Watching Fu Wan Jing enter, Ye Ya took Chen Chen back from Lu Tianyang's arms. "Go on, she's here to see you."
Lu Tianyang turned to Ye Ya, took her hand without caring whether she agreed or not. "Wife, let's go together. You are my wife."
Fu Wan Jing came in with gifts, and even Guo Ma had sent her a present. Lu Old Man looked at the granddaughter of his old comrade with the same affection he had for his own grandchildren. He often thought how wonderful it would be if Wan Jing married Lu Tianyang.
"Wan Jing, you’ve been gone for so many years. How heartless of you to abandon your grandpa," Lu Old Man said, feeling both pained and nostalgic upon seeing her.
"Indeed, if you had come back sooner, my daughter-in-law would definitely be you," Du Huiru added with a sigh, revealing that she had always envisioned Wan Jing as her daughter-in-law.
When Ye Ya entered and heard Du Huiru's words, she couldn't help but pause for a moment. She was unsure of what to do next, but Lu Tianyang didn't give her a chance to hesitate and pulled her over. "Wan Jing, how are you feeling? I haven't properly introduced you yet; this is my wife, Ye Ya."
As Lu Tianyang introduced her, Fu Wan Jing felt as if she had been struck by a knife in her heart. She nodded slightly and said, "Hello, I am Fu Wan Jing."
"Hello," Ye Ya replied with a slight nod, acknowledging her. As she stepped closer, she noticed that Fu Wan Jing was even more beautiful than before; her delicate features were nearly flawless—a typical Eastern beauty.
The atmosphere grew awkward as no one knew how to break the silence. Lu Old Man and Du Huiru both felt it was such a pity. Fu Wan Jing's gaze remained fixed on Lu Tianyang.
Ye Ya wasn't naive; it was clear that Lu Tianyang and Fu Wan Jing had once shared a close relationship. She wasn't particularly interested in the details of their breakup.
At that moment, Chen Chen suddenly began to cry. Ye Ya held her and comforted her for a moment. "I’ll go upstairs to feed her; she must be hungry."
Ye Ya forced a smile, wondering if it was some sort of maternal instinct at play—was Chen Chen aware that she wanted to leave this situation and was deliberately finding an excuse for her to do so? What a clever little one.
Fu Wan Jing looked at the baby in Ye Ya's arms and furrowed her brows slightly, unable to help but ask, "Lu Tianyang, is this your child?"
"Indeed, if it weren't for her having Chen Chen, do you think she could have entered the Lu Family? It's all because of the child." Ye Ya overheard this, and Du Huiru's words were harsh but undeniably true. Was her relationship with Lu Tianyang really like that?
"Mom, let's not talk about this anymore. Wan Jing, did you come to see me for something?" Lu Tianyang was anxious; he feared that Ye Ya would misunderstand even more.
"Lu Tianyang, thank you for taking me to the hospital that day." Fu Wan Jing listened to Du Huiru's words and glanced at Lu Tianyang. She knew that day was his wedding day, yet he chose to take her to the hospital. To him, she still mattered.
He married that woman named Ye Ya simply because she seduced him and had a child, which allowed her to enter the Lu Family.
"I'm glad you're okay." After so many years apart, Lu Tianyang was genuinely surprised to see Fu Wan Jing. He thought, if only she had appeared earlier, would things have turned out differently?
Shaking his head at this thought, he reminded himself that no matter what, he had met Ye Ya, and they had a lovely child together. He couldn't let her down any further.
"Wan Jing, why didn't you say you were coming sooner? I’ll have someone prepare your favorite dishes," Du Huiru said as she pulled Fu Wan Jing aside to chat. The servants had already begun serving the food, and after a moment of consideration, Lu Tianyang decided to return to his room.
Meanwhile, Ye Ya was changing the baby’s diaper while nursing Chen Chen. When she saw Lu Tianyang come upstairs, she was puzzled. Why was he back so soon? Didn't he need to be with Fu Wan Jing?
"Wife, let the nanny take care of the baby for now. Come eat; we can go down together," Lu Tianyang said, fearing that she might become even angrier. He hadn't expected Fu Wan Jing to show up so suddenly; it caught him off guard.
"Wife, my past with Wan Jing is over. You are my wife—only you," he said, unsure if this would make her feel any better. These days had been tough not just for her but for him as well.
"Lu Tianyang, if our marriage is to continue, please consider our daughter's feelings. You know what kind of relationship you have with Fu Wan Jing. There's no need to explain it to me." As she watched Chen Chen nursing and eventually drifting off to sleep, she thought how simple life was for a child; as long as they were fed, they had no worries.
"I’m just friends with her now. Please believe me," Lu Tianyang pleaded, unsure how to explain. It was unexpected for him that after all this time, Fu Wan Jing would return—especially on his wedding day.
“Hmm, I didn’t say anything to you. What’s it to me? Come on, let’s go eat. We have to eat something.” Even if she didn’t want to eat, she still had to consider Chen Chen; after all, he needed to be fed.
Ye Ya’s indifferent attitude left Lu Tianyang at a loss. When Fu Wan Jing saw Lu Tianyang pulling Ye Ya down, her expression darkened for a moment, but she quickly masked it.
“Do you really need someone to invite you to a meal? I wonder if you even have any manners. No wonder your mother died early; it’s normal that no one taught you.”
