Lu Tianyang simply pulled her into the passenger seat, locked the car door, and made his way to the driver's seat. Ye Ya glanced over and asked, "Are you not keeping your car?"
"Who cares about the car? I just want to get my wife back, so don't worry," Lu Tianyang replied nonchalantly, unconcerned about the vehicle. He could easily have someone drive it back.
Seeing his nonchalance, Ye Ya felt disinclined to engage him further. After all, it was his car; it had nothing to do with her.
Once they returned home, Ye Ya noticed the tall candle holder on the table. She had originally planned a candlelit dinner for that evening, but now she felt no appetite for anything. She walked into the nursery, where Guo Ma emerged from inside. "Lady, Young Miss just fell asleep. You came back just in time; she was calling out for someone earlier, probably missing her mother."
Hearing this made Ye Ya's heart ache, and she hurried inside to check on her child, feeling a deep pang of sorrow.
"Lady, when the young master came back and saw you weren't home yet, he was almost frantic. Sometimes we can't give those with ulterior motives a chance; it might play right into their hands," Guo Ma said while discreetly observing Ye Ya's expression. Seeing no reaction from her, she quietly exited the room.
"Young Master, you should comfort the Lady well; I see she's quite soft-hearted," Guo Ma thought to herself, feeling frustrated. Fu Wan Jing was a thing of the past; despite knowing that the young master was married, she still clung on. Guo Ma had no good impression of her.
"Yes, I understand. She has every right to be angry," Lu Tianyang reflected on his own shortcomings.
At that moment, Ye Ya's phone rang. Not wanting to disturb Chen Chen, she stepped outside with her phone in hand and looked at the caller ID. "Hello, Xiao Lin."
Lu Tianyang stood outside and immediately went on high alert upon hearing Ye Ya call out Xiao Lin's name but said nothing as he remained behind her.
"Xiao Ya, are you free this Friday night? I want to gather with some old classmates; let's invite Lu Tianyang along too."
"Sure, see you Friday," Ye Ya replied before hanging up. As she turned around, she bumped right into Lu Tianyang. Her brows furrowed in annoyance. "Lu Tianyang, what's wrong with you? Why are you standing behind me?"
"Wife, Xiao Lin wants to meet up with you," Lu Tianyang said through gritted teeth, struggling to contain his anger; he found Xiao Lin utterly despicable.
"Sure! Do you have a problem with that? You can hug and cuddle with Fu Wan Jing while I can't even meet Xiao Lin?" Ye Ya pushed him away and tried to lock the door behind her. Lu Tianyang's hand blocked her path; when she pushed against him with all her strength, he still wouldn't relent.
Ye Ya let go of her grip. After a long afternoon of turmoil and having eaten little that evening, she felt too exhausted to continue this struggle with him.
"Wife, I'm sorry! I shouldn't have agreed to dance with Fu Wan Jing; it was a mistake! I didn't mean for you to see anything!" Lu Tianyang lamented internally as he faced an agonizing day filled with regret.
"You don't need to explain anything to me. There's no need for us to be involved with each other anymore," Ye Ya said as she took out some clothes from the wardrobe. She was going to sleep with Chen Chen tonight and didn't want to see him again.
"What do you mean by not being involved, my wife? I won't allow it," Lu Tianyang said angrily, snatching her clothes back and stuffing them into the wardrobe. He hated this kind of cold violence.
Ye Ya was also furious. Watching him take her clothes away, she had endured for so long and had finally had enough. She started punching and kicking Lu Tianyang.
He stood there, letting her hit him. After a while, as he watched Ye Ya panting from exertion, a smirk crept onto his lips. "Wife, are you tired? You haven't eaten dinner yet, and you still have the energy to be angry."
Seeing him still able to smile made Ye Ya bite down on his shoulder. Lu Tianyang raised an eyebrow. "Wife, every time you get angry, you bite me. Sigh, at this rate, there won't be much good meat left on your husband."
"I'm going to bite you! Let's see if you dare to flirt with others again," Ye Ya kicked him once more. Lu Tianyang pulled her into his embrace. "Alright, wife, after all that biting and kicking, do you feel better now?"
"I hate you so much, Lu Tianyang, you big jerk! I was planning to pick you up from work and prepare dinner for you, and yet you were hugging Fu Wan Jing!" The more she spoke, the more she felt like a fool; this man was heartless.
"Wife, I'm sorry," Lu Tianyang said as he stroked her head, noticing her eyes were red. "Please don't cry."
"You don't need to worry about me," Ye Ya pushed his hand away and tried to leave, but Lu Tianyang held her tightly.
"Of course I have to worry! I really should be punished for making you cry." His words only made her cry harder.
"Let go of me! I want to take a shower; I'm covered in sand!" Ye Ya swatted his hands away. Her anger slowly dissipated; Guo Ma was right—she couldn't let those with ulterior motives succeed.
"Okay, wife, go wash up. I'll have the servants prepare something to eat for you; you must not have eaten anything all evening." Lu Tianyang sighed in relief as he watched her walk into the bathroom. He instructed Guo Ma to hurry up with the food while he went into another bathroom to wash himself.
Men didn't wash as meticulously as women did. By the time Lu Tianyang finished his shower and came out, Ye Ya was still inside.
"Wife, are you done?" he couldn't help but knock on the door. "What are you rushing me for?" came Ye Ya's voice from inside as she got dressed.
After a while, Ye Ya finally came out dressed. Without wasting any time, Lu Tianyang picked her up and carried her downstairs. "Hey! Put me down! People will laugh at us!"
Lu Tianyang grinned as he set her down. "Wife, I'm afraid you'll run away again if I put you down too soon. Come eat something first; after being out in the cold wind all night, my heart feels just as chilly."
“Don’t think this means I’ve forgiven you, you jerk,” Ye Ya said, pinching him lightly as they walked over to the dining table. Guo Ma had already instructed someone to prepare some dishes anew.
Ye Ya glanced around; she had originally planned to celebrate tonight, but things had turned out this way. She looked at Guo Ma and asked, “Is the cake still here?”
“Yes, Lady, I’ll bring it right over,” Guo Ma replied with a smile. It seemed they had made up now, so she hurried to fetch the cake from the fridge.
Lu Tianyang held Ye Ya’s hand tightly, a broad smile on his face. “Wife, you’re the best.”
Ye Ya pulled her hand back. “I’m just trying not to waste anything. Don’t think it’s for you.”
Guo Ma opened the cake box. “Young Master, Lady, take your time eating. If you need anything else, just let me know.” With that, Guo Ma discreetly stepped away.
Lu Tianyang opened the cake box to find a message written on top: “Happy Birthday to my husband, may all your wishes come true.”
Looking at those words, Lu Tianyang felt that he didn’t even need to eat the cake; it was already sweet enough.
Ye Ya poured two glasses of red wine and handed one to him. “Happy Birthday, jerk.”
