On the second morning, Ye Ya rubbed her sore waist, feeling quite irritated. Unable to contain herself, she kicked out at Lu Tianyang. He simply clamped down on her foot, rendering her immobile. "Wife, are you trying to murder your husband this early in the morning?"
"Lu Tianyang, you can't keep asking for it all night long. It's exhausting, do you know that?" Ye Ya glared at the man who was grinning like a fox. Though her foot was trapped, her hands were free, and she pinched him hard.
He pulled her into his embrace, looking at her angrily while gently patting her back to soothe her. "Wife, I understand. I don’t want to either; I just can’t help it when I see you."
Look at him, acting all innocent. Ye Ya gritted her teeth. "Lu Tianyang, I don't believe you anymore; you always say that."
"Come on, silly. Stop messing around. A man in the morning is fierce; if you keep squirming like that, things might heat up again, and then don’t come crying to me." Lu Tianyang sighed helplessly.
"Let me go; I need to get up. There’s so much to do today. Zuo Kai hasn’t called you yet; don’t forget," Ye Ya reminded him while escaping from his grasp. "Oh right, about the classmate's wedding tonight—you said you'd accompany me."
"I know; I’ll definitely set everything aside to be with you. I wouldn’t feel right not going; Xiao Lin has his eyes on you, and I can see it." Lu Tianyang got out of bed as well; indeed, there was much to handle today.
After breakfast, the couple went their separate ways for work. Lu Tianyang had initially wanted to drive her but with so many tasks ahead of him, he decided against it, hoping he could still accompany her in the evening.
Tao Momo arrived at the company as well. The Moya Fashion brand was gradually gaining recognition, and their clothing store was expanding significantly. Ye Ya felt that once the company grew even stronger and orders became more stable, they could fully develop their own brand.
Since returning from the Qi Family, Tao Momo seemed even more determined. Seeing her demeanor, Ye Ya couldn’t help but ask, "Mo Mo, do you have something on your mind? Feel free to share."
Tao Momo sighed, feeling a kinship with Ye Ya’s struggles. "Xiao Ya, do you think people from wealthy families look down on others? Qi Mu thinks I’m not worthy of her son."
Ye Ya felt that Tao Momo was luckier than herself since her initial relationship with Lu Tianyang hadn’t been based solely on love. "That’s quite normal; living in high society may seem glamorous on the surface, but underneath it’s all about competition. However, Mo Mo, true love doesn’t change because of money. What matters is whether the person you’re with is sincere. We’re building our careers through our own efforts; one day those so-called wealthy families will regret underestimating us."
"You’re right; we need to empower ourselves. It’s just about having more money—I can earn that too!" Tao Momo slammed her hand on the table with a fiery spirit characteristic of a great designer. "Xiao Ya, I suddenly have a surge of inspiration; I’ll leave these matters to you."
"Sure thing!" Watching Tao Momo's energetic demeanor made Ye Ya smile uncontrollably. Indeed, she loved Lu Tianyang deeply but couldn’t neglect her own career either. She didn’t aspire to reach the pinnacle of success but wanted a career that allowed her to stand tall and avoid falling into despair alongside her daughter.
So, sometimes Lu Tianyang would say not to let her work too hard. He didn't understand her struggles, and she couldn't express them; it was all preparation for a future that might lead to separation.
At that moment, the phone on the desk rang. "Ye Zong, there's a beautiful woman outside who says she was sent by Mr. Lu and needs to see you."
Ye Ya recalled what Lu Tianyang had said about needing to assign her a capable assistant. "Alright, let her in."
After a while, a woman dressed in a professional suit with black-framed glasses walked in. "Hello, Madam, I'm Amy, sent by Lu to assist you with your work."
Amy had been with the Lu Family for over five years and was one of Lu Tianyang's special assistants. She was meticulous and careful. Lu Tianyang had brought her over to ease his wife's burdens.
As Amy surveyed Ye Ya's office, she couldn't help but frown slightly. This place was incomparable to the Lu Family's. Even if you had always worked on a grand ship, being suddenly transferred to a dilapidated wooden boat would make you doubt whether there was any space for you to thrive.
However, thinking of Ye Ya—who was the wife of the President of Lu's—working hard herself made Amy reconsider. This new brand had gained a good reputation, which made her look at Ye Ya with newfound respect. Moreover, the president had repeatedly instructed her to follow the lady's arrangements and share in her workload; her benefits wouldn't be worse than at the Lu Family and might even be better.
"Since Mr. Lu sent you over, I trust he has chosen someone capable. Please take this document and prepare a feasible project evaluation report for me. I'll have my secretary arrange a workspace for you," Ye Ya said, noticing that Amy seemed somewhat doubtful of her. Such a person likely had ambitions; she needed to be tamed and given time.
"Understood, Madam. I will have it on your desk by tomorrow," Amy replied as she took the document and nodded before following Ye Ya's secretary out.
