Lu Tianyang finished his meal cleanly, even drinking the soup, and though his stomach felt a bit full, he was quite satisfied. "Ye Ya, your cooking is not bad. Keep it up in the future."
Keep it up, my foot! Ye Ya glared at the man who was getting more demanding by the minute. Did he think she was some kind of cook? She scoffed and didn’t even bother to give him a glance. She thought to herself that her confinement period was almost over, and in a few days, she would take the child back home.
Although she had to take care of the baby, the business at Moya Fashion Store was another focus of Ye Ya's life. Even though Tao Momo was around and she didn’t have to worry too much, they still needed to formulate a new strategy for the upcoming season; otherwise, how could they seize the initiative and capture the market?
"What’s wrong? Are you angry, Ye Ya? You’re not that petty of a woman," Lu Tianyang said, feeling good after finishing his meal. He couldn’t help but walk over to tease her.
Ye Ya found him irritating. "Now that you’re full, go away and don’t bother me. I don’t want to talk to you."
Just listen to her tone; she really wanted to drive him crazy.
"Ye Ya, you’re the first woman who dares to tell me to go away and doesn’t want to talk to me. But I want to talk to you," Lu Tianyang said with a grin, his shamelessness as thick as a city wall. Unfortunately for him, he was dealing with a woman just as formidable.
Ye Ya rolled her eyes and propped herself up on the bed. "Lu Tianyang, has anyone ever told you that being narcissistic is actually a disease? You need treatment, you know?" After saying this, she lay back down and pulled up the blanket, not wanting to see him at all.
Lu Tianyang couldn’t help but sigh; this woman really knew how to argue. He thought about how he had been reasoning with her at home tonight, yet she remained ungrateful. Was he being foolish? Damn it, apart from her, Lu Tianyang couldn’t think of anyone else he wanted to marry in this lifetime.
Suddenly, the blanket was yanked away. Ye Ya turned over and said unhappily, "Lu Tianyang, what do you want? Didn’t we agree that you wouldn’t come into my bed?"
"Ye Ya, I advise you not to move. Don’t think that just because you’re in confinement I won’t dare touch you; try me," he said playfully. In truth, he was just talking nonsense; he wasn’t beastly enough to go that far—this woman still needed proper care.
In terms of fighting, Ye Ya didn’t think she would lose to this man; she just worried about waking up the little one who had only just fallen asleep. The baby had cried for a long time in the evening, breaking her heart.
"Lu Tianyang, can you be any more shameless?" Ye Ya finally stopped struggling and added, "I despise men who only know how to use force."
The words landed like a bomb, and Lu Tianyang felt deflated, much like a punctured balloon. In truth, he only wanted to hold her for a moment; he had no other intentions.
Ye Ya noticed that the man had gone still. She couldn't help but furrow her brows slightly. "Hey, Lu Tianyang, hurry up and get out of here with that stench of sweat; I can't stand it."
"Then I'll go take a shower now. If I don't smell after that, you have to let me into your bed," Lu Tianyang replied, and without waiting for an answer, he headed to the bathroom. Soon, the sound of running water filled the air. Ye Ya gasped; when did she ever say he could sleep in her bed? How could he twist her words like that?
Five minutes later, Lu Tianyang emerged wrapped in a towel, droplets of water still clinging to his hair, his chiseled abs on full display. It was actually the first time Ye Ya had seen him so clearly from such a close distance. Suddenly, she felt as if she had been electrocuted; one thought flashed through her mind—this man had lost his mind.
Seeing Ye Ya in a daze, Lu Tianyang couldn't help but smirk. How could anyone complain about such a handsome man?
He walked over and reached out to ruffle her hair, but Ye Ya swatted his hand away and glared at him. "Lu Tianyang, with that pathetic body of yours, what are you showing off for? Go look in the mirror over there."
If looks could kill, Lu Tianyang would have been dead on the spot. He took a deep breath. "I know women love to play hard to get. Ye Ya, just admit it."
With that, Lu Tianyang attempted to climb onto the bed, but Ye Ya pushed against his chest. "Who likes you? You're disgusting! Don't come up here; go sleep on the sofa or get out!"
Ye Ya thought she understood this man well enough. If she let him into her bed tonight, he'd likely find an excuse to come back every day. Who did he think he was?
She pushed him hard, but Lu Tianyang was still a man; it wasn't so easy to shove him aside. In an instant, they were tangled up together, and before they knew it, the towel around his waist was yanked away.
Ye Ya screamed in shock and froze. Lu Tianyang hadn't expected things to unfold this way either; seeing her flustered expression unexpectedly thrilled him.
"You... you," Ye Ya stammered as she quickly turned her head away, momentarily at a loss for words.
At that moment, a loud noise echoed in the room. Ye Ya rushed over and picked up the child. "Lu Tianyang, hurry up and put some clothes on! Stop disgusting me! Chen Chen, I'm sorry for waking you!" As she comforted the child in her arms, she couldn't help but scold that shameless man.
Lu Tianyang felt a bit wronged and quickly took a bathrobe from the wardrobe. "Xiao Ya, I didn’t mean to; it was you who pulled my towel off."
"You still say that? Xiao Ya isn’t what you called her," Ye Ya shot him a glare, cradling the baby as she walked over to the sofa to nurse. She cast a wary glance at Lu Tianyang, and his innocent expression only fueled her irritation.
