If one always conducts oneself with integrity and propriety, it is unlikely that others would find any faults to exploit. Therefore, if there is blame to be assigned, it can only fall upon oneself. Even if one's greed was a significant factor, one should have considered the circumstances more carefully. Perhaps it was due to impatience that I completely overlooked the environment around me. If that is the case, I can only blame my own carelessness for allowing things to escalate to this point.
However, since everyone has chosen to remain silent about the matter, I must treat it as if nothing has happened. Yet, every person present in this room today will surely need to be managed carefully in the future. After all, they have all heard what was said, and there is no guarantee that they will keep it to themselves once they leave. Curiosity runs high among them, and with so many people in the workplace, it is very likely that this incident will be discussed. They may not know the specifics of what is being said about me, but they will certainly describe the embarrassing scene from today in great detail.
Such a situation could hinder my ability to work effectively in the future, especially since I have always maintained a strict demeanor towards them. If they were to find any leverage against me, their respect for me might diminish significantly. Therefore, I must ensure that each person present today receives a thoughtful gift or an opportunity for a proper arrangement in the future. Otherwise, they may not keep my secret safe. It seems I have added another small task to my plate: fostering good relationships with these individuals and ideally turning them into friends. This way, they might safeguard some of my secrets.
The middle-aged man sat in his original seat, feeling deep regret. In this large room, he was utterly alone and felt helpless. He had no one to confide in about this matter because it was entirely unspeakable. If others were to find out, his troubles would multiply. Although he had spoken without concern at the time, if this incident were discovered later on—especially without knowing who might have leaked it—he would be in a precarious position.
Thus, it was best for him to keep this matter to himself. However, now more people were aware of what he had experienced during his moment of helplessness—a situation he had never encountered before in all his years of life. He felt an overwhelming sense of injustice but found himself unable to voice a single word.
Just moments ago, the atmosphere in this room had been lively; he had been furious then as everyone had shown him great respect. Those around him had been eager to curry favor with him. How could it be that in an instant, they all left? Their perception of his status must have shifted dramatically as well.
Previously, they had respected him greatly; after all, he was well-dressed and considered quite talented. They had expressed satisfaction with all his works. Yet now, following this incident, their views of him were undoubtedly tainted by something else. The ease with which he had previously navigated work relationships might not return after this event. Just thinking about such a scenario filled him with a profound sense of grievance.
Yet he could not blame anyone but himself; if there were any fault to find, it lay solely with his own greed. Had he not been so greedy and maintained a straightforward approach, such an incident would never have occurred. While many others had acted similarly before him without consequence due to their carefulness and discretion, perhaps it was his momentary lapse in attention that led to such severe repercussions.
