Xia Xinyan's recent expedition had led her to assist the local cultural heritage department in uncovering a series of tombs from an unknown dynasty. In the side tomb she was responsible for, they unearthed a Bronze Vessel containing a set of Seven Wine Vessels, exquisitely crafted. The identity of the tomb owner suggested that she was likely an unmarried princess.
When the last coffin was unearthed, it was found to be intact. However, upon opening it, they discovered it was empty, and the whereabouts of the tomb owner remained a mystery. Even more bizarre was the presence of a stunningly vibrant black rose resting on a Jade Pillow. Having participated in archaeological digs for three years, this was the first time Xia Xinyan encountered such strange occurrences, prompting her to seek out her fellow professor.
As the group attempted to investigate further, they found that the black rose had vanished without a trace. Several junior colleagues suggested that Xia Xinyan was simply overreacting due to nerves, but she remained unconvinced; she distinctly remembered catching a faint fragrance emanating from the flower.
After unlocking the door and stepping inside, she once again detected that sweet scent. The psychological effects of fear lingered longer than expected as she took a deep breath and turned on the lights.
To her shock, there was a figure kneeling on the living room floor, dressed in black.
Startled, Xia Xinyan dropped her bag: "Ah! You... you... how did you get in here?"
The person reacted swiftly, reaching out to catch her bag before it hit the ground. With an innocent expression, they asked, "Do you not recognize me?"
"Why would I know you?" She fumbled for her phone in her pocket to call for help, only to realize it was inside the bag now held by this stranger.
Noticing her distress, the figure respectfully raised her bag to eye level, a gesture Xia Xinyan recognized from her studies—an act of servitude from a slave to their master.
It was then that she truly observed the person's attire; their flowing black garments resembled Ancient Hanfu with wide sleeves and long hems. The hairstyle was reminiscent of those from the Western Zhou period. What terrified her most was that the scent surrounding them matched that which she had encountered earlier in the day.
Xia Xinyan's mind raced—Rose Fairy? The thought frightened her. She quickly snatched the small bag back and said, "Please get up."
The person slowly rose, each movement eerily reminiscent of the artifacts she had studied.
Xia Xinyan glanced at his appearance this time. His long eyebrows met at the temples, and his narrow, almond-shaped peach blossom eyes shimmered with a hint of water. His lips were red, his teeth white, and his skin fair; for a moment, she was reminded of the purest child. Somehow, she felt that this person was not bad at all. Clearing her throat, she asked, “So, tell me, how did you end up in my house?”
He lowered his head again and replied, “It was you, Princess, who awakened me, so I followed you back.”
Xia Xinyan swallowed hard. She had awakened him?
“The roses in the Princess Tomb during the day…” he said slowly.
“Well, even though it was me who awakened you, I…” Xia Xinyan pondered for a long time on how to send this uninvited guest away.
The man knelt down once more. “Princess, please feel free to give any orders.”
Xia Xinyan gritted her teeth and opened the door. “You… you should go back where you came from. I… I am not a princess.” In fact, she had just dug up the tomb of his princess today.
He furrowed his brow but still retreated politely to the outside of the door. Xia Xinyan quickly closed the door.
The next morning, when Xia Xinyan opened the door, she was shocked to find him kneeling outside!
“Hey! Why haven’t you left yet?”
