The next day, Mother Mo placed a jade bracelet adorned with emeralds on Lin Qing's wrist. She glanced at Mo Feng, who smiled and encouraged her to keep it, so she reluctantly accepted.
Having received a gift, Lin Qing felt she couldn't just take something for nothing; she needed to contribute in some way. Thus, she visited Mo Family Grandmother every day to help stimulate her circulation, give her massages, and share amusing stories.
To her surprise, Mo Family Grandmother's health began to improve. The snow outside had completely melted, and the sun shone brightly. Mo Feng carried his grandmother to the wheelchair to bask in the sunlight.
As usual, Lin Qing helped massage her legs. Mo Family Grandmother held her hand and couldn't stop praising her. By evening, she even expressed a desire for dumplings. Mother Mo was delighted; this was all thanks to her future daughter-in-law's efforts.
When it was just the two of them left in the evening, Mo Feng said thank you.
Lin Qing smiled and replied, "This is all part of the contract; I can't take such a high salary without doing my job."
"I'm curious how you learned those techniques," he remarked, noting that even professional doctors had commented on how much better the old lady was doing.
"My grandmother taught me," Lin Qing explained. Her grandmother had been an Old Chinese Medicine Doctor in her youth. After her parents divorced and remarried, she had lived with her grandmother and learned many techniques during that time. Unfortunately, when it came time for the college entrance exam, her grandmother passed away unexpectedly, leaving Lin Qing without a chance to repay her kindness.
Noticing that she seemed a bit downcast, Mo Feng suddenly changed the subject. "I'm a little hungry; would you like to go out for something to eat?"
Lin Qing nodded eagerly.
The car stopped in front of a Fish Soup Restaurant. She followed Mo Feng upstairs, where the decor was simple but bustling with patrons. Mo Feng ordered a pot of fish soup and handed her a bowl. Lin Qing drank it all in one go and licked her lips, exclaiming how delicious it was.
After finishing one bowl of soup, Mo Feng stood up to get another. Seeing him fill the bowl too full, Lin Qing quickly warned him to be careful not to burn himself. The white steam rose up, enveloping her fair face in a misty haze. Mo Feng thought that this girl he had inadvertently invited was quite pleasant to look at.
He trembled slightly, and the milky soup splashed out of the bowl, leaving a mark on his pure black suit. Lin Qing happened to have a tissue in her hand and quickly wiped it off.
The Mo family had planted some roses in their yard. After the heavy snow last time, some branches had broken off, and Mother Mo was busy moving the roses to a sunnier spot.
Lin Qing rolled up her sleeves to help. Growing up in the countryside, she knew how to transplant roses for better survival. She worked carefully, but accidentally pricked her palm on a thorn, leaving a small cut.
Mo Feng hurriedly brought out the family first aid kit.
As he held her hand to apply antiseptic and clean the wound, Lin Qing felt her face flush suddenly. However, with his elders present, she didn’t dare to resist. She waited until he had applied the band-aid before finally retracting her hand.
On Lunar New Year's Eve, while making dumplings, Lin Qing quietly sat at the table, dipping her index finger in water as she learned to pinch the round dumpling skins. It was at this moment that Mo Feng realized she was from the south, where dumplings were made with square skins.
Once the dumplings were ready, Mo Feng first served a bowl to Mother Mo and then handed one to her. The white porcelain bowl was hot and burned his hands; he quickly dropped it and exclaimed that it was too hot. Lin Qing felt a warmth in her heart but soon realized that these were just his ways of making this scene more authentic.
Mother Mo kept praising Lin Qing, calling her a lucky star. After Grandma passed away, she rarely celebrated the New Year with her family and had even forgotten what it felt like to celebrate. It turned out that home could be so warm.
