"What are you doing at the hospital? Didn't I tell you to go home after school? I can take care of Dad," Qiao Nuo said, only then noticing the bruises at the corner of Qiao Chen's mouth. "What happened to your face? Did you get into a fight?"
Qiao Nuo sprang up from her chair. She knew her brother was the family's treasure; unlike her, he hadn't experienced the transition from a comfortable life to wealth.
Qiao Chen was a typical young master, full of all the spoiled attitudes that came with it. From his school days until now, he had caused countless troubles. Whenever he got into trouble, he never dared to let their father handle it; instead, he would turn to Qiao Nuo for help at school.
In the past, Qiao Nuo would patiently speak with teachers on his behalf, but now, overwhelmed by her own issues, she simply didn't have the energy to deal with Qiao Chen's myriad of problems at school.

She spoke earnestly, not expecting Qiao Chen to absorb everything she said, but he wasn’t a clueless child; he should know what to do.
However, Qiao Chen replied, “You can’t even afford Dad’s surgery fees right now. What money do you have left for my education? Those people mock me, calling me a poor kid. I couldn’t take it anymore and ended up fighting them! But they? They just want me to apologize because they think they’re rich and powerful!”
Qiao Nuo understood the reason behind Qiao Chen’s reluctance to go back to school.
She softened her tone and held his hand. “Xiao Chen, please listen to your sister. Go back to school. Once you have a diploma, one day you will definitely be able to restore our family to its former glory, but that won’t happen now.”
Qiao Chen looked at Qiao Nuo, and his stubbornness finally began to wane. He knew that their family was bankrupt; he was no longer the young master. His sister bore the weight of their situation, and he couldn’t add more trouble for her.
“Okay…” He lowered his head in agreement. “But the teacher wants you to come by tomorrow…”
Upon hearing this, Qiao Nuo couldn’t help but laugh. This scene reminded her of when Qiao Chen had gotten into trouble in the past and had secretly come to her university for help without telling their father.
Seeing his sister smile made Qiao Chen laugh as well.
This was the first smile they had shared since their family’s downfall, but only they knew the bittersweet feelings hidden behind that smile.
