Lin Qingmo felt uneasy about the situation, a bit flustered as evening approached. He searched for Xi'er, hoping to get some feedback on whether he needed to improve anything. The side palace where Ao Yan resided had ten smaller halls in addition to Lin Qingmo's main chamber, each connected by a garden or a spring pool. He found himself behind the hall under an oleander trellis, where he saw a box of pastries scattered on the ground, some crushed underfoot. As he bent down to pick up the food box, he was suddenly embraced from behind and spun around, pushed back against the thick vines of the trellis. Just as he was about to focus on who it was, a familiar face loomed large before him, lips and heavy breaths pressing in. The faint scent of milk and the increasingly skilled kiss could only belong to Ao Yan.
"Mm... mm... let go..." Lin Qingmo felt dizzy from the unexpected kiss, struggling to breathe as his face turned crimson. Unable to endure it any longer, he resorted to lightly hitting Ao Yan's back.
Ao Yan released his lips but immediately turned his attention to Lin Qingmo's neck, licking, kissing, and nibbling. Lin Qingmo finally caught his breath and exhaled deeply, saying, "Stop, someone might come by!"
"Mm-mm—I'm not letting go," Ao Yan insisted, becoming more aggressive as his hands slipped under Lin Qingmo's shirt, playfully roaming around his waist. "Wife, how many days has it been since I had you? I've been so busy these past two days that when I got back, you were already asleep. We barely spoke! I hate festivals!" Ao Yan complained like a puppy, nuzzling Lin Qingmo's face with his cold nose.
Lin Qingmo felt a sweetness in his heart and wrapped his arms around Ao Yan's neck, coaxing him gently, "Don't be impatient; it'll be over in a couple of days. You just don’t know how to appreciate things. If Liu Lan, Xue Gongzi, and Xiao Lang all leave, you'll be complaining about why they didn’t come to play."
"But right now, all I want is you!" Ao Yan continued to pout and act spoiled.
"Prioritizing romance over friendship!" Fox King remarked from behind a large red coral to Chakravartin beside him. Chakravartin nodded and waved his black feather fan dismissively. "Expel him from the group; we don't need him anymore!"
Fox King shot Chakravartin a glance and suddenly looked alarmed. "Hurry up and stop fanning!"
"What’s wrong?" Chakravartin paused and glanced at his hand, noticing a change in expression as a gust of wind swirled around them with a whoosh that sent them both flying away.
"Mm—no, don’t..." Lin Qingmo suddenly moaned as Ao Yan's mischievous hand found its way somewhere unexpected. Overwhelmed by sensations, he felt tingles all over. This sound sent shivers through Ao Yan; an idea sparked in his mind as he eagerly asked, "Wife, where did I just touch you?"
Just then, footsteps approached along with laughter and chatter. Panicking, Lin Qingmo pushed Ao Yan away and straightened his collar while tying his belt in a flustered manner. "I have to go find Xi'er... Xi'er... I'm going to find Xi'er." With that said, he turned and walked away. Ao Yan reached out to grab him but missed; then they heard a voice call out.
Lin Qingmo took a few steps before faintly hearing a sweet voice say, "Eighth Prince, are you still mad at me?" Ao Yan replied flatly without revealing any emotion: "What anger? I forgot all about it long ago." The sweet voice lingered with an alluring tone: "Then why won’t you come see me? I know you're still upset; it's all my fault for treating you that way... making you hate me... I regret it so much. I'm here sincerely apologizing; can you give me another chance?"
Recognizing the voice belonged to Plum Blossom Fairy made Lin Qingmo smile wryly at her earlier demeanor and tone. However, her ambiguous words left him feeling uneasy as he continued walking away.
Far away in the trees hung Chakravartin and Fox King. Fox King removed the leaves from his head and weakly said, "I told you not to fan yet you kept going; your fan is even more powerful than Iron Fan Princess’s! How many days until we officially recognize our master?"
Chakravartin rolled his eyes. "Thirty days."
Fox King grew increasingly frustrated and wished he could kick him away. "It'll take time to get back too! My clothes are torn; remember to buy me a new one on the way back! I really want to kick you..."
As night fell, Shrimp Soldiers and Crab Generals pulled aside a piece of red silk on the wall revealing a large copper mirror adorned with intricate vine carvings intertwined with flowers. Two rows of long tables were set up in the main hall leaving ample space in the center for performances. Everyone took their seats; Ao Yan sat on a heavy chair directly opposite the copper mirror at the head of the tables with a smaller chair beside him reserved for Lin Qingmo. However, Lin Qingmo was busy in the kitchen and had no time to sit beside him for sweet nothings.
Sitting there like a sulking child with clenched fists and pouting lips, Ao Yan stared toward the kitchen direction.
The copper mirror reflected a dark sea surface as the moon rose above it slowly breaking through clouds like shy fingers revealing its round silver face. Moonlight danced upon the water creating shimmering waves resembling white silk flowing gently back and forth with each crashing wave.
As waitresses began serving snacks alongside refreshing drinks—sweet fruit wine brewed by Lin Qingmo for female guests and rare aged wines from Dragon Palace for male guests—a row of mermaids holding instruments appeared beneath the copper mirror. Each mermaid had long hair cascading down their backs with long silver tails curled beneath them as they closed their eyes swaying gently with the rhythm of the waves while playing melodious tunes.
Plum Blossom Fairy sat closest to Ao Yan watching him anxiously fidgeting in frustration while feeling envious inside. On another side sat Ao Bi beside Wolf King serving him pastries and pouring wine while Wolf King sweated profusely from heat.
At the table only Monthly Rose Fairy, Chakravartin, Fox King, and Ao Yan’s two cousins were focused solely on enjoying the beautiful music.
Monthly Rose Fairy took a sip of fruit wine—sweet and refreshing—and softly exclaimed how delicious it was before offering her cup to Dodder Princess for a small taste. Monthly Rose Fairy was petite with two fluffy buns atop her head resembling maid hairstyles but wore seamless fairy garments that accentuated her delicate features—her clear watery eyes evoking sympathy akin to that of an innocent wealthy girl unaware of worldly affairs.
Suddenly the music shifted unexpectedly causing everyone to pause as their attention turned toward the row of mermaids playing instruments. At that moment Xi'er emerged from within the inner hall dressed in feminine attire—a white dress trimmed with pink—her wings crossed at her waist while her face was covered by matching pink veil exposing only her eyes which blinked flirtatiously at everyone around her.
The crowd nearly spat out their drinks as Xi'er extended her left paw twisting her hips playfully while trailing several long tails across the ground; then she extended her right paw doing another twist causing vibrant tails behind her to sway like colorful snakes across the floor. With this dance style Xi'er made her way into the open space between two rows of tables just as another group entered from within—the Pearl Spirit along with Dragon Palace's Dance Maidens followed suit.
