Ye Ya truly felt exhausted, both mentally and physically. After walking for over an hour in high heels, her heels were already blistered, and she simply lacked the strength to further contemplate Lu Tianyang's words. 0

Moreover, even though she didn't enjoy eating, there was some truth in what the Ye Family said. The fact remained that she and Lu Tianyang were indeed mismatched—a hard truth she had once tried to forget. 0

“Lu Tianyang, you don’t need to explain anything to me. It’s your freedom to be with whoever you want, and I have no interest in knowing. Just go, can you? I’m begging you,” Ye Ya said as she pushed him away. Once he calmed down, he realized his entire body ached. It wasn’t a big deal after all; she had long since grown accustomed to the Ye Family's ways. 0

After all these years without the Ye Family, perhaps just surviving was a challenge for her. What was there to complain about? If anything, she could only blame herself for being foolish and still trying to grasp at the taste of familial love. 0

“I’m not leaving. I won’t go,” Lu Tianyang insisted, ignoring her pushes as he pulled her close. 0

Ye Ya frowned as his grip tightened painfully on her shoulders. How much force had Ye Zhen used when he struck her? Was it the physical pain or the emotional hurt that made everything feel so agonizing? 0

“Lu Tianyang, let go of me. It hurts,” Ye Ya couldn’t help but voice her discomfort. This was pointless; why did Lu Tianyang have to do this? 0

Hearing her words, Lu Tianyang released her and turned her around. He tugged at her nightgown, revealing even more severe bruises that were shocking to behold. He took out a bottle of medicinal alcohol from the drawer and rubbed it into his hands until they warmed up before pressing them against her shoulders. 0

Ye Ya’s brow furrowed involuntarily. Seeing her pain made Lu Tianyang’s heart ache. He gently asked, “Xiao Ya, does it hurt a lot? Try to endure it a bit longer. If not, I can take you to see a doctor; I don’t know if you have any internal injuries. Don’t worry, I won’t let them get away with this.” 0

Ye Ya pushed his hand away and adjusted her nightgown. “Thank you for your concern; I’m fine. Just go.” 0

At that moment, Lu Tianyang noticed more injuries on her arms and that her toes were bleeding. Anger surged through him as veins bulged on his forehead. “Ye Ya, how dare they do this to you? I will never let them off.” 0

With that, Lu Tianyang abruptly stood up from the bed, ready to leave. 0

Ye Ya noticed that he didn’t seem to be joking around and feared further complications. She quickly grabbed his arm. “Lu Tianyang, what are you doing? This has nothing to do with you!” 0

“You are my wife, the mother of my child! You think this doesn’t concern me? They dared to hurt you like this; I absolutely cannot allow it!” Lu Tianyang’s expression was frighteningly intense, filled with murderous intent that left no room for doubt about his words. 0

“I’m fine, don’t make a fuss. I don’t want to have anything to do with the Ye Family anymore, and if there’s anyone to blame, it’s me for being foolish.” She had been naive enough to think she still had some standing in that family, but she had miscalculated; she had been too innocent. 0

“Who hit you then?” Lu Tianyang’s eyes were fixed on Ye Ya, as if he wouldn’t let it go until she answered. 0

“My grandfather did,” Ye Ya replied straightforwardly; it wasn’t a big deal. 0

“Why did your grandfather hit you?” Lu Tianyang found it hard to believe that Ye Zhen could be so harsh with Ye Ya. 0

“Because I hit Ye Qi and got into a fight with Zhao Meiqin.” At this point, Ye Ya actually laughed. “It was my first time hitting someone in the Ye Family; they must all be in disbelief.” 0

She had always been the one getting bullied, who would have thought that the quiet Ye Ya would dare to strike back? The entire Ye Family couldn’t believe it. 0

“So, Lu Tianyang, I didn’t suffer any loss, and there’s no need to settle scores with them.” Ye Ya wore a carefree smile that deeply pained Lu Tianyang. She looked so sad, yet she pretended to be indifferent. 0

Lu Tianyang pulled her into his arms and gently kissed her forehead. “Xiao Ya, I’m sorry. If I hadn’t left back then, you wouldn’t have been bullied like this.” 0

Ye Ya didn’t respond; she let him hold her. This feeling was so unfamiliar that she didn’t know how to react. 0

He lifted her up and carried her horizontally to the bed. At that moment, Lu Tianyang held her foot. “What happened here?” 0

“I hurt it while walking. I left my wallet at the Ye Family and have no money for a ride. Plus, I’m afraid Chen Chen will come looking for me.” 0

Seeing her like this pierced Lu Tianyang’s heart deeply. This woman was so stubborn that he truly didn’t know what to do with her. 0

“Ye Ya, let’s get married. Let me protect you from now on, okay?” Lu Tianyang hadn’t prepared anything, but at this moment, he just wanted to formally propose to her. From now on, he would be the one to guard her. 0

The words hung in the air like honey, too sweet for Ye Ya to comprehend. She thought to herself that Lu Tianyang must be crazy, or perhaps she had misheard him. What was happening in this world? 0

