Qiao Chen eventually came out of the hospital room. When Qiao Nuo saw his red eyes, she knew he must have cried recently.
Just as Qiao Nuo was about to say it was okay and that he still had his sister, Qiao Chen suddenly fainted in front of her!
The greatest advantage of fainting in a hospital is that a doctor will come to check on you immediately.
Huo Yawen informed Qiao Nuo that Qiao Chen had fainted simply because he was too upset and possibly exhausted from recent events. He just needed to rest.
With that, Qiao Nuo felt relieved and sat outside the hospital room, waiting for Qiao Chen to wake up.
Huo Yawen handed her a cup of hot water. "I added some honey. Drink this; you look unwell."
Qiao Nuo took the cup. "Thank you." She cradled the glass, feeling the warmth seep into her palms.
She glanced around but didn’t see that familiar figure.
He must have left. After all, this wasn’t his concern; bringing her here was already a kind deed.
She thought she had seen Yan Beiting earlier, but given the terrible situation, she had overlooked him. Now, she couldn’t spot him again.
"Are you looking for that person from earlier?" Huo Yawen asked, sitting next to Qiao Nuo with one seat between them.
Qiao Nuo didn’t nod but also didn’t deny it. She didn’t want Huo Yawen to know about her relationship with Jin Chengyan; she preferred to remain in Huo Yawen's eyes as the innocent and lovely little sister.
Seeing that Qiao Nuo wasn’t keen on discussing the topic, Huo Yawen dropped it.
"I'll take care of your uncle's affairs. It’s not convenient for a girl like you to handle these things." He meant to say that with his help, she wouldn’t be so burdened.
“No need, it’s not inconvenient to deal with my father’s matters. This is the last thing I can do for him.”
“Qiao Nuo, you don’t have to be polite with me.”
Qiao Nuo smiled slightly, looking at Huo Yawen. “Wen Ge, of course I won’t be polite. It’s just that I really want to handle this myself. He is my father, and I don’t want to have any regrets.”
Huo Yawen was momentarily taken aback when he heard the words “Wen Ge.”
Since their reunion, Qiao Nuo had not called him that, perhaps because they both had grown up and had not seen each other for so long that it felt a bit distant.
However, Huo Yawen could still clearly feel that their relationship was not as intimate as before; it might only be a friendship now.
He had always wanted to do something to make their relationship closer, but Qiao Nuo was always in a hurry, and he was busy with work.
Until this moment, when Qiao Nuo called him “Wen Ge” again, it warmed his heart.
“Alright, don’t overexert yourself. If you need any help, just let me know.” Huo Yawen reached out and patted Qiao Nuo on the head, just like when they were kids and she received praise; he would pat her head as a form of encouragement.
Some connections remain unchanged even after so many years.
While Qiao Chen was in a deep sleep, Qiao Nuo shared many stories with Huo Yawen—how the Qiao family came to be, how their mother left, and how mischievous Qiao Chen was as a child…
Later, Huo Yawen was called away by the operating room phone, and Qiao Nuo finally let out a sigh of relief as she sat back down.
She felt someone sit next to her, but she was too tired to look and see who it was.
“Qiao Nuo, if you feel tired, you don’t have to say anything. No one will blame you now.”
Jin Chengyan's voice.
Qiao Nuo, with her eyes closed, did not respond, but she was surprised that Jin Chengyan knew she was talking to Huo Yawen and felt really tired.
She just didn't want to worry anyone.
Jin Chengyan reached out and rested Qiao Nuo's head on his shoulder.
"Sleep for a while."
She thought he had left, but he hadn't.
She thought she needed to reassure him that she was fine, but he told her not to force herself.
Jin Chengyan, what kind of man are you?