Lu Tianyang approached her anyway. The little one had milk to drink and soon stopped crying. Feeling somewhat embarrassed, he said, "Sweetheart, Mommy and Daddy didn’t mean to wake you up."
"How disgusting! You should stay out of this room from now on." Ye Ya felt that being with him for so long had made her shameless.
"You’re so cruel, not letting us see each other. Chen Chen, Daddy loves you; we have to be together." Lu Tianyang took the tiny hand of the baby, and Chen Chen immediately grasped his fingers. At that moment, Lu Tianyang shamelessly declared, "See? My daughter likes me."
In truth, babies grab onto whatever they can; it’s perfectly normal. Yet somehow, this became Lu Tianyang's excuse.
Ye Ya was furious. After finishing feeding the baby, she handed Chen Chen over to him. "Then you take care of her."
Lu Tianyang had never held a baby before because he worried he might be too clumsy with such a tiny creature. As he took her in his arms and saw her rare open eyes looking at him, his heart swelled with love. This was his child.
"Chen Chen, call Daddy." After saying that, Lu Tianyang couldn’t help but give her a kiss, thinking that it was better for his daughter’s first kiss to be from him than from some rascals when she grew up.
Ye Ya was speechless and didn’t want to deal with it anymore. But before long, Lu Tianyang called out again, "Xiao Ya, I think Chen Chen has pooped."
Now Lu Tianyang was nervous; he had never changed a diaper himself. He had always just helped out from the side or left it to the postpartum doula.
Hearing this, Ye Ya had no choice but to come over. Sure enough, the little one had indeed made a mess and started crying pitifully.
"Chen Chen, don’t cry; Mommy is here." Ye Ya took the baby in her arms and turned to Lu Tianyang. "Get a basin of hot water quickly!"
Lu Dad received the order and rushed over like an arrow, filling a basin with hot water in the bathroom. Ye Ya looked at the little one, whose bottom was all dirty, and wondered how she could feel comfortable without washing it first.
Holding the baby in one arm, Ye Ya instructed Lu Tianyang to clean the child's bottom and change into a fresh diaper. Finally, the baby's cries subsided.
Lu Tianyang was sweating profusely, his hands smeared with the child's mess. Ye Ya glanced at him and couldn't help but remind, "Lu Tianyang, your hands are dirty; you might as well throw away the diaper too."
He looked down and realized she was right. He was a man who valued cleanliness, something Ye Ya had noticed in his home. At that moment, his expression didn’t show any disgust as he casually picked up the soiled diaper Chen Chen had left behind and walked out.
This man, who seemed so high and mighty, truly cared for Chen Chen.
When Lu Tianyang returned, he glanced at the mother and child on the sofa. "Xiao Ya, I'm going to take a shower."
Ye Ya didn’t respond, and he didn’t seem to mind. This left her somewhat puzzled. What exactly was Lu Tianyang’s attitude? Was it because of the child that he felt responsible for them, or was there something more?
She remembered their first meeting at the Jing Family; he had been a man held in high regard by everyone around him, his gaze dismissive of everything else. Yet now, he was willing to change diapers for the child and wanted to marry her.
Ye Ya found it increasingly difficult to understand him.
After taking a shower, Lu Tianyang came out to find Ye Ya had already lulled the baby to sleep. It was nearly midnight now, and an awkward silence hung between them.
Lu Tianyang sat down at the edge of the bed. "Xiao Ya, I promise to respect you completely; you don’t have to be afraid."
"I don’t trust you," Ye Ya admitted frankly; in truth, there were very few people she could trust.
"Foolish girl, you can trust me. I will protect both of you," Lu Tianyang vowed. No matter what happened, he was determined to marry Ye Ya and ensure their child would have a rightful place by his side.
He spoke as if he meant it, and Ye Ya couldn't help but glance at him. His expression did seem sincere, but she couldn't determine whether it was genuine or not, because people from wealthy families were all too good at acting, herself included; sometimes she could be just as hypocritical.
“Lu Tianyang, can we discuss something?” Ye Ya felt that since the child belonged to both of them, it was necessary to coexist peacefully and not act like enemies.
It was rare for her to be so compliant, so Lu Tianyang nodded. “Xiao Ya, go ahead. What is it?”
“Lu Tianyang, I’ve been living here for over half a month. I want to move back home in a few days. As for the child, you can come to see him whenever you like.”
“Is there something wrong with living here?” Lu Tianyang genuinely didn’t understand what this woman was thinking.
“It’s not that living here is bad, but I don’t feel at ease. I want to go home; do you understand?” Only at home could she truly feel secure. Living here made her anxious; she feared that one day someone might suddenly come and throw them out. It was better to make plans early and live in her own home, where no one could force her out.
Lu Tianyang took her hand and said helplessly, “Xiao Ya, this place will also be your home and the child’s home from now on. Our home.”
“It’s different, Lu Tianyang. You wouldn’t understand. I can’t feel at ease here; I always feel like I’m just staying in someone else’s house. I don’t like this feeling. I have my own home. Please let me and the child go back home. I’m begging you.” Even if the entire house combined was smaller than just one room here, it was still her own home—a feeling that no luxurious mansion could provide.