Du Huiru picked at every little thing, and while Ye Ya could endure it, why did she have to bring up her mother? Ye Ya struggled to suppress her anger.
“Mom, Xiao Ya went to feed the baby. If you really can’t stand her, I’ll take her away.” Lu Tianyang knew Ye Ya was upset and tightly held her hand, intertwining their fingers firmly.
“Enough already, stop arguing. Let’s sit down and eat. Wan Jing is here today; don’t embarrass yourselves.” Lu Old Man glanced helplessly at Du Huiru. The situation was set in stone, and Lu Jianming didn’t want to say anything more. However, hearing that Lu Tianyang wanted to leave home again was something he couldn’t agree with.
“Lu Tianyang, just stay at home. What’s the point of moving out? Let’s all eat.”
Ye Ya suppressed her anger and quietly withdrew her hand. In the Lu Family, even having a meal felt like a battle.
She had to endure it; she could only endure it for Chen Chen. At least for now, she couldn’t leave the Lu Family.
She told herself silently, Ye Ya, you must succeed so that one day Chen Chen can grow up in a happy environment.
“Wan Jing, eat more! You should come over often. I’ve always thought how wonderful it would be if you could marry into the Ye Family.” After saying this, Du Huiru kept piling food onto Fu Wan Jing's plate until it resembled a small mountain.
“Auntie, please stop! You know I love osmanthus fish; eat more of that instead! Lu Tianyang, this is your favorite; eat more!”
Watching Fu Wan Jing clearly understand the Lu Family's tastes made Ye Ya realize just how close she had been with Lu Tianyang in the past. Silently, she picked at her food, focusing on the dishes in front of her. It didn’t matter what she ate or whether it was to her liking; all that mattered was that it was nutritious and filling.
“Wife, eat more,” Lu Tianyang said, noticing her silence as he placed a piece of her favorite chicken on her plate.
Suddenly, Ye Ya felt that the Lu Family was just waiting to see her make a fool of herself, especially Fu Wan Jing and Du Huiru.
She nodded and forced a smile that she hoped looked genuine, casually picking up a piece of meat for Lu Tianyang. “Honey, you work hard earning money; you should eat more.”
Hearing her call him "honey," Lu Tianyang paused for a moment, unable to suppress a smile. It had been so long since he had heard her say that.
As they showed their affection for each other, Fu Wan Jing and Du Huiru, sitting across from them, grew increasingly uncomfortable. Ye Ya felt a wave of frustration wash over her as she realized that they had been trying to undermine her. If they wanted to play dirty, then why not make it difficult for everyone?
Ye Ya couldn't help but mock herself inwardly; if this were ancient times in a harem, she would indeed have the potential to be a scheming concubine. Who cared about righteousness? To hell with being gracious; why should she let them bully her so easily?
After dinner, Ye Ya deliberately lingered to chat. She didn’t say much but wrapped her arm around Lu Tianyang’s, gazing at him like a lovesick bird. By the time Fu Wan Jing left, she wore an unmistakably dejected expression.
Back in their room, Lu Tianyang wrapped his arms around Ye Ya’s waist and cheerfully asked, “Wife, have you forgiven me?”
Ye Ya turned to face him, playfully pinching his fingers apart. “Dream on! I just think it’s ridiculous that I should let myself be bullied. I bet Fu Wan Jing hates me now; your mother too—Fu Wan Jing is the daughter-in-law she always wanted.”
With that, a wicked smile crept onto Ye Ya's lips. “Lu Tianyang, are you regretting this? Do you want a divorce?”
Looking at her expression, Lu Tianyang knew that the beautiful moment just now was merely an act. This damned woman! He irritably tugged at his tie. "You want to get a divorce but don't? Ye Ya, let me tell you, you're just dreaming."
Ye Ya crossed her arms and nodded. "Lu Tianyang, I won’t tolerate your mother anymore, nor your old flames. You better think this through." In the past, she had endured for Lu Tianyang's sake, not wanting to be caught in the middle. Now, there was no need for that; she didn't have to remain silent and be a bullied little wife.
"You don’t need to endure; as long as you don’t go too far, I’ll stand by you. How much longer are you going to be angry? I haven’t held you in ages." Lu Tianyang had already surrendered. He finally understood how terrifying a truly angry Ye Ya could be; she was someone who wouldn’t yield to soft words or threats.
Damn it, why did he care so much about her?
Ye Ya twirled a strand of her long black hair and pointed at his chest. "Lu Tianyang, this is what you said. But don’t think I’ve forgiven you. If you dare to touch me, I’ll make sure you regret it."
Hearing her words, Lu Tianyang couldn’t help but laugh. "Wife, you’re really adorable. If you make me regret it, wouldn’t that make you a widow? Can you really bear that?"
"Get lost! Stay away from me and Chen Chen!" Ye Ya was too lazy to argue further with him and directly grabbed her clothes and went into the bathroom.
Lu Tianyang rubbed his head and looked at the closed door. He glanced at his daughter, who had already fallen asleep, and sighed. "Chen Chen, when you grow up, don’t learn your mother’s temper. I doubt many men can handle her. Sigh, poor me for being your dad."
Only she would dare to scold him so freely while thinking about leaving him every day. Even with a child together, she felt unbound. But Ye Ya, I won’t let you go—absolutely not. No way!
