Ye Ya quickly got out of bed. She had been so exhausted the night before that she completely forgot to call back, and now she had no idea if Chen Chen was behaving at home. Thinking about it, she felt like a rather inadequate mother.
"I wonder how Chen Chen is doing. Lu Tianyang, it's all your fault," Ye Ya said as she got dressed, blaming the man who had caused her troubles.
"I already called home last night. Chen Chen is very well-behaved. Besides, there are so many people at home taking care of her. Are you still worried?" Lu Tianyang replied.
Hearing his words, Ye Ya fastened her buttons and couldn't help but turn to look at him. "When did you call back? I didn't even know."
Lu Tianyang reached out his hand, gesturing for her to come closer, and took the opportunity to kiss her on the cheek. "I called after you fell asleep, silly. Chen Chen is doing great at home; don’t worry."
"It's all your fault! If it weren't for you, would I have forgotten to call back?" Ye Ya shot a glance at the man responsible for her current predicament, still surprised that they were already married.
"Alright, it's all my fault. I admit it, dear. How can I make it up to you?" Lu Tianyang pondered this question with some frustration. Newlyweds as they were, he wanted nothing more than to hold her a little longer, but seeing how eager she was to return home, he had no choice but to get up.
After having breakfast at the hotel, Lu Tianyang took Ye Ya back home. Now Ye Ya was sure her cold was completely gone, and she could finally hold Chen Chen without worry. Although the little one was only a few months old, she had already started recognizing faces; her expression changed when she saw Ye Ya.
Lu Tianyang felt a twinge of jealousy towards his daughter. Just married, and already his wife was being monopolized by Chen Chen—yet he felt powerless in the situation. Ye Ya teased him for being jealous of their daughter.
Zuo Kai sent a message saying that the old president was busy at the company and overwhelmed with work. Lu Tianyang couldn't help but smile slightly, thinking about how long his father could keep this up. It was time to take Ye Ya back to see Grandpa first; once Grandpa approved, things would be much easier with his parents.
Returning to his study, Lu Tianyang dialed the home phone. At this time, only Grandpa was at home. Hearing that they were bringing his great-granddaughter back, the old man's mood brightened significantly. He urged Lu Tianyang to hurry and not waste any more time.
Ye Ya fed the baby and played with her for a while until the little one fell asleep again. Lu Tianyang walked in and took her hand. "Dear, let’s go back to see Grandpa this afternoon, okay? He really wants to see Chen Chen."
Thinking about returning to the Ye Family meant facing her parents, Ye Ya knew it was something she would have to confront sooner or later; she could only nod in agreement.
Lu Tianyang sat down and gently patted her head. "Don't be nervous. This afternoon, we're just visiting Grandpa. Mom and Dad won't be there. I'll take you to see them later, and I'll always be by your side."
"Lu Tianyang, I know. Since I've married you, meeting your family is only natural. It's just that I'm a bit uneasy about meeting your grandfather for the first time," Ye Ya said, lowering her head. It was her fault; her reputation was so poor because she hadn't handled things well in the past.
"It's fine. Just remember, you are my wife now, Lu Tianyang's wife. Everything will be alright," Lu Tianyang said, noticing the troubled expression on her face, and leaned in to kiss her.
Ye Ya glanced over at Chen Chen, who was still sleeping nearby. She pushed him gently. "No, Chen Chen is right there."
"He's asleep and won't see anything. Besides, he's just a child; he doesn't understand anything," Lu Tianyang replied with frustration. He couldn't just carry Chen Chen out; if he did, Ye Ya would definitely object.
"Don't! It's broad daylight! What if someone sees us? Lu Tianyang, get up quickly! We still have to meet your grandfather this afternoon; we need to prepare!" Ye Ya insisted firmly, refusing to let him have his way. But Lu Tianyang was not someone who could easily be dismissed; a kiss should be acceptable, right?
After a while, Ye Ya got angry. As a black belt in Taekwondo, she was more than capable of resisting if she wanted to.
"Lu Tianyang!" Ye Ya exclaimed after escaping from him, furious.
"I'm your husband now. Unless you call me 'husband' right now, I won't kiss you," he teased.
Ye Ya was speechless; he was at it again, using this tactic to threaten her.
"Hurry up and call me 'husband,'" Lu Tianyang urged, feeling increasingly frustrated himself. Why couldn't he kiss his own wife? Perhaps he didn't even realize how possessive he was becoming over Ye Ya.
"Lu Tianyang, you jerk!" Ye Ya fumed. Sometimes he seemed so useless, but when it came down to it, she was no match for him in a real fight.
At noon, after Ye Ya had just finished eating, two boxes were delivered to them. Curiously, she asked, "Lu Tianyang, what are these?"
"Wife, these are gifts for Grandpa. He loves tea; this is Yu Qian Longjing and Junshan Silver Needle," Lu Tianyang explained. "And please don't call me by my full name all the time in front of him; especially avoid it in front of Grandpa, alright?" He sighed inwardly at having such an oblivious wife and realized he would have to teach her slowly.
“Oh.” When the word "husband" slipped from her lips, Ye Ya felt a wave of discomfort wash over her. She couldn't quite understand why; perhaps it was because her relationship with Lu Tianyang resembled a cliché from a movie. She had never imagined that one day she would marry a man like him.
In the afternoon, Ye Ya changed into a neat and elegant dress. She had tried on several outfits, but Lu Tianyang's responses were always the same. Ye Ya insisted that he wasn’t paying attention, while he earnestly replied, “I just think my wife looks the best.”
