On the way back, Xi Yisheng drove his own car while Qiao Nuo and Qiao Chen shared a ride.
Qiao Chen knew that this was an unavoidable conversation, so when his sister insisted on taking her own car, he didn’t hesitate at all.
From the moment they got in the car, the atmosphere inside was tense. Qiao Nuo’s expression was grim, as if she were struggling with something.
Taking a deep breath, Qiao Chen reached out to turn on the car's stereo, but he didn’t realize that Jin Mengxi had left a CD in there. The loud sound of Western rock music filled the car, causing Qiao Chen to furrow his brow immediately.
Jin Mengxi was just that kind of girl; despite her demure appearance, she was quite rebellious, full of mischievous ideas, and extremely stubborn.
If it weren’t for her being the fifth miss of the Jin Family, Qiao Chen probably would never have had any involvement with someone like her in his lifetime.
“Qiao Chen, did you know? The little darling's bone marrow was taken from Jin Chengyan.”
A jolt ran through Qiao Chen; he felt his grip on the steering wheel falter for a moment.
However, he didn’t let any emotions show on his face.
“Oh,” he replied flatly, refocusing on driving.
“Qiao Chen, maybe I gave you some wrong signals that made you think I wanted to take revenge on the Jin Family. It’s true that during my initial time back in the country, or even before that, I did want to get back at Jin Chengyan. I wanted him to feel what I had endured, even to the point of making him wish he were dead.” Reflecting on those past moments made Qiao Nuo realize how dark her thoughts had been during that time.
But how did things change?
“However, Qiao Chen, I’ve moved past that. From now on, I won’t have any relationship with Jin Chengyan. All his wrongdoings vanished the moment he saved the little darling. From now on, he is him and we are us.” After saying so much, Qiao Nuo still wanted to shift the focus back onto Jin Mengxi. “Sister can see that Jin Mengxi really likes you. But if you don’t like her, when the time comes for me to apologize on your behalf, no matter how they treat you or how they treat our Qiao Family, we can only accept it. Jin Mengxi is the real victim in this situation.”
“Sis, this is between me and Jin Mengxi; you shouldn’t interfere.” Qiao Chen suddenly spoke up, his tone somewhat stiff. “Jin Chengyan saving the little darling was his own decision; it was his way of trying to make amends with you. That doesn’t equate to the harm he caused you. If everyone who hurt you came back to make amends, how many times could you endure such pain? Sis, I don’t agree with your perspective.”
This was the first time Qiao Chen had clearly contradicted Qiao Nuo, leaving her momentarily taken aback.
But what was wrong with what Qiao Chen said? Harm and atonement could not be equated.
Qiao Chen had grown up, and what could Qiao Nuo do to dictate his life?
"I just don’t want you to regret it. A few years from now, will you be able to meet someone who loves you like she does? It’s not guaranteed. By the time you realize your mistake and want to win her back, she might not be waiting for you anymore." The current situation between Qiao Chen and Jin Mengxi reminded Qiao Nuo of her past with Jin Chengyan.
But what she didn’t know was whether Jin Mengxi felt for Qiao Chen as deeply as she had felt for Jin Chengyan.
If she did, Qiao Nuo would fully believe that Jin Mengxi would make the same choice as freedom.
However, she didn’t like this way of revenge, especially when it involved using emotions to hurt one another.
When they arrived at the Qiao Family residence, Qiao Chen didn’t get out of the car. He simply said he had other matters to attend to and drove away.
Xi Yisheng got out of the car and watched as Qiao Nuo stared at the departing vehicle.
"You’ve had a long day. Rest well; I’ll take care of the little one."
Qiao Nuo turned around to look at Xi Yisheng, whose smile could melt glaciers—warm and beautiful.
"Thank you, Yi Sheng." Without Xi Yisheng, Qiao Nuo truly didn’t know how she would have gotten through today.
"If we can’t be husband and wife, we can still be friends." Xi Yisheng always felt he could move Qiao Nuo, but in the end, he only moved himself.
The more he said this, the more uncomfortable Qiao Nuo felt.
"I’m glad to have a friend like you, but today, let me take care of the little one myself. You just got here; you need to rest."
Xi Yisheng understood that Qiao Nuo was rejecting him. He didn’t say much more, nodded, and got into his own car before leaving.
Qiao Nuo dragged her weary body into the villa. The nanny taking care of Qiao Kawai informed her that the little one had eaten and fallen asleep.
She was recovering well; after the surgery, there had been no signs of rejection, and she had been discharged just a couple of days ago.
