Having just finished her final exams, the people in the dormitory gradually returned home, leaving Lin Qing alone at her computer searching for a part-time job that included food and accommodation. While others were heading home to celebrate the New Year, her winter break was dedicated to earning her living expenses for the next semester.
After a long night of searching, her head throbbed with fatigue. She decided to check out The Edge of Heaven for some gossip news. One post caught her attention: “Looking to rent a girlfriend to take home for the New Year, 500 a day.”
Lin Qing nearly spat out the water she had just sipped, thinking the poster was quite ridiculous. As she scrolled down, she found a variety of comments, most of which accused him of being a scammer. The exhausted poster left his contact information and added, “No inappropriate behavior; food and accommodation included, as well as covering phone bills and travel expenses.”
Seeing the mention of food and accommodation made Lin Qing’s eyes light up—this was exactly the job she was looking for! When asked why she didn’t think he was a scammer, she confidently replied, “The phone number is registered under my name. I’ve already sent your number to my roommate; if anything goes wrong, you can’t escape.”
When she called, a polite young man answered. Lin Qing got straight to the point.
They arranged to meet at Starbucks, and Lin Qing considered this her interview. Before leaving, she tidied herself up and changed into a lighter fitted coat. As the cold northern wind whipped around her, she regretted her choice—Beijing was freezing at minus ten degrees.
Finally arriving at Starbucks, all she could do was shiver. Normally, sipping on a hot coffee would be perfect in this weather, but glancing at the menu made her decide to wait.
About ten minutes later, her phone buzzed—he had arrived.
Lin Qing’s first impression of Mo Feng was that he looked like a wealthy young master. The well-tailored new Diablo outfit accentuated his tall and slender figure, while the Omega watch on his wrist practically blinded her with its shine. She hadn’t expected him to be such a catch!
Mo Feng ordered a mocha and turned to ask what she wanted. Lin Qing simply replied that she would have the same.
Things progressed surprisingly smoothly from there. He brought out a contract for her to sign. Her role was to act as his girlfriend during the New Year period, but her responsibilities were limited to holding hands and hugging.
As soon as they finished signing the contract, he stood up and said he needed to head back home right away.
Lin Qing's eyes widened in surprise. "Huh? I didn't have time to pack my clothes and things."
He furrowed his brows and replied, "You buy them, and I'll reimburse you." Then he added, "I'm sorry, my grandmother is not doing well. She's always wanted me to settle down, so I had to resort to this..."
Her heart softened, and she followed him into the car.
At that moment, snow began to fall outside, and the highway was unusually quiet. Lin Qing was so tired that she leaned back in her seat and fell asleep.
When she woke up, she found herself surrounded by his family. Since she wasn't really his girlfriend, she felt no pressure and happily greeted everyone with a smile.
As soon as they entered the house, he took her hand. Since they were just putting on an act, Lin Qing accepted it without resistance, allowing the warmth of his palm to envelop her hand.
The Mo family grandmother was indeed gravely ill, lying there unable to articulate her thoughts. For a moment, Lin Qing thought of her late grandmother.
To avoid raising suspicion among the family, they shared a room—she slept on the bed while he slept on the floor.
The next morning, he really did come back with a pile of clothes that matched her size.
She wanted to say that she'd pay him back for these later, but when she saw the Chanel label, she felt utterly deflated. There was no way she could repay him for this! Forget it; she'd just wear one piece and have him return the rest later.
