The next day, Fu Wan Jing arrived at the café, meticulously dressed. She felt a bit strange about Lu Tianyang inviting her to such a place, but regardless, her heart raced with excitement, and her palms felt sweaty. She wondered what Lu Tianyang would say to her; after all, she had taken the initiative to kiss him that day. Surely he understood her feelings.
Ye Ya, on the other hand, remained calm. She got up to apply her makeup and changed into a long dress designed by Tao Momo. The dress was a subtle beige with a fitted waist, exuding understated charm. She simply styled her hair into an elegant updo. She couldn't afford to lose in terms of presence; while Fu Wan Jing was indeed beautiful, she wanted Lu Tianyang to know that she was the one he would choose for the future.
Lu Tianyang was just like before. When he saw Ye Ya checking herself in the mirror, he walked over and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind. "Wife, you look stunning."
"Of course! I can't let Fu Wan Jing outshine me; I'm going to assert my claim," Ye Ya replied as she picked up her lip balm and applied it lightly before satisfiedly capping it.
"Let's go."
As Lu Tianyang and Ye Ya headed downstairs, Du Huiru furrowed her brows slightly. Why was Ye Ya dressed so flamboyantly early in the morning? Who was she trying to attract?
"Lu Tianyang, aren't you supposed to be at work? What are you taking her out for this early?" Du Huiru shot a disapproving look at Ye Ya.
"Mom, I'm just taking Xiao Ya out for some errands," Lu Tianyang replied cautiously, not daring to mention that he was bringing Ye Ya to confront Fu Wan Jing. Both his grandfather and mother were fond of Wan Jing; if they found out about this, there would be another argument.
Once they got into the car, Ye Ya couldn't help but ask, "Lu Tianyang, do you think I'm being unreasonable?"
If she was being unreasonable, he feared that it meant she didn't care about anything anymore. And speaking of being a jerk, he knew he was even worse.
"Wife, it's fine. As long as you're happy," he reassured her.
Hearing Lu Tianyang say this made Ye Ya feel a twinge of guilt, but that feeling was quickly suppressed by reason. This kind of sentiment couldn't linger; otherwise, would there still be peaceful days between her and Lu Tianyang in the future?
Fu Wan Jing arrived right on time. When she saw Lu Tianyang, her face lit up with a smile. However, she never expected to see Ye Ya there too—the insufferable woman! What was she doing here?
Ye Ya linked her arm with his and walked over with a bright smile. Fu Wan Jing's expression darkened further; it felt like one was in bright sunshine while the other was in gloomy rain.
"Wan Jing, I'm sorry to keep you waiting," Lu Tianyang said kindly as he pulled out a chair for Ye Ya.
Ye Ya also wore an apologetic expression. "Fu Wan Jing, I’m really sorry! Chen Chen needed to be fed before we left, so we were delayed."
"Oh, no, it's fine." Fu Wan Jing's hands trembled slightly as she held her coffee cup.
"Wan Jing, I haven't had the chance to treat you to a meal since you returned. How about dinner tonight with Xiao Ya?" He had brought Ye Ya along, clearly indicating his stance. Ye Ya thought perhaps there were still things to discuss between them and found an excuse to head to the restroom.
After Ye Ya left, Fu Wan Jing couldn't calm down. She felt a surge of emotions. "Lu Tianyang, what do you mean? Have you forgotten all the beautiful moments we shared?"
"Wan Jing, you were the one who said we should break up back then. After you left, there was no news from you at all. Now, I've married Ye Ya, so we can only be friends from now on."
When they first broke up, Lu Tianyang had been heartbroken. She had been so ruthless, leaving without a backward glance.
"Lu Tianyang, I thought you would come looking for me. I waited for you all that time while I was abroad. How could you suddenly get married? I know you married Ye Ya because of Chen Chen; you don't love her." She had her pride too; they had once loved each other so deeply.
"Wan Jing, I'm sorry. I didn't marry Ye Ya just for the child. We shouldn't meet alone anymore; Xiao Ya might misunderstand." Lu Tianyang's words were harsh, leaving no room for hope. He wouldn't even allow her to approach him for fear of causing misunderstandings with Ye Ya.
"Lu Tianyang, I know you're a responsible person, but I want to tell you this: if you find that Ye Ya isn't right for you, I'll always be here where you can see me when you turn around."
"Wan Jing, why bother? You're so exceptional; you'll definitely find a man who loves you more." Looking at her heartbroken face, Lu Tianyang felt like more than just a jerk; he was becoming a complete scoundrel.
"I'm going to the restroom." Fu Wan Jing felt as if her heart was bleeding; it hurt so much. After all those years of love and longing, how could it just end?
Ye Ya was in the restroom washing her hands, thinking they must be done talking by now.
Just as she was about to leave, Fu Wan Jing walked in, her gaze sharp as a knife slicing through Ye Ya. "Ye Ya, do you really think Lu Tianyang loves you? He married you out of responsibility; a marriage without love won't bring happiness."
Ye Ya paused for a moment. Seeing Fu Wan Jing's expression made it clear that Lu Tianyang must have told her everything; otherwise, she wouldn't be using such venomous words now.
