Lu Tianyang felt that this was an opportunity he couldn't let slip away. Even if they hadn't come, he would have dealt with this matter himself. How could he allow anyone to bully his wife? Even if she had nearly beaten someone to a pulp, it was still their fault for laying hands on her. The thought of the bruises scattered across her body ignited a fire within him.
Jing Huaisheng yanked at Jing Hao, "You little brat, apologize quickly!"
Jing Hao glanced at Ye Ya, feeling a twinge of guilt. He had treated her poorly in the past, and yet she hadn't left him to fend for himself; instead, she had even urged him to escape first. If it had been another woman, she might have wished for his demise.
"Ye Ya, I'm sorry. I was a jerk," he said, and then slapped himself across the face. Mrs. Jing winced at the sharp sound, her heart aching for him, but there was nothing she could do; they were here to plead for help.
"Lu Tianyang, we were wrong back then. Please, you must save Jing Hao this time. Xiao Ya, all the mistakes were ours; the Jing family has wronged you. We deserve this punishment. Please help Jing Hao," Jing Huaisheng had no choice but to humble himself, while Mrs. Jing cried beside him, making Ye Ya feel increasingly uneasy.
She understood that Lu Tianyang was trying to give her a sense of relief, but seeing their desperate faces made it hard for her to think about forgiveness; after all, unimportant people didn’t deserve a place in her heart.
"Lu Tianyang, let it go. I don't want to see them," she tugged at his sleeve. Lu Tianyang wondered if this woman was too easy to bully; such a perfect opportunity for revenge was slipping away unused. But as long as she was happy, that was what mattered.
"Alright then, since my wife has spoken, you can leave now. Jing Hao, you better watch yourself from now on. If there's a next time, not even a deity can save you," Lu Tianyang glared at his disappointing cousin who had almost married his wife; he found him utterly unlikable and decided it was best for them to leave quickly.
"Thank you! You little brat, hurry up and get lost!" Jing Huaisheng felt frustrated but helpless since it was his own son.
"Take your things and get out of here; you're just an eyesore," Lu Tianyang said without any politeness. Mrs. Jing had no choice but to turn around and take the gifts away.
Once they left, Ye Ya sighed in relief and leaned against Lu Tianyang's shoulder. "I really didn't want to see them; it felt like a nightmare."
During those years, Ye Ya felt like a rat scurrying through the streets; she didn't want to recall those memories. It wasn't just the Jing family; even the Ye family had hurt her deeply.
Lu Tianyang wrapped his arm around her. "Wife, I'm sorry. If I had known sooner, I wouldn't have let you suffer so much."
She smiled faintly. "I didn't feel like I suffered back then; I had Chen Chen with me and felt content. It's just those people—I don't want to see them again. What are you planning to do about this?"
In truth, it was all that rascal Jing Hao's fault. But it seemed that the people from Longmen weren't planning to let him off easily either. Ye Ya knew Longmen was an underground gang organization; they did business and naturally couldn't afford to make enemies in the underworld.
"I'll go deal with this personally. Don't worry, my dear; I used to know Long Shaotang back when he wasn't the boss yet. Besides, how could their people be so blind as to lay hands on you?" Lu Tianyang snorted coldly; Long Shaotang clearly wasn't managing his subordinates well.
"Honey, be careful," Ye Ya said with concern. However, hearing her call him 'honey' put Lu Tianyang in a good mood; he gently pinched her cheek.
"Wife, it's been so long since I've heard you call me that! Don't use my full name anymore; it feels so distant."
"Hmph! I'm not talking to you anymore; you're getting too demanding." Ye Ya had been busy starting her company lately and had too much on her plate; this matter would have to be handled by Lu Tianyang alone. She believed he had the capability to resolve it well.
“Wife, give me a kiss before I go to work.” Lu Tianyang pulled her back, sitting her on his lap. Goodness, this was still in the living room; could he be a bit more mindful of his image? What if the maid saw them? Would she still have a job?
“Lu Tianyang, don’t do this. Someone might see us.” She tried to get up, but the man wouldn’t let her go, holding her tightly so she couldn’t escape.
“They wouldn’t dare look, my wife. We’re not at the old house anymore, and there’s no need to worry about Grandpa and the others. We’re at home; there’s nothing to fear.” After saying this, Lu Tianyang pulled Ye Ya in for a deep kiss before finally letting her go. He watched as her face turned bright red while she scolded him for being a lecher and hurried upstairs.
This was what happiness looked like.
When Lu Tianyang returned to the company, he had Zuo Kai contact Long Shaotang. That evening, in a lavish private room, Lu Tianyang arrived with Zuo Kai, finding that Long Shaotang had arrived even earlier.
On the surface, the Lu family ran a legitimate business, but their influence ran deep. Lu Old Man had a military background, and Long Shaotang didn’t want to truly offend the Lu family.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, Long Shao. Allow me to drink a cup as punishment.” Lu Tianyang waved his hand, and Zuo Kai poured him a glass of 1982 Lafite.
After drinking, Lu Tianyang poured Long Shaotang a glass. “Try this wine and tell me what you think.”
“Lu is quite generous; this is good wine.”
“Last night, your people injured my wife. Long Shao, how do you think we should handle this?” Lu Tianyang gently swirled the red wine in his glass while glancing at the two scantily clad women beside Long Shaotang. He frowned slightly. “I heard it was because my cousin took an interest in your woman—if that’s the case, I can compensate you with ten of them. But those who harmed my wife cannot be let off so easily.”
