Lu Tianyang reluctantly walked into the guest room. Ye Ya stood at the door, glancing at him, contemplating whether she should explain herself. However, seeing his current demeanor, it seemed he didn’t want to hear her speak, so she had no choice but to return to her room.
Indeed, Lu Tianyang was furious. He was so angry that she simply left like that that he locked the door behind her.
Yet, lying in bed, he tossed and turned, unable to sleep. He stepped out onto the balcony for a smoke, feeling restless. Compared to the stress of losing a business deal worth millions, he had never felt as troubled as he did at this moment; Ye Ya was his nemesis.
Ye Ya hadn’t gone to bed yet. She vaguely noticed a spark on the other balcony and walked over, finding him there smoking alone. “Why are you still smoking?” she asked.
Lu Tianyang let out a deep sigh and deliberately blew the smoke towards her. “It’s none of your business. I know you don’t care. Even if I get lung cancer, you don’t need to worry about it.”
Ye Ya rolled her eyes at his words, feeling them sour enough to make her teeth ache. “Go ahead and smoke then. Getting lung cancer is obviously not my concern anymore; we’re divorced.” With that, Ye Ya turned away from him, even closing the curtains of the floor-to-ceiling window.
Lu Tianyang continued smoking, letting the cool breeze blow through for most of the night.
The next morning, Ye Ya found Lu Tianyang already in the living room having breakfast. This time he didn’t wait for her. She walked over and sat down, wanting to say something but finding herself unable to speak when she saw his expression.
“Do you want me to take you to work today?” Lu Tianyang asked after finishing his meal and casually wiping his mouth with a napkin.
Ye Ya noticed a slight nasal tone in his voice. “Are you coming down with a cold?”
“No. If you don’t need me to drive you, I’ll leave first.” Lu Tianyang had shown some signs of a cold that morning; he had hoped that if he were sick, she would show concern for him. But now that he was actually unwell, he feared passing it on to her.
“Then go ahead and get to work. Drive safely,” Ye Ya replied, biting into her bread. They weren’t on the same route anyway; if he was really in a hurry, there was no need for him to wait for her.
In the afternoon, after finishing her tasks, Ye Ya left work early. The weather had turned cooler; Chen Chen had already changed into long sleeves.
Ye Ya glanced at the time repeatedly; it was already past seven. Did he plan not to come back tonight?
“Lady, the young master might be busy; perhaps we should eat first,” Guo Ma suggested quietly. Ye Ya felt a bit embarrassed; did she ever say she was waiting for him?
“Alright,” Ye Ya nodded. Now that they were divorced, even if he didn’t come back for dinner, she had no right to question it anymore.
After dinner, it was eight o'clock, and Lu Tianyang still hadn't returned. Ye Ya went to give Chen Chen a bath and stayed in the room playing with her until after nine. Once her daughter fell asleep, she stepped out of Chen Chen's room and glanced around—Lu Tianyang was still not back.
She thought to herself that he must be angry and decided not to come home. Fine, let him be angry; what had she done wrong anyway?
By ten o'clock, after finishing her own shower, Ye Ya heard the sound of the door opening and couldn't help but step outside. Lu Tianyang looked at her and said, "It's late. You should go to bed early and make sure to cover yourself well with the blanket."
Ye Ya noticed his voice sounded different and asked, "Lu Tianyang, do you have a cold? Your voice has changed."
"Nothing serious. I'm a grown man; you don't need to worry. Just go to sleep so you don't catch anything from me," Lu Tianyang waved his hand dismissively. It was just a minor cold, and he didn't plan on taking any medicine since he usually had a strong constitution.
Ye Ya walked over and touched his forehead; it was hot. She immediately got angry. "What do you mean 'nothing serious'? You're burning up! Have you taken any medicine?"
Lu Tianyang honestly shook his head. "I had a lot going on today. It's nothing to worry about; just go to sleep."
"Lu Tianyang, don't tell me you didn't even eat dinner," Ye Ya frowned, displeased by the nasal tone in his voice.
"I wasn't hungry. A good sleep will fix it. Be good and go to bed; don’t stand so close," Lu Tianyang pushed her away gently, not wanting to pass on his cold. He feared that if both of them fell ill, they wouldn't be able to take care of Chen Chen.
"You jerk! Just go lie down already and wait for me!" Ye Ya growled as she glared at him before heading downstairs. Lu Tianyang was left puzzled about what she intended to do, chuckling bitterly at the thought that perhaps this woman only cared about him when he was sick.
At that moment, the housekeeper was preparing to rest. Guo Ma saw Ye Ya in the kitchen and asked, "Lady, do you need any help?"
"No need, Guo Ma. You can go rest," Ye Ya waved her hand dismissively. That jerk hadn't eaten anything; taking medicine on an empty stomach was bad for him, so she simply decided to cook him some noodles.
Ten minutes later, Ye Ya brought a bowl of noodles inside. "Eat some noodles first; I didn't put any meat in it because I heard eating meat while having a cold slows down recovery."
Lu Tianyang was taken aback—was she really cooking noodles for him?
"What are you staring at? Hurry up and eat; I'll get your medicine," Ye Ya shot him an annoyed glare before storming out. After a moment, she returned with a cup of water and some pills.
Seeing that Lu Tianyang had not touched his chopsticks, she became even angrier. "Why aren't you eating, Lu Tianyang? Are you throwing a tantrum like a child? You're too grown up for this."
