Lin Qingmo was thrown to the ground by Ao Yan. His already torn clothes were further ripped apart during their struggle, leaving him barely covered. With his long hair cascading around him, he lay motionless on the floor. Ao Yan looked at his exposed skin, as if he were teasingly throwing flirtatious glances at himself. He stepped forward, pulled Lin Qingmo up, and stripped away the remnants of his tattered clothing. He brushed aside the hair that covered Lin Qingmo's face and pinched his chin, forcing his head back to rest on his shoulder. "That day you saved Lin Xiao and took a shower, why didn’t you wash the blood off your shoes? It seems like you’re visiting him more often; your feelings must be deeper. Should I thank him for making you so wild and reckless in my arms just to save him?"
"Get away—" Lin Qingmo suddenly elbowed Ao Yan in the chest. Caught off guard, Ao Yan felt a sharp pain and fell back onto the ground. Lin Qingmo scrambled to his feet and ran, his mind in chaos, not knowing where to go—only driven by instinct. Ao Yan reacted quickly, leaping forward to strike Lin Qingmo's ankle with a palm. "Ah—" Lin Qingmo felt a jolt in his leg and stumbled forward, falling to the ground. He flipped over and pushed himself backward with his hands. Ao Yan jumped up and delivered a powerful kick to Lin Qingmo's chest. He felt a surge of heat in his heart and coughed up blood, collapsing backward, somewhat dazed.
Ao Yan unbuckled his belt and bound Lin Qingmo's hands together before dragging him out of the bedroom. The Clam Spirit maids were terrified and shrank away, heads bowed in fear; wherever Ao Yan passed, the maids turned into statues, silent as the grave. He dragged Lin Qingmo into a large room in the back hall. The room was spacious but empty, with pearls of various sizes scattered across the floor. In the center stood a white Bivalve Shell, large enough to resemble a bed, its mouth tightly closed like a pursed lip. Ao Yan brought Lin Qingmo to the Bivalve Shell and touched it; slowly, its lips began to part. He lifted the half-conscious Lin Qingmo and placed him inside the Bivalve Shell before climbing in himself.
Inside the Bivalve Shell was another bedroom, though simpler than their new home’s decor. Ao Yan laid Lin Qingmo on the bed and touched his pale face before standing up to retrieve a red cotton-stuffed porcelain bottle from a cabinet. He poured out a pill and forced it into Lin Qingmo's mouth, making him swallow it before giving him some tea to drink. Seeing Lin Qingmo's complexion gradually regain some color and his breathing stabilize as he fell asleep, Ao Yan finally left the room.
Emerging from the Bivalve Shell, Ao Yan headed straight for the master bedroom. He sat down in front of the dressing mirror and gently tapped its center; the mirror seemed to transform into a shimmering water surface that rippled outward. After the ripples settled, an image appeared in the mirror—a hall filled with singing and laughter. The Fox King and Chakravartin lounged on a couch in the hall, each embracing a woman as they laughed together. Chakravartin, bleary-eyed from drink, tapped on the armrest with chopsticks to accompany the singing with rhythm. Ao Yan addressed the mirror: "Liu Lan, Xue, it's me—Ao Yan." Chakravartin seemed too intoxicated to hear him; however, Fox King’s fox ears perked up at the sound. He pushed aside the woman in his arms, descended from the couch, and stepped out into the courtyard where he found a small lotus pond. Gently pointing at the water's surface with his finger caused it to reflect Ao Yan's face.
Fox King sat by the pond’s edge and stirred the lotus petals with his fingers. "What’s wrong, Xiao Ba? Is there something urgent you need?" Ao Yan replied, "I need my brother’s help with something." Fox King tossed aside the petal he held; it floated down onto the pond’s surface, creating faint ripples that distorted Ao Yan’s reflection momentarily. "Did you have a fight with Lin Qingmo?" Fox King asked. Ao Yan paused before responding evasively: "Will you help me or not?" Fox King replied confidently, "Have I ever failed you when you asked for help?" At that moment, Ao Yan felt relieved. As the ripples faded away again revealing a smooth water mirror once more, he said: "I need water from Parent-Child River. Once I obtain it, I’ll send someone for it." Fox King's narrow eyes squinted slightly as he pondered for a moment before nodding in agreement with a simple "Alright."
