"I need a wife," Jin Chengyan repeated, his tone so certain that it felt as if Qiao Nuo had no choice but to agree.
Qiao Nuo looked at the man before her, someone she had only heard of from afar but never seen up close. Rumor had it that he was brave and decisive; in just three short years since taking over Dingsheng Hotel, he had doubled its performance, turning Juefeng Hotel into one of the top hotels not only in the country but also in Asia.
But that was just the tip of the iceberg. The hotel industry was merely a small project in his portfolio. The Jin family was involved in a wide array of industries, and it was said that he directly or indirectly held stakes in as many as two hundred companies, nearly controlling the economic lifeline of Qin Cheng!
If there were anyone who could rival him, it would only be his father, a man who had once wielded power with ease many years ago.
Yet here he was, telling Qiao Nuo that he needed a wife. Was this really not some sort of prank from Jin Chengyan?
"Mr. Jin, with your qualifications, finding a wife should be an easy task for you. There's no need to choose someone whose family has just gone bankrupt and is mismatched with the Jin family," she replied. She understood that the concept of social standing still held strong in their circles.
Sometimes, finding a suitable match could indeed bolster one's family; although the Jin family was powerful enough not to require such alliances now, Jin Chengyan had no reason to choose someone like her—someone without love or background.
Jin Chengyan did not deny Qiao Nuo's point about social standing but responded, "Let’s put it another way: you need money right now, and I can provide it. This is a transaction—nothing to do with love; it's simply meeting each other's needs."
Look how casually he spoke of marriage as if it were a game! What a notion of mutual benefit! Qiao Nuo could not agree with his perspective.
"Sorry, Mr. Jin. While I do need money at the moment, I have no intention of selling myself; otherwise, I would truly be like what those reporters said earlier. Although the Qiao family is struggling, we are not at that level," Qiao Nuo firmly rejected Jin Chengyan's proposal. "Lastly, thank you for helping me out today. If there's ever an opportunity in the future, I will certainly express my gratitude."
Jin Chengyan did not press her further; he merely shrugged. "Alright then, I'll be waiting for you at Jin Mansion in three days."
Qiao Nuo widened her eyes. Was Jin Chengyan talking to himself?
Ignoring her, Qiao Nuo hurriedly left the dreadful hotel, vowing never to set foot in this humiliating place again.
She headed straight to the hospital. Her father not only suffered a stroke, but after being hospitalized, they discovered he had a tumor in his brain that required urgent surgery.
It was a tumor, and it was in his brain. The risks of surgery were high, and the costs were steep. The hospital urged her to gather the money quickly so that he could undergo the operation and recover soon.
However, when she arrived at the hospital today, she didn’t find her father in the intensive care unit. The nurse informed her that his condition had worsened and he had been moved to the ICU!
Panic set in for Qiao Nuo as she rushed to the ICU. Visiting hours had already passed, and she could only stand outside, looking at her father lying on the hospital bed from a distance, her heart aching with worry.
When the Critical Illness Notification was handed to her, she felt completely dazed. She could only sit in a chair to prevent herself from collapsing onto the floor. The doctor also told her to pay the fees as soon as possible—not just for the surgery but also for the hospitalization; otherwise, they would really have to turn him away!
In one hand was the Critical Illness Notification, and in the other was the bill.
Qiao Nuo buried her head in her legs, and after holding back tears all day, they finally fell.
She wasn’t strong enough to withstand everything unscathed. Just half a month ago, she was a carefree High Society Heiress with a father who loved her wholeheartedly, a fiancé about to step into marriage with her, and a good best friend.
All of this forced her to grow up and accept reality.
But where could she possibly find such a large sum of money for her father's surgery?
Qiao Nuo unconsciously thought of Jin Chengyan's face. Although she didn't know why he needed a wife, she couldn't deny that he was wealthy and powerful. If she agreed to his terms, her father's treatment would surely be taken care of.
But that was her marriage!
