Ye Ya looked at the newspaper, contemplating what path her life should take in the future. Finding a job seemed impossible now, whether it was because of her grandfather or her pregnancy; it would not be easy for her to secure employment. This incident had tarnished the reputation of the Ye Family, and she could imagine how furious her grandfather must be.
She wondered how Tao Momo was doing. Closing the newspaper, Ye Ya rubbed her forehead, not believing that she couldn't survive on her own two hands.
The next evening, Ye Ya was surprised when Tao Momo showed up. After three years, this woman had become even more beautiful, exuding charm, but her expression was grim. Ye Ya was taken aback as Tao Momo walked over and hugged her, complaining, “Ye Ya, how could you not tell me about such a big incident? Do you even consider me a friend anymore?”
Finally understanding why Tao Momo looked so upset, Ye Ya felt a mix of amusement and exasperation. “I’m fine! Look at me; nothing happened. Besides, you know I didn’t want to stay in the Ye Family. If it weren’t for this situation, I might have already married that playboy Jing Hao. I’ve actually turned misfortune into a blessing and escaped from a miserable fate.” Ye Ya had always found ways to make light of her struggles over the years.
“Damn it! I really want to smash those newspapers! Do they have no sense of public duty?” Tao Momo said through gritted teeth, eyeing Ye Ya with concern. “Ya, what about the baby?”
Ye Ya invited her inside and offered her a cup of tea. “Mo Mo, you’ll support me, right?”
Hearing Ye Ya say this nearly made Tao Momo spill her tea. Her beautiful face twisted in disbelief. “You’re not seriously telling me you plan to keep the baby? Are you out of your mind? Don’t you know how much this will affect your future?”
“Mo Mo, you know my life in the Ye Family. I want to keep this child; what I crave most is family.” These words might be hard for others to understand, but she believed Tao Momo would get it.
Tao Momo was furious; she felt like tearing Ye Ya’s head off to see if it was as foolish as a pig’s.
“Ya, tell me who that bastard is! I’ll go take care of him,” Tao Momo fumed inwardly, feeling more agitated than if it were her own pregnancy. How dare that jerk touch her sister?
Looking at her friend, Ye Ya thought about how reckless she had been and how she had let herself fall into this situation. And then there was Lu Tianyang—just thinking about him made her heart tremble. She didn’t like him; he was deep and cunning, and she couldn’t see through him.
“Forget it; I don’t even know who he is right now. The most important thing is the baby. Why did you come back early? Didn’t you say you wanted to spend time with your family?” Ye Ya thought about how unprepared she was to host this foodie.
“Could I not come back early? If I hadn’t returned, I wouldn’t have known you were in trouble! Well, since you’ve decided to keep the baby, I’ll be the godmother from now on; I’ll look out for you,” Tao Momo declared grandly.
“How about we go eat at Drunken Fragrance House? You love their Drunken Fragrant Concubine Chicken!” Ye Ya thought that eating something good was more important than anything else; she couldn’t let Tao Momo return home on her first day without a decent meal.
“Sure! Let’s go! The food on the plane was terrible,” Tao Momo replied. She had planned a feast at home for tonight but couldn’t remain calm after hearing about Ye Ya’s situation; how could she not be concerned when such a big event had happened without being told?
The Drunken Fragrance House was crowded with people. Ye Ya and Tao Momo waited for a while before getting a table. She hadn’t expected this silly girl to show up at such a time; otherwise, she would have made a reservation in advance.
Seeing so many people around, Tao Momo acted as Ye Ya’s protector while Ye Ya found her behavior exaggerated.
Unexpectedly, they encountered Lu Tianyang again at the restaurant. Ye Ya froze for a moment and then walked past him as if he were just another stranger. However, Lu Tianyang looked at Ye Ya with an expression that seemed to see an enemy instead.
Lu Tianyang was not the one at a disadvantage; it was Ye Ya who had to endure his piercing gaze, despite being a good woman.
Perhaps Lu Tianyang felt that he couldn't lose face in front of a man, as in his life, he had never considered anyone beneath him. Since the day he was born, he had never encountered someone who dared to challenge him like Ye Ya did, time and again pushing his boundaries.
As they sat down, Tao Momo couldn't help but roll her eyes in Lu Tianyang's direction. "Xiao Ya, did you see that arrogant guy? Just because he thinks he's handsome, he struts around like he's something special. That look on his face... it’s as if he thinks being part of the Ye Family gives him some sort of privilege. But if his investments fail, both he and his child will be in serious trouble."
