Jimmy lay at the top of the stairs, staring down at the high steps as if they were an old rival.
His little paws tentatively pressed against the first step, but he quickly withdrew as if scalded.
"Hmph!" he huffed softly, as if trying to motivate himself.
This time, he decided not to act recklessly but to observe first.
That's right, observe!
Jimmy lifted his front paw to take a look at himself.
"Are my legs... really that short?" he mumbled to himself, a hint of confusion and sadness in his eyes.
To verify this question, he hopped over to another pet in the house—a graceful Siamese Cat lazily lounging on the sofa, licking her paws.
Comparing his Short Legs with the Siamese Cat's long limbs made him feel like a little gourd.
"Meow, why are you staring at me?" the Siamese Cat lazily lifted her head and flicked Jimmy's nose with her tail. "Are you jealous of my beauty?"
Jimmy shook his head, his small ears drooping even lower.
He then went to find his hamster friend—a round little creature gnawing on a carrot inside its cage.
Jimmy crouched outside the cage for a while before muttering to himself, "Hmm... even though your legs are shorter, you don’t have to climb stairs."
The hamster paused its nibbling on the carrot and glanced at Jimmy with its round, shiny eyes, as if to say, "Don't compare me to you; I'm a professional at running on wheels."
Jimmy sighed, his little tail drooping listlessly behind him, looking utterly dejected.
He decided to seek answers from his mother!
His mother was busy in the kitchen when she heard Jimmy's soft whines approaching. She couldn't help but laugh, "What's wrong, little one? Did you fall down the stairs again?"
Jimmy gazed up at her with his big, wet eyes, resting his little head against her leg in a show of affection. "Woof woof~"
His mother bent down and patted his little head. "You are just a cute Short Legs! Don't be disheartened; one day you'll make it up there."
"Short Legs?" The term struck Jimmy like a bolt from the blue, and he suddenly lifted his head, his big eyes filled with shock and confusion.
Could it be... am I really the legendary "Short Legs"?
With this question in mind, Jimmy hopped over to the coffee table, nudged his father's tablet with his nose, and clumsily poked at the screen with his paw.
As the screen lit up, he spotted a search box. He used his nose to bring up the keyboard and painstakingly typed out "Short-Legged Dog," letter by letter.
After hitting search, a row of images popped up—Dachshunds, Corgis, and several other "short-legged contenders" appeared on the screen!
Jimmy blinked at the photos, lost in thought. "These guys... look kind of like me?"
But soon he shook his head. "No way, I'm clearly white-furred!"
To uncover the truth, Jimmy decided to imitate the "short-legged competitors" in the pictures to see if he was like them.
So, he tried digging like a Dachshund, clawing at a pile of dirt next to a flower pot, but ended up tumbling into the pot due to his excessive effort. Then he attempted to chase a ball like a Corgi, but his tail wagged so excitedly that it lost control and sent the ball flying under the sofa...
The entire afternoon turned the living room into a battlefield, and the culprit—our protagonist, Jimmy—lay dejectedly at the foot of the sofa, panting, "It seems I can't even imitate properly."
Just then, an unexpected event occurred!
The Siamese Cat on the sofa suddenly extended its paw and pushed a Plush Toy to the edge of the sofa, causing it to tumble to the floor with a thud.
Seeing the toy fall, Jimmy instantly perked up, his little tail wagging furiously.
He stood up and pushed off with his hind legs—
And astonishingly jumped onto the sofa in one leap!
"Woof!" he barked excitedly, but then froze in disbelief. "Wait, how is this possible?"
The Siamese Cat was equally startled. "Meow! When did you learn to jump so high?"
Jimmy looked down at his Short Legs and recalled that incredible leap just moments ago, filled with confusion. "Could it be that I'm not really Short Legs?"
