship between him and me, it had become utterly shattered.
A few days later, I received another letter.