Long Shaotang gritted his teeth inwardly. Damn it! It was clearly your wife who hurt my men; why was he playing the victim?
“So how do you think we should handle this? Jing Hao dared to lay hands on my woman. If we don’t deal with this properly, do you think I can keep my position as number one?” Long Shaotang took a small sip of red wine, secretly more interested in the woman who had beaten up his four subordinates.
“I can compensate you with women; as for your four subordinates, I think I need to send someone to teach them some manners.”
Hearing Lu Tianyang’s words made Long Shaotang laugh. “Lu, do you really think I’m that desperate for women?”
Lu Tianyang looked at the two women beside him and sneered. Long Shaotang’s expression darkened. “You two get out!” The two women who had been draped over him didn’t dare defy Long Shaotang’s command and quickly left.
“What could you possibly offer me that would compare to having a strong woman like your wife?”
“My wife is not someone you can just think about, Long Shaotang. I advise you to choose your words carefully.” A cold glint flashed across Lu Tianyang’s face, sharp as a knife slicing through the air.
"Alright, since that's the case, it's just a woman after all. Your wife also hurt my people, so let's consider this matter settled, Lu. Can we be friends? There will still be opportunities for cooperation in the future." Long Shaotang raised his glass and gently clinked it against Lu Tianyang's, signaling that they could move past this incident.
"Make sure your people keep their eyes open in the future; otherwise, what good are they?" Lu Tianyang took a sip from his glass.
"Good, let's bring your wife out to see the world sometime," Long Shaotang said, increasingly intrigued by that woman.
"My wife is shy; she prefers staying at home with the kids, so it might not be convenient," Lu Tianyang replied without hesitation. Why should he show his wife to him?
"Alright then," Long Shaotang said, a hint of regret crossing his face.
After Lu Tianyang left, Long Shaotang reclined on the sofa. One of his subordinates couldn't help but ask, "Boss, are we just letting him go like that?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Long Shaotang kicked him. "Do you think we can mess with someone from the Lu Family? Do you think Lu Tianyang built the Lu Family into what it is today by being soft? From now on, tell the brothers to avoid provoking anyone from the Lu Family. Now get out of here."
Yet, letting Jing Hao go left Long Shaotang feeling unsatisfied.
In the afternoon, Ye Ya received the design plans sent by the renovation company. She was surprised at their efficiency; it seemed her money was well spent.
She called Tao Momo to come and take a look as well. Tao Momo was an expert in design and pointed out several areas that needed modification. Overall, they were almost done; the remaining work would be followed up by Ye Ya.
After discussing the details with the renovation company, they were ready to start work. Ye Ya rubbed her temples; before she knew it, Chen Chen was already over four months old. In another month or so, after weaning, she wouldn't have to worry as much.
Watching her little one grow day by day filled Ye Ya with a sense of accomplishment.
Lu Tianyang returned home, and Ye Ya casually took his briefcase. She caught a whiff of alcohol on him. "Have you been drinking? Go wash up first; don’t stink up our daughter."
Lu Tianyang wrapped his arms around her waist. "Wife, did you have a good day at home? Did you miss me?"
"Who missed you? Don’t get so close; you smell terrible. Go take a shower." That scoundrel even wanted to kiss her—how outrageous! Ye Ya pushed him into the bathroom.
After all these years of marriage, he still asked such cheesy questions. Just because he had thick skin didn’t mean everyone else did. Ye Ya scoffed inwardly.
After he finished showering, it was already past eight o'clock. Ye Ya instructed Guo Ma to arrange for the servants to serve dinner. Lu Tianyang frowned slightly and said, "Wife, from now on if it's this late, don't wait for me to eat; go ahead and eat without me."
“Who are you waiting for, being so sentimental? I’ve already eaten a bit earlier, so you don’t need me to keep you company. I’ll head back,” Ye Ya said, pretending to get up, only to be pulled back by him.
“It’s my fault for being sentimental, dear. Then just stay and eat a little more with me,” Lu Tianyang said, seeing the expression on her face. He knew she must have been waiting for him; she was tough on the outside but soft on the inside. Alright, he would indulge her this once.
“Have all the matters been taken care of? Is it troublesome?” Ye Ya asked with some concern, worried that Lu Tianyang might suffer a loss.
“It’s all settled. From now on, they won’t dare to act recklessly when they see anyone from the Lu Family. Don’t worry; Long Shaotang isn’t stupid. If he wants to keep his position, he wouldn’t really go against me. Now, let’s not talk about that and just eat,” Lu Tianyang said as he served her some food.
“Alright, stop serving me. You should eat more,” Ye Ya replied, nodding. As long as she didn’t suffer any loss, that was fine.
“Dear, you need to eat more; otherwise, you’ll be tired in no time. Your stamina isn’t up to par,” he teased.
Just as he finished speaking, Ye Ya couldn’t help but kick him lightly. Was there really such a person?
Lu Tianyang looked up at her with a puzzled expression. “Dear, did I say something wrong? Why did you kick me? You need to put in more effort; if we’re going to have a second child, you need to take care of your health.”
“Lu Tianyang, enough already! Let me feed you,” Ye Ya said as she picked up a piece of chicken leg and stuffed it into his mouth. Did he really think she was a pig? Besides, could such conversations be brought to the dining table? If others heard it, they would surely laugh at her!