Ultimately, she settled on a simple, solid-colored dress. With her hair styled in a casual updo, she cradled Chen Chen and headed out.
This was her first visit to the Lu Family home, which appeared even more luxurious than the Ye Family residence. The stone pillars at the entrance were intricately carved, and under Lu Tianyang's guidance, she couldn't help but exclaim, “Lu Tianyang, your house is really big.”
The view was breathtaking; lush green lawns stretched out before her, and there were even several black roses planted throughout the garden. A beautiful artificial fountain graced the front yard.
“What do you mean? This will be your home with Chen Chen from now on,” Lu Tianyang said as he wrapped his arm around her shoulders, and together they walked inside.
Old Man Lu had already been informed by the gatekeeper of his grandson's arrival as soon as their car pulled up.
Ye Ya felt a wave of nervousness wash over her as she looked at the stern-faced Old Man Lu. Despite Lu Tianyang's assurances that his grandfather was quite gentle, seeing him in person made her anxious. Perhaps it was because he had a military background; his stern expression was unmistakable.
“Grandpa, Xiao Ya and Chen Chen are here to see you. Xiao Ya, greet your grandpa,” Lu Tianyang said while placing the freshly delivered tea leaves on the table.
“Why are you bringing things back to your own home?” The old man remarked, looking at his grandson who was acting overly polite as if he were a guest. It had been some time since he last visited due to recent family disputes.
“Grandpa, I’m sorry for only bringing Chen Chen to see you now.”
“It’s good that you’re here. So this is Chen Chen? Let me take a look.” With that, Old Man Lu prepared a large red envelope to give to Chen Chen, following tradition.
The old man quickly became enamored with the child and soon asked to hold him. Chen Chen, who had been sleeping, woke up and blinked his eyes before looking curiously at Ye Ya.
The little one continued to stare at the old man, clearly curious as it was her first time seeing Lu Old Man. Her eyes sparkled with innocence and charm.
“Chen Chen, this is your great-grandfather. What a good girl you are,” Lu Old Man beamed at his great-granddaughter, his face lighting up with joy.
Ye Ya watched Lu Old Man’s affectionate expression towards Chen Chen and couldn’t help but feel relieved. It didn’t matter whether the Lu Family liked her or not; what was important was that they acknowledged Chen Chen. This way, in the Lu Family, Chen Chen wouldn’t have to suffer any grievances.
Most importantly, she didn’t want her daughter to have to tread carefully like she once did, always trying to please everyone. In the Lu Family, she wanted Chen Chen to be a happy little princess.
After holding her for a while, Lu Old Man casually asked, “Have you chosen a date for the wedding?”
Lu Tianyang took Ye Ya’s hand and sat down on the other side of the sofa. “Grandpa, what do you think about the 28th at the end of the month? I checked the calendar; it’s a good day and very suitable for a wedding.”
“Ah, you little rascal! If that’s the case, then go ahead and arrange it. The eldest grandson of the Lu Family shouldn’t have a shabby wedding. Make sure it’s done well; I’ll talk to your parents about it. We can’t let them down,” Lu Old Man said generously, especially considering his great-granddaughter.
In truth, he had no other choice. With the marriage certificate already obtained, legally Ye Ya was now part of the Lu Family. And since they had already welcomed their child into the world and Lu Tianyang was so insistent, he could only compromise.
“Thank you, Grandpa,” Lu Tianyang said, holding Ye Ya’s hand and smiling at her.
“Alright then, stay here for dinner tonight. Don’t go back,” the old man commanded. Lu Tianyang dared not defy him; after all, he still needed his grandfather to persuade his parents.
In the evening, Du Huiru returned from the beauty salon and was immediately furious upon seeing Ye Ya in their home.
“What are you doing here?” she exclaimed, shocked that Ye Ya had dared to enter their house like this.
Before Du Huiru could erupt in anger, Lu Tianyang quickly stepped forward and took the small bag from her hands. “Mom, why did you buy such a little bit? You should have gotten more! I brought Xiao Ya and Chen Chen back to see you.”
“You still know how to come home? I thought that little vixen had bewitched you, and you didn’t even want your parents anymore,” Du Huiru said bluntly.
“Mom, isn’t it obvious that I brought my wife and child back to see you?” Lu Tianyang shot her a glance. Ye Ya nodded and took the opportunity to pour a cup of tea. The mother-in-law issue seemed like an eternal enemy throughout history, especially since Du Huiru had never liked her. To make life easier in the future, Ye Ya could only endure whatever difficulties came her way.
“Mom, I was being inconsiderate. Please forgive me,” Ye Ya said as she walked over, offering the tea with a sincere attitude.
Du Huiru sneered, “Miss Ye, don’t get it twisted. I can’t accept you calling me ‘Mom.’”
Ye Ya’s hand hovered in the air, unsure whether to retract it or leave it there.
“Mom, Xiao Ya and I are already married. She will be your daughter-in-law from now on,” Lu Tianyang said as he stepped forward and took the teacup from Ye Ya’s hands.
Upon hearing Lu Tianyang’s words, Du Huiru felt as if a thunderclap had echoed in her ears. “What did you say? Say that again.”
“Huiru, it was my decision to have them come back. They are already legally married. No matter what, Chen Chen is also a child of the Lu family,” Lu Old Man interjected. At this moment, whether it was Lu Tianyang or Ye Ya speaking would only add fuel to the fire.
