“Slap—” Ruan Shengyu struck Ni Yue across the face. This was the first time she had seen Ni Yue since the incident at the hotel.
“Ruan Shengyu, you—” Ni Yue knew Ruan Shengyu would be angry, but she never expected her to slap her so directly.
“I said we could cooperate, but that doesn’t mean you can treat me like a fool! If it weren’t for my manager showing up in time that day, my reputation would have been tarnished by them! Don’t tell me this was part of your plan too!” They had originally agreed that it would only involve the two men confronting Qiao Nuo.
Little did she know, Ni Yue had also tampered with her drink.
And all of this was orchestrated by Ni Yue!
Ni Yue covered her face. “I didn’t intend for those two to actually hurt you. In the end, you came out unscathed, didn’t you? But look at it now; Jin Shao is clearly no longer with Qiao Nuo. He even retaliated against her!”
Ruan Shengyu thought for a moment. Her sources had indeed informed her that Jin Chengyan hadn’t contacted Qiao Nuo in recent days.
“I know Jin Shao likes you. Whether Qiao Nuo is innocent or not has nothing to do with him. But you are different; you are someone he cares about. If Qiao Nuo tries to frame you, Jin Shao will definitely make her pay dearly.” Ni Yue understood how to manipulate emotions.
With that said, Ruan Shengyu began to see the logic in her words.
She naturally believed that in Jin Chengyan’s heart, there was only her. If she were harmed, those who caused her harm would not end well.
“Don’t worry, I’ve arranged everything for what comes next. Qiao Nuo won’t be able to escape.” Ni Yue said with a cold smile.
Ruan Shengyu remained silent, which was taken as agreement.
Ni Yue left, and Xu Lin looked at Ruan Shengyu with some concern, advising, “Ruan Shengyu, Ni Yue is not a good person. We don’t need to cooperate with her. No matter what, don’t overthink it.”
However, Ruan Shengyu seemed to ignore the warning and simply said, “I know you were sent by A Yan. I didn’t hide anything from you earlier. If you want to tell him about this, I won’t stop you.”
“Of course not!” Xu Lin exclaimed in shock, immediately denying it.
Just as her words fell, the doorbell rang. Ruan Shengyu thought it was Ni Yue returning.
When Xu Lin opened the door, she was surprised to find Jin Chengyan standing there, and her expression became even more awkward.
“Jin Shao is here; I’ll take my leave now…” Xu Lin quickly grabbed her bag and left without daring to linger.
Jin Chengyan watched Xu Lin leave in confusion and frowned as he stepped inside.
“What’s going on…” Ruan Shengyu began to speak but then saw Jin Chengyan and swallowed her words. “Didn’t you say you weren’t coming?”
She pouted and sat cross-legged on the sofa, ignoring Jin Chengyan.
Jin Chengyan took off his suit jacket and walked toward Ruan Shengyu, seemingly planning to stay for a while.
“Have you eaten dinner? What do you want to eat? I can make it for you.”
"I wouldn't dare trouble Jin Shao to cook."
Jin Chengyan rubbed his temples and sat beside Ruan Shengyu, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "Alright, don't be angry. I'm here to apologize, isn't that enough?"
Ruan Shengyu shifted away from him. "I can't accept that. Jin Shao is of noble status; apologizing to someone like me, a third-rate star, is truly embarrassing. You should hurry and accompany your first-tier celebrity or that little internet influencer, lest they become displeased."
Jin Chengyan chuckled. "I have no intention of letting that film see the light of day after it's finished. After all, she went against us, Ruan Shengyu. As for that little influencer, I should at least let my parents know I have someone by my side to prevent them from setting me up on blind dates."
Ruan Shengyu remained skeptical.
Jin Chengyan seemed to have no other choice. Leaning back on the sofa, he said, "If I continue being single, I might end up like Yan San, forced into blind dates by his grandfather."
Ruan Shengyu froze for a moment.
