"I'm sorry, Miss Qiao. Your father's attending physician has gone to the United States for research, and we don't know when he will return."
"Qiao Nuo, you can set aside your work for this month; there's no need for you to do it."
"Miss Qiao, Qiao Chen cannot attend class right now."
...
These were all the responses Qiao Nuo had received over the past few days, each one a rejection. She felt isolated and helpless.
However, the circumstances this time were clearly different.
Someone was clearly obstructing her.
Jin Chengyan.
It had been five or six days since Qiao Nuo last saw Jin Chengyan after he stormed out.
Yet, his news was everywhere.
Jin Shao was frequenting entertainment venues, partying all night long.
Jin Shao was seen with internet celebrities at upscale restaurants, spending lavishly just to make them smile.
Jin Shao invested in a movie, but the leading lady was Ruan Shengyu's rival.
...
In these days, Jin Chengyan was attracting more attention than a celebrity.
She had to find him and clarify everything.
“Miss Qiao, the CEO is currently unavailable.”
“I’ll wait for him. There are some things that need to be clarified.” Qiao Nuo glanced at the closed office door of the CEO.
She was aware that her willingness to soften her stance played a significant role in her visit. She didn’t want Jin Chengyan to misunderstand her intentions, whether it was for her father, for Qiao Chen, or for herself.
“Well… alright then.” Alice said little and returned to her tasks.
There were several other secretaries and assistants in the CEO's office. When Qiao Nuo arrived, they only glanced at her briefly before returning to their work; who would dare gossip about their boss?
“Miss Qiao, please have a seat here and wait for a moment. The young master’s meeting with Yan San should conclude soon,” A Shan suggested, gesturing for Qiao Nuo to sit on the sofa outside the office.
“Thank you,” Qiao Nuo replied gratefully to A Shan.
As she waited outside, Qiao Nuo recalled the recording Jin Chengyan had played for her that day. It featured her discussing matters with colleagues in the restroom. She had been reluctant to agree with what one of them said but had done so just to end the conversation quickly, not realizing it would be overheard by someone with ulterior motives.
While lost in thought about this incident, Qiao Nuo suddenly felt curious about how much Jin Chengyan truly cared for Ruan Shengyu. If this matter was indeed orchestrated by her, how would Jin Chengyan react?
“Bang—”
“Bang—”
Two loud noises erupted from within the CEO's office, causing all the secretaries and assistants outside to look toward the door. A Shan quickly approached the office entrance, ready to knock, but ultimately held back.
Moments later, the office door swung open, and someone stepped out.
But it wasn’t Jin Chengyan.
It was him—the man who had mistakenly gone on a blind date with someone else, Yan Beiting.
Yan Beiting had a hint of blood at the corner of his mouth, which he casually wiped away with the back of his hand.
He saw A Shan and reached out to pat his shoulder. "It's been years since we last met, your young master has really improved his skills!"
A Shan, feeling a surge of anger, shrugged off his hand.
"Oh, just like your young master, with such a temper." Yan Beiting paid no mind to A Shan's rudeness and didn't care about the injury on his face as he swaggered toward the elevator.
Just as he was about to step forward, he caught sight of Qiao Nuo.
He halted, glanced toward the president's office, then looked back at Qiao Nuo. Suddenly, he stepped forward and, catching her off guard, grabbed her wrist and pulled her away.
"Third Young Master—" A Shan tried to call out to Yan Beiting, but it was already too late. "Miss Qiao Nuo—"
Neither of them managed to stop him; Yan Beiting had already taken Qiao Nuo into the elevator.
Those coming out of the office heard A Shan call out to Qiao Nuo. When they turned to look at the elevator, all they saw was Qiao Nuo's face disappearing behind the elevator doors.