"Whether he loves me or not is between us as husband and wife; it's none of your business. Fu Wan Jing, Lu Tianyang is my husband now and will always be my husband. Please stop lingering on someone else's husband," Ye Ya replied firmly, defending her marriage.
"I'm telling you, Ye Ya, Lu Tianyang will definitely divorce you. You have no idea how deeply we loved each other before. I will win him back," Fu Wan Jing declared defiantly. Proud as she was, how could she tolerate someone who was beneath her taking Lu Tianyang away?
"You want to be the other woman? You should first consider if you're even qualified."
Listening to her words, Fu Wan Jing sneered coldly, "I know Lu Tianyang better than you do. You are just our little mistress. A daughter born from a mistress is destined to be a mistress herself, just like your shameless mother. Even in death, she couldn't enter the Ye Family. In the end, you will still enter the Ye Family as an illegitimate child. What right do you have to be with Lu Tianyang? Just because you gave birth to a daughter? Let me tell you, even if it were a son, in the Lu Family, you would still be nothing but a lowly woman, born to seduce other men."
All the grievances Fu Wan Jing had suffered from Lu Tianyang were vented onto Ye Ya. However, while Ye Ya could endure much, she could not tolerate anyone insulting her long-departed mother. Watching Fu Wan Jing hurl insults at her mother, calling her a mistress and a lowly woman, she raised her hand and slapped her hard.
"You dare hit me?" Fu Wan Jing covered half of her fiery face, staring at Ye Ya in disbelief, her eyes blazing with fury.
"Fu Wan Jing, you can insult me all you want, but you cannot insult my mother," Ye Ya said after the slap, somewhat surprised by her own action. She was simply too furious; however, Fu Wan Jing's delicate face was now marred.
"You shameless woman, I’ll fight you!" Fu Wan Jing had never experienced such humiliation in her life, especially since this woman had taken away her most beloved man. She wished she could tear her apart.
But how could Fu Wan Jing possibly be Ye Ya's opponent? As Ye Ya looked at her like a crazed lion ready to pounce, she stepped out of the restroom. Fu Wan Jing had basically lost all rationality; any semblance of being a lady was forgotten. She had always gotten what she wanted growing up; who had ever bullied her?
Fu Wan Jing grabbed Ye Ya's hand, wanting to return the slap. But Ye Ya swiftly countered and pinned Fu Wan Jing to the ground.
"Ye Ya, let her go!" Lu Tianyang had been waiting for Ye Ya to return when he heard from the staff that there was a fight. He rushed over and saw Ye Ya holding Fu Wan Jing's hand and pressing her down.
Lu Tianyang knew well what kind of skills Ye Ya possessed; most men were no match for her. How could the usually delicate Fu Wan Jing possibly stand a chance against her?
Seeing Lu Tianyang arrive only made Fu Wan Jing feel more aggrieved. As soon as Ye Ya loosened her grip, she collapsed onto the floor.
Lu Tianyang walked over and helped her up. Noticing the bright red handprint on her face, he frowned slightly. "Ye Ya, what exactly do you want? I've already told Wan Jing that we are just friends from now on. What more do you want that requires you to resort to violence?"
"It was her who insulted me first and even cursed my mother!" Ye Ya found it hard to defend herself; indeed, she had slapped Fu Wan Jing. But Lu Tianyang didn't even bother asking for context before blaming her.
"She insults you and that gives you the right to hit someone? Is she your rival? Do you need to beat her to death for it to feel satisfying?" Lu Tianyang felt helpless; Fu Wan Jing was in poor health—what if something happened to her? Had she ever considered that? Such an impulsive and foolish woman!
"It was she who came after me; she wanted to hit me first! Lu Tianyang, do you not believe me?" If Fu Wan Jing hadn't provoked her first, she wouldn't have resorted to violence.
"I merely told her I wished you both happiness and that I would only consider Lu Tianyang as a good friend from now on. She said not even friends were acceptable and that I must never see you again; then she attacked me." After saying this, Fu Wan Jing threw herself into Lu Tianyang's arms and cried even harder, looking pitiful enough to evoke sympathy.
"You." Ye Ya finally understood; Fu Wan Jing was doing this on purpose.
"Ye Ya, apologize to Wan Jing."
"Why should I apologize?" Even if she was right, she wouldn't apologize to that small-minded person who insulted her mother. She deserved to be hit.
Fu Wan Jing cried even harder, her breathing becoming more rapid. Lu Tianyang, seeing her distress, couldn't help but feel anxious. "Wan Jing, are you okay?"
"I... I feel so unwell." Fu Wan Jing, who already had asthma, felt even worse after Ye Ya's provocation. However, seeing that Lu Tianyang was still on her side eased some of the fire in her chest.
"Where's your medicine?" Lu Tianyang reached out but found no trace of her medication.
"I think I forgot to bring it." Fu Wan Jing's face grew increasingly pale.
Lu Tianyang picked her up in a hurry. "Don't worry, I'll take you to the hospital."
As Lu Tianyang rushed to take her to the hospital, Fu Wan Jing turned her head and looked at Ye Ya, who was frozen in place. A slight smile crept onto her lips.