"Wife, you cooked this with your own hands; I can't bear to eat it," he replied, not even remembering the last time he had tasted her cooking. It felt like ages ago.
"Have you lost your mind from the fever? I'll cook for you again tomorrow if you want. But right now, you need to eat a little to settle your stomach. Your fever is quite serious; you can't skip your medicine," Ye Ya said as she sat down beside him, unable to be stern with him any longer.
"Then it's settled; you said you'd cook for me tomorrow." With her assurance, Lu Tianyang immediately picked up his chopsticks. The noodles were simple—just a fried egg and a few greens—but he finished the soup completely.
Ye Ya took his temperature and found it was 38.5 degrees Celsius. This man really didn't take care of himself at all.
"Lu Tianyang, look at yourself; your fever is so high! Lie down for a bit and digest before taking your medicine. How did you catch a cold in the first place?" Ye Ya lightly tapped his forehead. Remembering how he had cared for her when she hurt her foot, she felt it was even.
"You ignored me last night, so I smoked on the balcony all night, wife. I'll take my medicine myself; you should go out and not catch anything from me," Lu Tianyang said, still reluctant to let her go, thinking it would be better if he suffered alone.
"You think I'm as fragile as you? A little wind could knock me over! Just take this fever reducer first," Ye Ya replied as she brought a glass of water to him. Lu Tianyang took it from her and obediently swallowed the medicine.
"Wife," Lu Tianyang wanted to hug her but was afraid of making her angry or passing on his illness.
Ye Ya sighed. "Lu Tianyang, I didn't agree to that."
"Hmm?" Lu Tianyang raised an eyebrow. "Agree to what?"
"Xiao Lin asked me to be his girlfriend, but I turned him down," Ye Ya said, thinking about how that jerk had smoked for half the night just because of Xiao Lin's nonsense. She decided to be straightforward with him.
"Really? You turned him down, wife? Good girl!" Regardless of his fever, Lu Tianyang hugged her tightly. "Last night when you pulled the curtains shut, I couldn't see anything; I felt so sad."
"Stop being childish. Just lie down and rest well. Not agreeing to him doesn't mean I've agreed to you; don't get ahead of yourself," Ye Ya said as she felt his warmth against her. She hoped the medicine would work; if not, they would have to call a doctor.
"Can you stay with me tonight? My head hurts. You can check for yourself," Lu Tianyang thought that this illness was worth it. It didn't matter that she didn't agree; the most important thing was that she had rejected Xiao Lin, which was better news than any medicine.
"Aren't you afraid of infecting me? Yet you want me to stay," Ye Ya chuckled, thinking he was silly, like an ordinary big boy.
Lu Tianyang furrowed his brows and reluctantly let go of her hand. "Then you should go back to your room and sleep. I can't let you take any risks."
"Alright, just lie over a bit. I'll watch over you, and when you fall asleep, I'll go back," she said, feeling a pang of reluctance at his demeanor.
Hearing her words, Lu Tianyang immediately cleared a large space for her. "Wife, I can just hold your hand while I sleep. I won't hug you; that should prevent any infection."
"Okay." Ye Ya lay down beside him and touched his forehead. "Go to sleep quickly. I'll keep an eye on you. If your fever doesn't go down, I'll have to call the doctor."
Lu Tianyang's lips curled into a smile, his expression mischievous as he tightly held her small hand. Perhaps the medicine was taking effect; before long, he fell asleep.
Ye Ya felt anxious; she couldn't sleep and instead watched as Lu Tianyang broke into a sweat, his forehead glistening with perspiration.
She released his hand and got up to wring out a towel to wipe his sweat. By midnight, his fever had subsided somewhat; he wasn't as hot anymore, but his clothes were nearly soaked through.
It wouldn't do to leave his wet clothes on. She pulled back the blanket and gently patted his face. "Lu Tianyang, change your clothes before sleeping; you're all wet."
Lu Tianyang opened his eyes and saw her looking anxious. He grasped her hand tightly. "Wife, I'm feeling much better; you're my miracle cure."
"Stop joking around; get up and change your clothes first." Ye Ya pulled her hand away, not wanting to let him off easily.
"Wife, I have no strength left in my body; I don't want to get up. My head is still spinning," Lu Tianyang whined playfully, though it was also true; it was rare for her to be so obedient.
"But you can't stay in wet clothes; you need to change. Be good and just take them off," Ye Ya said as she looked at him in his weak state. Believing him, she took the initiative to unbutton his shirt, which cooperatively slipped off with ease.
She touched him and realized that his pants needed to be changed as well. At first, when she started to take off his pajamas, it wasn't a big deal, but when he was left in just his underwear, Ye Ya gasped, "You change yourself; I'll get you some clothes."
She casually grabbed a robe from the wardrobe, but Lu Tianyang lay there motionless. "Wife, my arms and legs feel so weak; I don't have the strength to take them off. Can you help me?" After saying this, he weakly coughed a few times, a hint of mischievousness flashing in his eyes.
"Lu Tianyang, you jerk," she scolded him while still pulling down his pants.
Lu Tianyang looked a bit innocent. "Wife, my head still hurts. You can check for yourself."
He still had a slight fever, and Ye Ya thought it was best not to prolong this any further. "Stop messing around; hurry up and put on your clothes. Take another pill, and you should be fine by tomorrow."
"I'm uncomfortable, wife. My head hurts, and this area hurts too," Lu Tianyang suddenly grabbed Ye Ya's hand and pressed it against his lower abdomen.