As soon as they left, Lu Tianyang called. "Honey, has Amy reported in? If you need anything, just ask her; she's quite capable. Don't wear yourself out. I'm having dinner with clients, so I won't talk long."
"Got it, don't drink too much," Ye Ya thought about this guy who was dining with clients yet still found time to call her. She couldn't help but feel amused; she wasn't a child who needed constant reassurance.
Around four in the afternoon, Xiao Lin called to say that they had reserved a place and many classmates from high school would be attending. She and Tao Momo would naturally be there too. Qi Fan had returned to the Lu Family, which left Tao Momo feeling anxious.
Ye Ya drove with Tao Momo to the Marriott Hotel, a five-star establishment that combined dining, entertainment, and leisure all in one.
At the entrance of the hotel, Ye Ya wondered why Lu Tianyang had not yet arrived. Unable to resist, she called him, but it was Zuo Kai who answered. "Zuo Kai, where is Lu Tianyang? Why hasn't he come yet?"
"Madam, there was an incident with a guest from America. The president is at the hospital and probably won't be able to accompany you. His phone was left in the car, and I'm on my way to find him," Zuo Kai reported the situation to Ye Ya.
"Alright, tell him not to worry. I can go home by myself," Ye Ya said as she hung up, thinking about whether Lu Tianyang was alright. She felt helpless, unsure of how to assist him.
Tao Momo glanced over and asked, "Xiao Ya, is something wrong with Lu Tianyang?"
"Nothing serious. It's just that his client had an issue, and he's at the hospital. I don't think he'll be coming anymore. Let's just go in ourselves," Ye Ya replied. Qi Fan hadn’t come either, leaving both Ye Ya and Tao Momo feeling a bit disappointed. However, they were still happy to see their long-lost classmates.
Xiao Lin arrived before them and walked over as soon as she spotted them. "Xiao Ya, Mo Mo, this way! You're the last two to arrive."
Xiao Lin had always been like a star in high school—not only did she excel academically, but she also seemed like a natural athlete. Later on, they heard she joined the military, which left everyone feeling a bit regretful.
Once inside the private room, everyone began ordering food. Ye Ya thought that unlike her fame in Ning Cheng—especially after her relationship with Jing Hao became widely known—she had since married Jing Hao's cousin.
With Xiao Lin present, no one dared to bring up such topics. Moreover, Lu Tianyang’s status as president meant that his willingness to marry Ye Ya was remarkable in itself; thus, it would be inappropriate to revisit old matters.
As everyone enjoyed some drinks, excitement filled the air. After eating and drinking well, someone suggested going to karaoke. Ye Ya glanced at the time; she preferred to head home to see her daughter and wondered how Lu Tianyang's situation was unfolding.
However, everyone was in high spirits, and Ye Ya didn’t want to dampen their enthusiasm. Even Tao Momo looked thrilled. After a few drinks, they entered the KTV and started playing Truth or Dare, which only heightened their excitement.
The bottle spun and landed on Xiao Lin. The group cheered, "Come on! Let's ask Xiao Lin if you had a crush on Ye Ya back in high school!"
Ye Ya's face flushed red as she thought about why they would ask such a question.
"Hurry up! This is Truth or Dare; you can't lie! Xiao Lin, just tell us!"
Tao Momo took a small sip of beer, clearly unimpressed by the question posed.
Xiao Lin, a man raised in the military camp, couldn't grasp the art of saying one thing and doing another. He took a gulp of his drink and said, "Yes, I liked her back in high school. Next!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the crowd erupted into even louder cheers. However, the bottle quickly passed to someone else, and the questions became increasingly awkward. Ye Ya found it hard to describe them; for instance, someone asked if she was still a virgin. All sorts of questions flew around, but they were all adults now, and it was rare for them to gather like this, so they were having a wild time.
Though Tao Momo was sipping her beer, she kept glancing at her phone. Upon seeing Qi Fan's message, she quietly pulled Ye Ya aside. "Xiao Ya, tell everyone I'm leaving soon. That jerk Qi Fan is looking for me."
"Alright, go ahead. You should keep your appointment," Ye Ya understood her feelings and thought that she would also leave soon.
As Tao Momo left, she didn't close the door properly. Long Shaotang happened to pass by and caught a glimpse of Ye Ya through the half-open door. His brow furrowed slightly; how could Ye Ya end up in a place like this? Moreover, there were other men sitting beside her besides Lu Tianyang. This entertainment venue was his territory.
"Long Shao, what are you looking at? Miss Xiao is already waiting for you in the room."
"Tell her to get lost; I'm not in the mood tonight. By the way, have your manager come find me," Long Shaotang said while looking at Ye Ya. She had been drinking, and her face was flushed—a truly adorable woman. No matter how many women he had been with before, he still couldn't forget Ye Ya; he wanted to have her for himself.
Tonight might be his chance. If an opportunity presented itself and he didn't seize it, then he would truly be letting fate down.
