Listening to Lu Tianyang, Ye Ya felt that he had once again lowered the bar for shamelessness. How dare he compete with her for their daughter?
Ye Ya had just woken up, and her wounds still throbbed with pain. Before long, her daughter was taken away by a nurse for feeding.
“Lu Tianyang, why bother competing with me? Any woman wanting to have children with you, Lu Da Shao Ye, could easily line up from one end of the street to the other with just a wave of your hand. Is it really necessary? Oh, and don’t give me that nonsense about taking responsibility after sleeping together; it sounds ironic coming from you.” Ye Ya settled back, sipping the concoction the nurse had just brought her. Only after drinking this could she truly eat.
Lu Tianyang wondered if this woman was born to be his nemesis. He had intended to say that since they had a child, it was only natural for him as a man to take responsibility. Yet, this woman seemed indifferent to his willingness to do so.
Unable to hold back, he asked, “Ye Ya, what are you afraid of?”
After finishing her soup, Ye Ya set the bowl aside. “That question is pointless. Lu Tianyang, who are you? What kind of prestigious family is the Lu Family? You were born with a silver spoon in your mouth. Your family’s threshold is as high as a palace. And what am I? A disgraceful illegitimate daughter with a reputation as foul as a sewer. Do you really think we’re suited for each other?” Ye Ya countered.
Her words left Lu Tianyang momentarily speechless. Indeed, he had never considered marrying such a woman because in his life plan, he never imagined encountering someone who completely disregarded him and even felt that being with him was a form of torture.
Seeing Lu Tianyang's expression, Ye Ya let out a cold laugh. “So, stop doing these pointless things. Just leave when you can. If reporters find out, I might not even be able to maintain my previously peaceful life. I’m begging you; let me and my child have a way out. I ask for nothing more.”
Lu Tianyang sat down beside her and looked at her with eyes deep as the ocean, as if he were casting a net to bind her.
Ye Ya ultimately did not possess the same commanding aura as this man. She turned her head away from him and said, “You could easily marry a socialite or a refined lady; just pretend nothing ever happened.”
Suddenly, Lu Tianyang grasped Ye Ya’s hand tightly. “Ye Ya, trust me; I will handle this.”
Ye Ya struggled desperately to pull her hand away but found herself unable to break free. Damn it! Even a cornered rabbit can bite! In frustration, she bit down hard on his hand.
Lu Tianyang had no choice but to release her grip and sighed in resignation. “This woman is truly fierce. Fine, let’s not argue about this for now. Just focus on resting.”
After finishing her soup and feeling exhausted without having fully recovered yet, Ye Ya turned away from him, choosing not to look at him anymore.
Lu Tianyang was defeated by him once again. In his thirty years of life, he had never experienced such frustration.
At noon, when Ye Ya woke up, Tao Mama had already arrived, and Tao Momo hurried back as soon as she learned that Ye Ya had given birth.
Seeing Tao Mama, Ye Ya finally felt a sense of family. "Xiao Ya, how are you feeling? Poor child, Tao Ma was almost worried to death. Thankfully, both mother and baby are safe."
"Tao Ma, I'm fine. The baby is healthy too. I'll have the nurse bring the baby over for you to see in a bit." The safe delivery made all the hardships worthwhile.
"I just asked the doctor, and they said you can have some soup now. After giving birth, a woman needs to take good care of herself during the confinement period; otherwise, she might be left with many health issues," Tao Ma said while serving soup for Ye Ya.
"Tao Ma, I know. I have a postpartum doula to take care of the baby; it’s all good." Ye Ya smiled as she accepted the bowl of soup.
At that moment, Tao Mama took a serious look at the man who had been standing nearby. He must be the one who answered the phone last night. "You, you're the one from last night."
"Tao Ma, hello. My name is Lu Tianyang."
Tao Mama observed him—he appeared refined and composed, mature and restrained, with an extraordinary presence. She struggled to find words to say to him.
"Is the child yours? You can't bully Xiao Ya anymore; otherwise, I won't forgive you," Tao Ma said, though she couldn't muster any harsh words.
"I will definitely take responsibility for Xiao Ya and the baby. Please rest assured, Tao Ma." After saying this, Lu Tianyang cast a meaningful glance at Ye Ya, looking as if he had succeeded in some scheme, which made Ye Ya grit her teeth in frustration.
The nurse brought the baby over; now it was truly in Ye Ya's hands. The little one was asleep, and looking at her child made Ye Ya feel that life was truly beautiful—she had been blessed with such an angelic baby.
While Lu Tianyang stepped out to fetch water, Tao Mama sat beside Ye Ya. "Xiao Ya, although he has caused you a lot of suffering, considering his good attitude and that he is the baby's father, you should give him a chance. Raising a child alone is really tough for a woman."
“Tao Ma, I know, don’t worry,” Ye Ya said, choosing not to elaborate further. Perhaps life ahead would not be easy, but Ye Ya was unafraid.
After living in the Ye Family for so many years, having a child made her truly feel that she was no longer alone.
In the afternoon, Tao Ma stayed for three hours, explaining to Ye Ya what she needed to pay attention to while taking care of the baby. Only when the Postpartum Doula arrived did she feel at ease to leave.
This Postpartum Doula was someone Lu Tianyang had brought in from who knows where. Ye Ya thought about the Postpartum Doula she had contacted earlier; although she had already paid a deposit, she still informed her not to come for now.
