Qiao Nuo did not sleep well throughout the night and woke up early in the morning. She tiptoed out of her room, hoping to leave before Jin Chengyan got up.
To her surprise, she found Jin Chengyan collapsed at the door, his brow slightly furrowed.
Qiao Nuo initially intended to step around him and leave, but noticing his troubled expression, she crouched down and gently patted his shoulder.
“Jin Chengyan, get up and go back to bed,” she said. Seeing his face slightly flushed, she instinctively reached out to touch his cheek—it was burning hot.
Jin Chengyan frowned and grasped Qiao Nuo's hand that rested on his face.
Startled, Qiao Nuo feared he might react like he did the previous night and quickly pulled her hand away from his grip.
“Cough, cough... I feel terrible...” Jin Chengyan's voice was hoarse as he spoke. Qiao Nuo had just felt his forehead; it was indeed very hot.
Now, as he held her hand, the heat radiating from him was alarming.
It seemed he had caught a chill from sleeping here last night.
“Who told you to sleep here?” Qiao Nuo muttered softly, setting down her bag. She couldn't leave Jin Chengyan alone like this; if he had a fever, no one would know.
At that moment, Jin Chengyan was surprisingly compliant. Realizing someone was there to help him up, he leaned against Qiao Nuo but didn’t put all his weight on her.
"I'll take you back to your room first, and then I'll have A Shan find a doctor for you. I know you're not one to go to the hospital," Qiao Nuo said as she draped Jin Chengyan's arm over her shoulder, using all her strength to help him up.
Step by step, she guided him upstairs and laid him down on the bed.
Immediately, she picked up the phone in Jin Chengyan's room and called A Shan, informing him that Jin Chengyan was unwell. A Shan assured her that a doctor would be on the way shortly.
After completing these tasks, Qiao Nuo felt that it was about time for her to step back.
However, Jin Chengyan was still wearing the same clothes from yesterday, and the mingling scents of smoke and alcohol clung to him. Lying on the bed, he kept tugging at his shirt, looking truly uncomfortable.
Taking a deep breath, she told herself that she had had enough of this situation. She rolled up her sleeves and approached Jin Chengyan to help him out of his clothes.
"Cough cough..." Jin Chengyan coughed violently, his face turning even redder from the effort.
Qiao Nuo could only quicken her movements, helping him out of his shirt and... his pants.
She thought to herself that since she had already seen him completely before—and not just once—there was really no reason to feel embarrassed about undressing him now.
But seeing Jin Chengyan's flawless physique up close made her heart race and cheeks flush with heat.
Qiao Nuo had no choice but to avert her gaze, pulling the blanket over Jin Chengyan's body to cover him.
Then she went to the bathroom to fetch a warm towel, using it to gently wipe his face... and his body.
The more she wiped, the redder Qiao Nuo felt her face. This was truly the first time she had been so close to a man and taken care of him like this.
At that moment, Jin Chengyan opened his eyes. In his dazed state, he saw someone in front of him.
“Qiao Nuo…” Jin Chengyan frowned slightly, feeling a throbbing pain in his head, unable to recall what had happened.
Qiao Nuo immediately stood up straight, hiding the towel she had been using to wipe his body behind her. Fortunately, he did not mistake her for someone else this time.
“It’s me. You were sick, so I changed your clothes and called A Shan. The doctor will be here soon,” Qiao Nuo explained honestly.
Jin Chengyan nodded slightly. The only thing he could remember was that he had been at Ruan Shengyu's place yesterday. They had started discussing Yan Beiting, and then things had ended on a sour note. How he ended up at the bar to drown his sorrows and how he got back here was all a blur to him.