Once everything here was settled, Qiao Nuo wanted to take Qiao Kawai abroad. She felt that this place was not suitable for her and Qiao Kawai to live in. If possible, she also wanted to take Qiao Chen with them.
...
“Jin Shao, this is all your marital property. However... it was actually your wife who cheated first, and you witnessed it firsthand...”
Jin Chengyan suddenly looked up, his sharp gaze directed at Sun Lawyer.
Hearing the word "cheating" come from someone else's mouth was so ironic, so jarring.
Sun Lawyer quickly changed his tone. It was indeed strange; clearly, it was Jin Shaonai nai who had cheated first, yet Jin Shao still bore no grudges and was willing to divide the property with his wife.
“You own five villas, with liquid assets of fifty million. There are also some stocks and funds, totaling up to one billion. According to divorce laws, all of this must be split evenly with your ex-wife.”
“Hmm.” Jin Chengyan replied lightly.
These were his assets; how he chose to handle them had nothing to do with the Jin Family. If he could not ensure her peace for a lifetime, he could only compensate her financially.
When they got married, he did it for someone else while she did it for money. Now that they were divorcing, shouldn’t he fulfill his obligations?
“Alright, if you agree, I will take this for notarization right away. You just need to sign here.”
Jin Chengyan didn’t look at the contents of the document; he knew that even a glance would make him feel uncomfortable. He simply signed his name at the end of the document.
A Shan watched silently throughout the entire process without saying a word.
After the lawyer left, Jin Chengyan sat in the chair for a long time, doing nothing and saying nothing.
Because the marriage he had guarded for four years ultimately came to an end at this moment.
Knock knock knock… The office door was knocked on. Despite having informed those outside not to disturb him at this time, they still didn’t listen.
A Shan walked over to open the door, intending to scold someone, but instead found Yu Xin and Yun Xin standing outside.
After considering Jin Chengyan inside, A Shan ultimately blocked the doorway.
"Godmother, Miss Yun Xin, A Yan is feeling a bit unwell. Perhaps you can come back another time?"
"What's wrong with him? If he's unwell, why isn't he at the hospital?" Upon hearing this, Yu Xin was even more determined to go in and check on him.
A Shan frowned, unable to stop Yu Xin and Yun Xin, and could only let them enter.
"A Yan, where do you feel unwell?" Yu Xin stepped inside and saw her son sitting with his back to the door, gazing out at the view of Qin Cheng through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Hearing the voice, Jin Chengyan stood up from his chair but was met with Yun Xin's presence, which only made his headache worse.
"It's just a slight headache; it's nothing serious." Jin Chengyan's complexion was indeed a bit off, especially after dealing with his divorce earlier.
"As long as it's nothing serious. Yun Xin knows your father isn't well and specifically wanted to see you. I have other matters to attend to, so I let her come over." Yu Xin was quite pleased with this Yun Xin person; right after his divorce, she had sent someone over.
She didn’t even consider the current situation—Jin Mengxi's issues had just been suppressed, and Jin's legal troubles were widely known.
He certainly wasn't in the mood for romance right now.
"Let A Shan take her; I have a lot of work at the company." Jin Chengyan directly refused, showing no regard for Yu Xin's feelings.
"It's fine; I can wait for you to finish work." Yun Xin spoke softly. Although her directness didn't quite fit the image of a pampered young lady, it resonated well with Yu Xin.
"See? Yun Xin is so understanding! You should hurry up and finish your work so you can go home with her and check on your father."
With Yu Xin pushing this far, Jin Chengyan had no choice but to agree. He then focused on his work, pretending that Yun Xin didn’t exist.
He thought that such a spoiled young lady would surely throw a tantrum and leave after waiting for an hour. However, when Jin Chengyan came out of his office to attend a meeting, he unexpectedly found her chatting happily with several secretarial assistants from the president's office.
He noticed the snacks and coffee on their desk and couldn't help but frown.
With that frown, everyone in the president's office knew that Jin Chengyan was angry, so they quickly abandoned Yun Xin and returned to their work.
Jin Chengyan cast a glance at Yun Xin before walking into his office without looking back.
The meeting extended until seven in the evening. Jin Chengyan went straight from the conference room downstairs, forgetting that Yun Xin was still upstairs.
Just as he was about to get into his car, Yun Xin rushed out from inside. Seeing that Jin Chengyan was still there, she let out a sigh of relief.
"Fortunately, I caught up with you. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to see Jin Uncle today..." Before Yun Xin could finish her sentence, she accidentally stepped on a raised part of the carpet and fell toward Jin Chengyan.
He reached out to steady her out of courtesy.
At that moment, a sound echoed as someone in the shadows recorded the scene.