The Postpartum Doula was very professional and knew exactly how to take care of the baby. She could tell what the baby needed as soon as it cried. Ye Ya began to breastfeed. At this time, Lu Tianyang was usually nearby. Ye Ya felt that this man appeared refined, but deep down he was truly a beast. Annoyed, she said, “What are you staring at? Turn around!”
Three days later, Ye Ya was finally able to be discharged from the hospital. Initially, she planned to go home by herself, but Lu Tianyang insisted on putting her in the car. He knew she wouldn’t agree to go with him otherwise, so he carried the baby while watching Ye Ya struggle with her bags behind him. He felt a twinge of guilt but thought there was no other way; only by doing this would she obediently follow him.
Ye Ya provided her address, but unexpectedly, the car veered off course. Panic set in for Ye Ya. “Lu Tianyang, what are you doing? Tell him to take me to Jiangjing Bay!”
“Sir, should I listen to the lady?” the driver asked respectfully.
“Shut up!” Ye Ya muttered under her breath.
“Yiju Mountain Villa,” Lu Tianyang said, observing her frantic demeanor as if she were an ant on a hot pan. He reached out to pat her head but she dodged away.
“Xiao Ya, everything is ready over there. Didn’t you hear Tao Ma say? You agreed so readily; postpartum care is very important. You need to listen to me.”
“Are you out of your mind?” Ye Ya wanted to argue back, but just then the baby started crying. They both fell silent, anxious to figure out why the baby was upset.
“Sweetheart, are you hungry or did you make a mess?” Ye Ya checked and found that the diaper was fine. Could it be hunger?
Lu Tianyang pressed a button that separated them from the driver’s seat. Ye Ya felt frustrated. “What are you doing?”
"You’re not going to feed the baby? You can’t let others see," Ye Ya heard him say, feeling that communication with him had become impossible.
At that moment, the little one stopped crying. They exchanged a glance, as if the child was trying to prevent them from arguing.
Before they knew it, the car had arrived at Ning Cheng's affluent residential area. Standing still with the child in her arms, Ye Ya found herself unable to move as she looked at the luxurious villas surrounded by greenery.
"What's wrong? Don’t worry, this is just a place I occasionally come to for vacation. I promise it won’t disturb your postpartum recovery. Let’s hurry inside; it’s windy," Lu Tianyang said, wrapping his arm around Ye Ya's shoulder and guiding her inside like a puppet.
The house had been redecorated. As Ye Ya walked into the first room on the second floor, Lu Tianyang opened the door, startling her. The room was arranged like a bridal chamber, complete with various toys and an adorable little bed.
"Xiao Ya, do you like it?" Lu Tianyang asked.
Ye Ya handed the baby over to the postpartum doula for feeding. Since her milk supply was low, she was surprised when Lu Tianyang managed to find someone with milk to help.
Looking around the room, Ye Ya sighed. "Lu Tianyang, what’s the point? I won’t be staying here long."
Hearing her words extinguished Lu Tianyang's enthusiasm in an instant; it felt like a bucket of cold water had been thrown over him.
"I’m telling you, if I let you stay here, then you must stay here," Lu Tianyang said firmly. He was also frustrated; having grown up in comfort, he had been trying to please this woman for days. Yet she not only failed to appreciate his efforts but repeatedly dismissed and hurt him. With that thought, he went downstairs to check on the baby.
Lu Tianyang's words struck fear deep within Ye Ya. She stepped inside and opened the wardrobe, discovering not only clothes for the baby but also adult clothing—new items still bearing tags. When had Lu Tianyang arranged all this?
Looking at the large bed made her scalp tingle; she couldn’t imagine sleeping in the same bed as Lu Tianyang one day. However, she found herself fond of the crib beside it.
After feeding, the baby fell asleep. Unable to resist, Lu Tianyang picked up the child again. He wasn’t truly angry with Ye Ya; her heart was as cold as ice in the Arctic. Melting it wouldn’t happen overnight.
“Xiao Ya, look at Chen Chen, she’s full and already asleep again. Sweetheart, open your eyes and play with Daddy for a while.” Lu Tianyang gently stroked her tender, rosy cheeks.
“Don’t disturb her, let her sleep,” Ye Ya replied as she took the baby and placed her in the crib. She watched over her, marveling at how incredible it was that after ten months of pregnancy, this little one had transformed from a tiny dot into an adorable baby.
“You should lie down too; I’ll bring you something to eat shortly. Xiao Ya, just relax here. I won’t let you and the baby suffer,” Lu Tianyang said firmly.
Hearing his words, Ye Ya merely glanced at him and raised an eyebrow.
It seemed impossible to remain calm. Would the Lu Family truly accept them? Thoughts of Du Huiru and the Lu Family filled Ye Ya’s mind with a sense of hopelessness. After spending time in such a wealthy family, she could easily imagine how things would unfold.
At that moment, within the Lu Family, Du Huiru and Lu Jianming were furious. “What did you say? The young master brought a woman back with a child?”
“Speak clearly,” Lu Jianming said, still confident in his son. This was just a fleeting affair; there was no need to bring anyone home.
“Yes, the young master brought a woman and child to Yiju Mountain Villa, and it seems that woman is the Ye Family Young Lady who was previously rejected by Young Master Jing Hao,” the driver reported honestly. In fact, Du Huiru was aware of almost everything happening in the Lu Family; while she didn’t concern herself with company matters, she always kept tabs on family affairs.
“What? You mean he brought back Jing Hao’s discarded fiancée?” Du Huiru's delicate face twisted in disbelief.