Suddenly inspired, Tao Momo slapped her thigh. "Ya, what do you think about starting a clothing business? You could handle the management while I take care of the design. Remember our dreams from college?"
Back then, Tao Momo was just a novice, but she envisioned herself as a designer who could create high-quality yet affordable clothing for people like her.
"Sure! With you as the Great Designer, I believe we can make it work. But for the management side, we need to conduct market research and define our marketing strategy," Ye Ya replied. Having studied management and worked her way up from a junior position to manager of the planning department at Ye Family over three years, she was no novice herself.
"Great! Xiao Ya, we can definitely do this!" Tao Momo loved freedom and wanted a platform to express her creative ideas. Plus, with Ye Ya pregnant, this seemed like the best solution.
After dinner, Tao Momo and Ye Ya went their separate ways home. As Ye Ya walked slowly along the street back home, she observed all the clothing shops around her. They were just ordinary people now and didn't have the means to start their own brand from scratch.
Most shops on the street sold clothes; aside from a few brands, they were mostly selling ordinary items. She thought about how Tao Momo was a capable designer and how they could promote their little shop by offering tailored services to customers. By improving ordinary clothes, they could create high-end looks that would allow those who couldn’t afford brand stores to wear stylish outfits.
Finding unique ways to succeed was often a key strategy in business.
Once home, Ye Ya began drafting a feasibility report for their new store. She categorized potential problems and things they needed to understand. While her belly was still small, she wanted to plan ahead; otherwise, as her pregnancy progressed and movement became more difficult, it would be harder to manage everything.
Although she felt anxious inside, by 11 PM, Ye Ya turned off her computer and lay down on her bed.
The night was serene as she gazed through the partially open window at the twinkling stars in the sky. She didn’t know which star represented her mother, but she believed her mother would support her.
Lying in her own home gave her a sense of security; apart from the time spent with her mother during childhood, this place made her feel truly at home.
Lost in thought, Ye Ya soon fell asleep.
The next day, Ye Ya went out to conduct market research while deciding on shop locations. Meanwhile, Tao Momo began looking into fabric options. A good designer knows how to utilize materials effectively to create clothing suitable for individual wear.
After an entire day of work, Ye Ya's calves were sore. They planned to invest equally in their venture; upon hearing about Tao Momo's plans, Tao Ba thought it would be good for his daughter to venture out. Besides, with her personality, she wouldn’t be able to sit idle in that small village for long. Thus, Tao Ba readily provided funding to support Tao Momo's plan.
Tao Momo originally planned to contribute more so that Ye Ya could save some money, but Ye Ya insisted on keeping the accounts clear; she couldn't let Tao Momo suffer any losses.
Ye Ya created a detailed plan based on their budget, deducting the shop rent, clothing costs, and workers' wages. For a newly opened shop like theirs, they needed at least one helper. Tao Momo also purchased a sewing machine and decided to personally take charge of the sewing, which became one of the unique features of their little store.
After selecting a location, Ye Ya inquired about the rent. Compared to the prices in that area, it was somewhat high, which Ye Ya found unacceptable. So, she finally took Tao Momo to negotiate with the landlord.
In the end, the rent of twelve thousand was negotiated down to eight thousand. Tao Momo admired her greatly for this, while Ye Ya simply smiled and said, "It's nothing. He thought we knew nothing. I have a good grasp of the prices on this street, and since the landlord is eager for money, we could naturally get a lower price."
Thinking back to how calm and composed Ye Ya was while bargaining—discussing market analysis and environmental factors with the landlord—Tao Momo was impressed. In the end, they managed to cut four thousand off the price. Ye Ya knew that for such a location, the market price was around ten thousand; eight thousand was still a fair deal.
Tao Momo linked her arm with Ye Ya's, feeling quite pleased. "Xiao Ya, I’m sure our shop will become a beautiful sight on Spring Breeze Street. I can already imagine how amazing you must have been working at Ye Family."
"This is nothing; from now on, we’ll rely on you as our Great Designer." Since this shop used to be a wholesale store, it definitely needed renovations. Ye Ya already had ideas about how to decorate it.
Tao Momo came from a design background. As Ye Ya shared her market analysis with her, they combined their expertise seamlessly. The night grew late without either of them noticing how much time had passed. Eventually, Tao Momo decided to just sleep there since there were rooms available.
Ye Ya had no objections; mainly because Tao Ba and Tao Ma missed their daughter dearly. After such a long absence, it didn't make sense for her not to stay at home.
