At the same time, I was calculating in my heart how to quickly appease my father. In the next moment, a spark of inspiration flashed through my mind.
I raised my voice and said, "Father, haven't you always found him bothersome? I have an idea. We have been married for quite some time but have yet to go on a trip together. The weather has been nice lately; I can take him out for a stroll. This way, we can cultivate our feelings while keeping him out of your sight."
"From now on, we will live at the estate in the west of the city. You won't have to see him or be angry with him anymore."
"And if he makes a mistake, I can teach him a lesson on your behalf."
The head of the family looked surprised and asked, "You are willing to go to the estate?"
I nodded, "Yes."
He immediately smiled, "Good. Then I will leave this useless fellow in your care. You must discipline him well."
"But remember, you can't let him die."
"If he dies, you won't have a husband to toy with anymore."
I was left speechless. I forced a smile and replied, "Father, don't worry; I'll take care of it."
The head of the family finally smiled in satisfaction, "That's good to hear."
"By the way, I also heard about the incident where you broke the whip last time."
"This time, I've prepared a soft iron whip for you; it won't break easily."
"Just have fun with it; just don't kill him."
I was at a loss for words. Last time? The whip broke, and he was still fine? What kind of system is this that came out of some celestial cave? And they expect me to make him fall in love with me?
Two days later, I brought Liu Wenxing to the estate.
The farmhouse was located in a remote part of the capital, in a state of disrepair.
After a brief tidying up, I decided to make this place my long-term residence. After all, farming suited me better than dealing with the intrigues of the household, especially when it involved working alongside my gentle husband.
Once I arrived at the farmhouse, I felt completely relaxed. I ordered the servants directly, declaring that no one was allowed to enter without summons. All matters concerning Liu Wenxing's meals and clothing were to be handled by me personally. I issued a strict decree: anyone who caused trouble would be severely punished and sold off without mercy.
Before long, everyone at the farmhouse had fled in fear. Even those who had come to help swat mosquitoes were nowhere to be found.
The summer nights were particularly sultry, and the mosquitoes swarmed, leaving red spots all over my skin. As I fanned myself, my irritation grew. "What kind of wretched place is this, with so many mosquitoes?"
Before I could finish my complaint, it suddenly dawned on me that this was the perfect opportunity for me to take action. His delicate skin would surely attract the pests.
"You, come here," I called out to Liu Wenxing.
He looked at me with a cold gaze. "Is there something you need?"
I pointed to the chair at the table. "Sit there and fan away the mosquitoes for me. I want to sleep."
Liu Wenxing: "..."
Though he seemed reluctant, he obediently sat down.
I threw the sachet filled with Mosquito Repellent Herb into his arms. "It's digging into my waist, hold onto it for me."
He looked at me with a wary expression. I cleared my throat awkwardly. "Ahem, it's still hot outside. Forget it. Seeing your thin arms and legs, you don't even have the strength to fan yourself. I might as well go back to sleep."
With that, I turned and walked away, unaware of the complex expression on his face as he watched me from behind.
I lay on the bed and sighed in relief, just about to drift off to sleep when a servant came in with dinner.
Looking at the food in the box, I couldn't help but frown. Not a single dish was properly cleaned, and the rice was so hard it could kill a dog. The char siu looked pale and unappetizing, and there was still excrement inside the intestines.
How am I supposed to eat this?
I frowned and said coldly, "Who prepared this?"
The young boy delivering the food looked innocent. "Miss Xu, you said you wanted to be frugal."