She remained silent, wanting to pull the blanket over her head and sleep, but Lu Tianyang held her down, forcibly pulling her up. "Ye Ya, I'm serious." 0

"Oh," she replied, unsure of what else to say. 0

Lu Tianyang was nearly exasperated. Was it normal to respond to a marriage proposal with just an "oh"? 0

"Are you saying you don't like that I don't have a ring or flowers? I can go buy some right now." It was evident that men and women often thought on entirely different wavelengths. 0

"Lu Tianyang, you’re insane," Ye Ya said, staring at him blankly as if that was all she could muster. 0

"Even if I’m crazy, I still want to marry you. Will you be my wife?" He was anxious; he had never felt this way before. He knew that this woman didn’t love him at this moment, yet he still wanted to bind her to him with a marriage contract. That way, he would have a legitimate reason to keep her by his side. 0

"I don’t know. Don’t pressure me," Ye Ya felt overwhelmed by the events of the night; her usually sharp mind seemed to short-circuit. Despite knowing she shouldn’t trust this man, looking into his eyes made her believe his words. 0

He said he wanted to marry her even if he was crazy. 0

He sighed and sat beside her, observing the dazed expression on her face. Ultimately, he couldn’t bear to push her any further. 0

"Does it still hurt?" He took her delicate hand in his; the bruises were particularly prominent from the fight with Zhao Meiqin. 0

She shook her head, as if the pain had faded away. She didn’t want to recall that scene any longer. 0

He turned and climbed onto the bed, leaving Ye Ya stunned once more. "Lu Tianyang, what are you doing?" 0

Lu Tianyang lay down, extending his arm to pull her closer, allowing her to rest on his shoulder. He whispered gently in her ear, "Sleep peacefully; no one will bully you again." 0

Ye Ya rested on his arm, attempting to rise but was held tightly by Lu Tianyang. After a while, she gave up struggling. 0

His embrace felt warm, gradually relaxing her. Ye Ya was indeed tired and soon fell asleep. 0

Perhaps she truly craved this warmth, unconsciously tightening her hold on him. Lu Tianyang found it difficult to sleep; she was like a hedgehog, covering herself with thorns merely to protect herself. Yet deep down, her heart was so soft and so lacking in security. 0

From the very beginning, it might have been just for the child, but unknowingly, this woman had seeped into his blood. 0

In the middle of the night, Ye Ya began to have nightmares. She dreamed of being in the Ye Family, where everyone was beating her. She struggled desperately but could not break free, instinctively crying out, "Mom, save me." 0

In the depths of her memory was her mother, but her mother was so far away now and would never return, leaving her to live in such loneliness. 0

Lu Tianyang slept lightly and immediately heard Ye Ya's voice. Her expression was troubled, beads of sweat forming on her forehead. He knew she was having a nightmare. He would not let the people of the Ye Family off easily; he wanted them to know that his woman was not someone they could easily bully. 0

"Xiao Ya, wake up. Don't be afraid." Lu Tianyang watched as she struggled in her nightmare, feeling a sharp pain in his heart. 0

Hearing his voice, Ye Ya woke up and immediately clung to Lu Tianyang's waist. "Mom, I miss you so much." 0

Listening to her words, Lu Tianyang felt a mix of helplessness and amusement; it seemed that he had not provided her with enough security. 0

"Xiao Ya, it's okay now; don't be afraid." Lu Tianyang gently patted her shoulder as Ye Ya cried sorrowfully in his arms. She had been too composed; perhaps releasing some emotions would help. 0

"Lu Tianyang, I miss my mom. Why did she leave me so early? It's so hard for me living alone in the Ye Family." She had never shared these feelings with anyone before. As an illegitimate daughter entering the Ye Family, Zhao Meiqin had always treated her as a thorn in her side, wanting nothing more than to get rid of her. 0

She had learned to live cautiously since she was five, trying to please everyone around her, afraid that one misstep would lead to her being cast out. She could only work twice as hard to make herself better, yet despite her efforts, the Ye Family still could not accept her. To the Ye Family, when she became a useless pawn, it was time for her to leave. 0

“Don’t be afraid. From now on, I’m here to protect you. Everything will be alright.” Lu Tianyang truly didn’t know how to comfort her at that moment; he could only hold her tightly, letting her tears soak his clothes. It pained him deeply, as if she were shedding blood instead of tears, and he felt the hurt as if it were his own. 0

He didn’t know how long they cried. Ye Ya’s eyes were swollen, and her rationality began to return. When she looked at Lu Tianyang again, she suddenly felt foolish. “Lu Tianyang, am I very silly?” 0

Lu Tianyang nodded and then gently kissed away the tears on her face before pressing his lips against hers. 0

She was so beautiful. 0

“Xiao Ya, you are mine. From now on, you can only belong to me. You are Lu Tianyang’s woman. Do you remember that?” Lu Tianyang laid her down on the bed and looked down at her. Her gaze was somewhat dazed as she stared at him, unsure of what to say. 0

Lu Tianyang took her hand and placed it on his face. “I am also yours. We are a family of three together; we won’t be apart.” 0

“Lu Tianyang, I don’t want this. Let me go.” 0

“No, I want you to know that you are mine.” 0
