The winter break had come to an end, and everyone gradually returned to the dormitory. My roommates were busy organizing their luggage. Liu Ke timidly followed behind me and asked, "Do you have any extra clothes? Can I borrow some? My clothes are too thin, and I haven't bought any yet."
Gao Xiao replied, "Sorry, but I don't like lending out my clothes."
Shan Qingqing added, "I don't have any to lend either."
Everyone's gaze fell on me. I had a new set of thermal clothing that was very comfortable, made of silk. In my past life, I had been too soft-hearted and lent her my clothes, only to find out later that she had a skin condition and didn't mention it, which led to me getting infected as well.
"I can't lend you anything," I said firmly.
"Why not? I promise I'll return it," Liu Ke said, her eyes quickly filling with tears as she looked at me pitifully.
"I'm sensitive about my skin and afraid of getting sick; I never lend out my clothes." With that, I stuffed the clothes I was holding into my wardrobe.
"You can find affordable clothes at the market behind the school; you still have time to buy some now," I added.
Liu Ke began to act aggrieved, wiping her tears. "Zhao Wu, you're being too much! We're classmates; I'm just asking to borrow some clothes, and you say I have a skin disease."
I remained unmoved and coldly replied, "I'm just stating the facts; you don't need to spread rumors here to mislead others."
Liu Ke's face twisted in anger. As she passed by me, she rudely shoved me, causing me to bump into the corner of the table. I bent over in pain and questioned her about why she pushed me.
When I lifted my shirt to check the spot where I had been hit, it was already bruised and swollen. Liu Ke pretended not to know and feigned panic. "Oh no! I just wanted to pass by; I didn't expect you to lose your balance. Let me see!"
Seizing the opportunity, she pushed hard on the bruised area again.
I cried out in pain, "Ah! What is wrong with you? Are you looking for trouble?"
"I'm sorry; I didn't mean to do it," she said innocently.
Liu Ke spoke words of apology, yet her face bore no trace of remorse.
I clutched my waist, tears of pain welling in my eyes, and weakly asked her, "Why did you push me? Just because I didn't lend you my clothes?"
This fool actually thought I was letting her have her way because I had no choice. I simply disliked trouble.
In my past life, I had once lent her my clothes out of a moment of weakness, only for her to conceal her skin disease, which led to me suffering from skin ulcers as well.
After being reborn, I was determined never to be deceived by her feigned innocence again.
"Liu Ke, you don't have any clothes, do you?"
Liu Ke nodded heavily. "Yeah."
"Then I can sell you some."
A flicker of guilt crossed Liu Ke's eyes. "I don't have any money, Zhao Wu. Just lend me the clothes to wear."
"You want to wear new clothes without any money?"
Liu Ke was left speechless by my retort.
Seeing her twisted expression as she tried to play the victim filled me with satisfaction. In my past life, it was through repeated moments of weakness that she had left me battered and bruised.
In this life, I would not repeat the same mistakes.
Gao Xiao and Shan Qingqing exchanged glances, their expressions somewhat complicated.
"Zhao Wu, you can't be this stingy," Gao Xiao said, always eager to play the good guy. "It's just one piece; I'll lend it to you. It's not like I'm not getting it back."
Shan Qingqing nodded in agreement. "I can lend you some too."
A smug smile crept onto Liu Ke's lips. She knew that as soon as she acted pitifully, someone would rush to help her.
Liu Ke began to sow discord: "Zhao Wu, look at Xiao Xiao and Qingqing; they're so warm-hearted and generous. How could our dorm have someone as cold as you?"
