During the New Year's Eve dinner, Mother Mo brought over a jar of Rice Wine, pouring a bowl for each person. The wine was slightly sweet, and Lin Qing drank several bowls in succession.
Mo Feng couldn't help but frown. This Rice Wine was a secret brew from the Mo Family's patriarch; it was sweet on the palate but had a strong afterkick. He dared to drink only two bowls himself, and sure enough, it wasn't long before she was drunk. He quickly supported her into the house, covered her with a thick blanket, and then stepped back outside.
After the Spring Festival Gala ended, Mo Feng returned to his room and found Lin Qing sprawled on the floor, sound asleep. He couldn't help but chuckle; she really was a silly girl.
He held her hand and found it to be icy cold. They say alcohol brings on chills, and now she was likely to catch a cold. Frowning, he picked her up and placed her in bed. The blanket felt a bit cold, so he took off his shoes and climbed in beside her.
He reached out to check her forehead and found it burning hot.
"Hey, Lin Qing!"
"Mm." She groggily heard someone calling her name and tried to open her eyes but failed miserably.
Mo Feng sighed in exasperation, "You've got a fever."
To his surprise, she suddenly clung to his arm and called out, "Grandma," before bursting into tears. Her wet tears spread across the back of his hand, and for a moment, he hesitated to pull away.
After crying for a while, Lin Qing whimpered like a child, "Grandma, I miss you so much..."
Mo Feng got up to fetch a warm towel and placed it on her forehead for a while. Once he confirmed that her fever had subsided, he finally fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning, Lin Qing woke up first and saw Mo Feng beside her. She quickly burrowed back under the blanket to check her clothes. Thankfully...
Mo Feng was stirred awake by her antics, and seeing her like a startled little deer made him laugh suddenly. He was handsome, and when he smiled, Lin Qing's heart raced wildly.
After a short while, Mo Feng got up and called for her from downstairs, saying it was a gathering of childhood friends. Lin Qing hurriedly tidied herself up and went downstairs, slipping into the high heels he had bought for her. Mother Mo urged her to eat breakfast, so she quickly grabbed a meat bun and stuffed it into her mouth before chasing after Mo Feng.
Once in the car, he noticed the grease on her lips and frowned slightly, handing her a tissue to wipe it off. Lin Qing froze for a moment. Oh no, it seemed she had developed feelings for him.
The car didn’t take long to reach a high-end club, where the staff recognized him immediately and led him to a private room on the top floor.
His childhood friends had arrived early, and Lin Qing found herself frozen at the door. All of them were wealthy and influential, and it was rare to see Mo Feng bring a woman along; their jaws dropped in surprise.
Mo Feng guided her to sit on the central sofa and casually poured her a glass of orange juice. Lin Qing took a few sips from the cup, listening as they discussed topics she couldn't understand. She didn’t interject; whenever they mentioned her, she simply smiled in response.
After a while, Lin Qing excused herself to go to the restroom. Upon returning, she heard someone shout, “Haven’t seen you in a while; have you changed? You like such innocent girls now?”
Lin Qing paused at the door, wanting to hear Mo Feng’s reply.
“She’s just a helper I hired. I can’t leave her alone at home; my mom might find out. If I wanted to find a woman, I’d definitely look for someone who is suitable for marriage…” He spoke the truth, but it felt like a thorn had lodged itself in Lin Qing’s heart, causing a slight ache.
On the way back, they played Yang Zongwei's "The One I Love," and no one spoke. Lin Qing quietly gazed out at the changing scenery, suddenly realizing that no matter how sad she felt, she had to play this role until the end; after all, she still needed to get paid.
